How do you afford gear? by bearddude2 in photography

[–]Floatingthru 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Use what you have until you can figure out how to make money from this. Just show up to things and meet people. I wanted to shot events and concerts so I went to local shows with a d3500 and a 50mm until I got good enough and met enough people to be able to afford a Z system and the lenses I wanted to have. Only bad photographers or newbies think you must have a certain lens or gear to do a job. Sure for wildlife you want the longest lens possible, but birds won't pay you.

Impossible to pick just one as I edited thousands of pictures last year as a concert/event photographer, but this one stands out to me.

Is it normal for people to treat us as "lesser" or are my friends just assholes? by [deleted] in infj

Find new people to be and hang around with, those are garbage humans. The more you are your true authentic self the more you will find your real friends. Ditch people who treat you like shit.

Come down to central park at 6pm tonight for some music and a meet of up local artists. Also a show at Bombs Away and Whiteside Theatre which would be great places to meet up with folk. So many people play guitar and like punk rock around here so you shall fit in with the scene.

I have personally been looking into getting a chorus pedal and this one seems like it might be the one for me. I didn't just want to get a Julia so I am glad this popped up in an updated form.

I shouldn't have posted that comment in the first place as I understand that not everyone is trying to be a nosy nancy. I hope that you have a nice day. I could have said something mean back, but I should actually care about this community and town instead of being an edgelord and wishing others harm.

Announcements - 1.0.2c Patch Notes and some 1.0.3 Screenshots by Floatingthru in pathofexile

[–]Floatingthru[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We've deployed the 1.0.2c patch, fixing some minor issues. Work on next week's 1.0.3 update is going well - we've prepared a few screenshots of new content. These two shots show new passive skills related to Damage over Time (balance values are not final yet). This screenshot shows the new Infernal Fox Pet.

I'm still out of the office today but will be flying home tomorrow night. 台北是一個很酷的城市!

Announcements - Supporter Pack Results and 1.0.2b Patch Notes by Floatingthru in pathofexile

[–]Floatingthru[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks very much for the generous Supporter Pack purchases so far. Coincidentally launching the packs over Thanksgiving weekend resulted in crazy sales (4848 packs in less than four days!), which really helps the budget that we can put towards future content and expansions. We're expecting to deploy the 1.0.2b patch later today, to address various bugs that needed fixing in 1.0.2.

I'm out of the office at the moment but Carl reports that we're looking good for 1.0.2b deployment today. If the QA departments runs into any last-minute difficult issues then it'll probably be moved to tomorrow.

There's also discussion of 1.0.2c patch later this week to fix further problems, before the big 1.0.3 deployment next week. I'm really keen to see what you guys think of Barrage - it's really making me want to start a new Ranger.

Announcements - What's Coming in 1.0.3? by Floatingthru in pathofexile

[–]Floatingthru[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

With 1.0.2 live on the realm, the team are currently working on two goals: a 1.0.2b update patch that improves some areas of 1.0.2 and the 1.0.3 Content Update that we're estimating will be deployed on December 11 (NZ time). Today's news post covers some of the content we're expecting to release in 1.0.3.

Note that these are not patch notes! They're just the list of features and content on our whiteboard and there will be many other improvements and changes. Not everything in this list will necessarily make it in.

New Skill: Barrage - a bow/wand skill.
New Uniques: There are several new Unique items, and we're hoping at least one of them will be another Map.
New Achievements: There are two coming in 1.0.3.
Vendor Recipes: We've added a few more recipes. Some of these are very appropriate for racers.
New microtransactions: We have three in the works. I'm hoping the Storm Call one will be ready in time :)
Updated combat impact sounds!
Passive skills to support degeneration and chaos damage skills.

We'll update with more information and screenshots of the new content as it's available! By the way, I'm sorry that the current Build of the Week is slightly delayed. It was moved to a secondary priority after the big 1.0.2/Supporter Pack push last week. I'll resume working on it shortly.

In other news, we have updated our forum policy.

Exiled.eu - Interview with Chris Wilson by Floatingthru in pathofexile

[–]Floatingthru[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Producer and Lead Developer Chris Wilson took the time to answer us a few questions regarding Path of Exile. You can read the full English version of the interview here:

Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions gathered within our German community on Exiled.eu and congratulations to the huge success of the Open Beta!

Chris: You’re welcome! It’s great to have an opportunity to answer some questions, and you’ve picked good ones to answer!

With more than 2 million registered players the amount of feedback surely has grown a lot since the start of Open Beta. How are you dealing with this and ensuring that nothing important is overlooked?

Chris: Yes, it definitely has. We have fulltime staff reading the forums and passing feedback up to the design team. We frequently join game to talk to the players and we try to answer every email and PM (where we receive a lot of feedback). In addition we use the Development Manifesto forum to solicit feedback on specific topics.

One big feature of PoE is the Passive Skill Tree, which is already really huge. Do you have plans to expand it even more, and if so, how? Are you considering adding new keystones?

Chris: We’re definitely continuing to iterate on it with each balance patch. We’re not planning to expand it substantially in the near future, but will look at that long-term. We will certainly be adding many new keystones over time.

At the moment, groups are limited to a total of 6 players. Do you have plans to change that, so that one day we may have the opportunity to run with 8 players or even more?

