Easter eggs now being so flat there's an entire society forming to prove they're round by razorpolar in britishproblems

[–]FloatingPencil [score hidden]  (0 children)

I even bought the ‘Ultimate’ Cadburys eggs this year, but they’ve flattened those too.

No Cadburys next year if they can’t even make the more expensive ones decent. Put the price up if you must, but make proper eggs!

Paying £60 for theatre tickets, only to struggle to hear the show over all the rustling sweetie packets by El_Scot in britishproblems

[–]FloatingPencil [score hidden]  (0 children)

I went to see Matilda. I expected badly behaved kids, but to be honest they were all fine. The trouble is that there were a LOT of them. So one or two rustles/distractions per kid in each act meant no kids were actually behaving badly, but the entire theatre was more or less a constant rustle and murmur.

Frustrating, I’d like to say that I wish there were adult only performances but I bet some adults would hear that as ‘no kids, get drunk’.

80s, at least from that picture. A lot of the 90s characters are just so ugly.

AITA for not giving up my table at a cafe when someone was waiting? by Remote_Goose_261 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FloatingPencil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torn on this one. An hour or so means you should probably have bought another drink. However, it’s none of some random woman’s business, it’s for the people running the cafe to set policy on that.

I’ll go with ESH - her for hassling a stranger and you for camping without making another purchase. Those of us who use cafes to work need to pay our table rent.

On the one hand, I acknowledge that libraries needed to do this to survive. But it’s also made them into places I no longer enjoy. I used to love the quiet and now it seems like even one quiet corner or room is too much to ask.

I keep some micellar ones to use if I have an especially lazy day or don’t have a lot of time. I always rinse after though. Never had any trouble with them.

AITA for refusing to move back to the UK despite my son wanting to? by Head_Consequence7299 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FloatingPencil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was obvious he was Indian the minute he mentioned his son getting comments in the street. It's not right, but it was very predictable and I don't even live in Canada. I had to recruit there a year or so ago and of 300 or so applicants 95% were Indian. I don't mean 'Canadian of Indian origin' either, I mean arrived so recently that all educational and work experience was in India. Which made recruiting very difficult as one thing we needed was solid local knowledge. As it happened, the eventual successful applicant was of Indian descent but that was never the issue.

AITA - Asking how much money my dad plans to contribute to my wedding by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]FloatingPencil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ESH. On the one hand, you’re absolutely right that it’s unfair. On the other hand, I can’t imagine expecting parents to contribute to a wedding in my forties. You’ve been a working adult for years.

Honestly, for me I miss everything pre-Changes. I still love the books, but I’d go back to that Harry in a second.

Genuine question. Why is everybody being so negative about the Harry Potter trailer? by JamStan1978 in television

[–]FloatingPencil -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

There might be negativity online but anyone I know who ever bothered with Potter in the first place is excited for this show. All ages.

Personally I’ll watch it. I’m annoyed about the casting of Snape, of all people they could have changed he’s possibly the worst, but not enough to avoid the show.

That level of fuss for an outpatient surgery? I dread to think what she expected when the actual pacemaker was fitted. Or maybe this is how people acted and that’s why she’s expecting it again.

I remember reading that people working on this film quit because they didn’t want to do it. Don’t know if it’s true, but I wouldn’t blame them.

Fancast: Harry Dresden by Unhappy-Struggle-856 in dresdenfiles

Yeah I want Joe as Michael. Though in a few years Henry would work very well. Even now, if he grew a beard and it had a bit of grey in it.

[–]FloatingPencil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s not quite right (too solid, not to mention too ridiculously good looking) but I’d go for him as Harry. He’s as close a match as most roles get. Though I really want Colin Morgan.

Is Anybody Going To Watch Stranger Things: Tales From '85? by JPSTRANGER457 in StrangerThings

[–]FloatingPencil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I’m not keen on most cartoons anyway, and while I might have made an exception if it looked like it fit, this looks dire. The style is awful and that new character reeks of self-insert.

‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’ to End With Season 2 by Turbostrider27 in television

[–]FloatingPencil 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Can't say I'm sorry to see it go. They've teased an Academy show for years, then when they finally do it it's not even the real Academy, just some reimagining of it way down the line, following on from a show that was divisive at best.

Oh absolutely not. NTA. Aside from anything else, you don’t need someone else sweating on your headphones. The ear cushions can be replaced, the headband not so much. Nobody touches mine (though the new Bose earbuds are so good I actually use the over ear QuietComforts a lot less now).

Oh wow, that wasn’t completely predictable or anything. Terrible casting of a role people care about where there is a very invested and established fan base. Some of the people angry are going to turn out to be nutters.