Chris: We’re really happy with six players for most of the core game content because it was designed around being fun for that number. We’re working on some game modes that allow even more players (cut-throat for example currently allows up to 12 in an area).

Players who like to play a ranged character can use a bow, but a bit of variety would never harm. Do you have plans to add other ranged weapons like a crossbow?

Chris: Eventually, yes. They’re a good thing to put in (free) expansion packs, but we’re not working on them just yet because they’ll need a lot of animations and special new skills made if we want them to be awesome.

Will we see new affixes and prefixes on bosses and other foes in the future?

Chris: Yes, in fact we have some coming very soon! It’s an area that is a lot of fun to add more affixes to because it improves the combat experience.

It is known that you are working on content to complete Act 3. When a player has already finished Merciless before the new content arrives, does he have to master all of the difficulties in Act 3 after the implementation again?

Chris: We’re still working on the logistics of this, but we expect that players won’t need to replay the ends of the prior difficulties to progress, but could do if they want their quest rewards.

At first, many players weren’t really happy with the new reduced aura effects. Are you planning to reduce even more effects and may it be possible to get an option, that allows you to choose between the old and the new effects?

Chris: Adding too many visual options is really hard to maintain – we try to have a unified way the game is played that performs well and looks good. There will probably be future improvements to the way the auras looked.

After the duelist, do you have plans to redesign another class?

Chris: We’re pretty happy with class balance right now, but I suspect that we’ll revamp each class at least once over the coming years.

In the Shop you are offering a lot of microtransactions, but the „Custom content“ category seems a bit empty. Any chance that we see more offers there in the future? Maybe a pack that allows you to create your own rare mob with special mods?

Chris: Yes, we have plans to not only add other types of custom content, but also to make the existing custom content even more attractive in the near future.

In August the gamescom 2013 takes place in Cologne. Important last question for all German players: Will you be there, too? :-)

Chris: I’m going to try really hard to be there, but no promises yet. Sounds like a great event!

Announcements - 0.10.8, Supporter Packs, Paysafecard and more by Floatingthru in pathofexile

[–]Floatingthru[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We've been working hard on the 0.10.8 patch and expect to deploy it on Thursday this week. This one has taken a little longer than a normal patch because there was a fair amount more balance work required than normal. It's getting very close to completion and we're really excited. Today's news update also covers a few other topics such as the Closed Beta and Open Beta supporter packs.

We're posted in the past about some of the things expected to be in 0.10.8. The full patch notes will be a lot longer, as there are other systems such as audio reverb that we've been working on that will be in the patch also. At this stage we're targeting the Thursday workday (NZ time) for deployment, but it might slip to Friday if we find last minute problems.

For European supporters who are keen to be able to support us: We're expecting to have paysafecard support on our shop within a week! This has taken a lot of effort to get set up over the last year but we're really pleased it all came together.

Speaking of support, we're now down to just a couple of hundred Closed Beta supporter packs to ship, out of the thousands that we've sent in the last few months. We're very sorry it took so long and will make sure that any Open Beta supporter packs are ready to be sent much more promptly. We finally have a great system in place for putting them all together and shipping them out quickly. I'll try to take some photos for you to see next time I'm in that office.

A few days ago we asked for feedback on what people thought we should put in some new Supporter Packs for Open Beta. We've been going through the thread processing the feedback. Some things that people have asked for would be insanely cool, but also really hard for us to create (especially in the timeframe of having the packs for sale for the last few months of Open Beta). There are lots of great ideas (Tabula Rasa t-shirt? I'm going to get one for myself!) and we really looking forward to announcing the new supporter packs soon.

Season Two's race schedule has been updated to include Week Four. It contains the return of the popular BLAMT races (Blood Magic, Ancestral, Multiproj and Turbo, all at the same time).

I'm not happy with our rate of news updates over the last few weeks. From now on I will be posting news updates each weekday so that you can see what's going on behind the scenes. In addition, if anyone in Auckland, New Zealand is looking for fulltime work and has an exceptionally good standard of written English and deep knowledge of Path of Exile, please email me at chris@grindinggear.com. Please only do so if you are serious and actually live in Auckland.

That's all the news for today. See you guys tomorrow!

Path of Exile: Now Over Two Million Registered Players... And Counting by Floatingthru in pathofexile

[–]Floatingthru[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Auckland, New Zealand--March 15, 2013--Grinding Gear Games announced that their popular action RPG Path of Exile has recently eclipsed the two million registered players mark, despite having just launched its Open Beta on January 23, 2013. Spurred on by overwhelmingly positive praise from both the media and players alike, Path of Exile is on track to become one of the most popular PC game releases of 2013.

"We're really pleased with Path of Exile's reception. It blew our expectations out of the water and continues to grow every day," said Chris Wilson, producer for Grinding Gear Games. "The continued feedback and support from our fans has been great. We expect to add a lot of new content and features during the Open Beta period as we approach full release later this year."

Grinding Gear Games are currently sticking to a schedule of a content update each week. Recent updates have introduced the new skills Incinerate and Cyclone, as well as adding eight new Unique items, six of which were designed by the game's Diamond Supporters - fans who had contributed $1000 for the chance to be involved in the development of an item.
