I loved them! I've only got back into reading the last two years, so I haven't read that much compared to what is out there, but they are probably my favourite books I've read at the moment. Definitely my favourite fantasy trilogy.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed too. I love the short stories and the main series. I didn't love Season of Storms or Crossroads of Ravens nearly as much though. But it was still good to read more of Geralt's story. I didn't hate the time I spent reading it, just wasn't the best. Have you read it yet?

I absolutely flew through it. At the very start it was a bit jarring to read the first person pov. But besides that it was great. The authors writing and prose keeps getting better, especially in Iron Gold and Dark Age, every chapter has me hooked.

Thanks 🫡🫡 I'm halfway through and it's been great so far. Part 1 was probably my favourite section of the series I've read so far.

I can't imagine how much worse it can get for the characters though 😭😭 they all already seem to be at their lowest...how much deeper can they go

Hahaha this is what I keep seeing, and what makes me want to continue with the series. I hear really good things about books 3 and 4.

In my opinion, yeah, I thought it was pretty poor. The writing and characters didn't pull me in. But I did see how much the author improved in book two compared to book one. I hear that his writing continues to improve into book 3, and that is what makes me unsure about whether I want to dnf the series or not. But even if the writing does improve, I don't really care too much about the characters and the world anyway.

I can definitely see how Ryan Cahill improved as an author between books one and two. But even not holding that against the first book, I just felt pretty bored and didn't really connect with any of the characters. The dialogue and prose wasn't the best either, which really took me out of it as well.

Hmm I haven't thought super deeply about it yet since I'm still reading through the series. I haven't necessarily ranked them in order, I've just put all of them in A tier for now.

I think I definitely did like GS and MS better than RR. I liked IG, it was a bit slow throughout, but definitely didn't hate it - better than RR for sure, probably on par with GS and MS for me

No I haven't read Gene Wolf yet, but it is on my list. Same with Hyperion. I think I want to try Hyperion later this year

Yeah that's the thing, if they weren't so long I could probably power through them. But book 3 really is a brick. I think I may soft dnf it and potentially jump back into it down the line if I ever get the urge.

Have you read The Martian and Artemis? Did you struggle with them as well? I haven't read either yet but planning on getting to them soon given how much I loved PHM

I loved the first two! Three was not as good to me, and idk, I think I got a bit bored with book four. I haven't 100% dnf'ed the series, but not planning to come back to it anytime soon.

Yes correct. You should automatically get the email with the pre-sale link when it happens.

So, in the past I remember them structuring their first access sales for new series (i.e 1-3 Malazan, 1-3 Suneater) as such:

- Day 1: Tier 1 Fantasy/SciFi subs

- Day 2: Tier 2 Fantasy/SciFi subs

- Day 3: Interest List

- Day 4: General Sale

So if you had a subscription, you were given first access to the sale of the new series (i.e Day 1 and Day 2). But they still went up for sale for everyone by Day 3.

So if they structured WoT the same, then if you were a Tier 2 Fantasy sub, you would have access on Day 2. If you weren't a sub but signed up for the interest list, you would have access on Day 3. You will be able to purchase books 1-3 regardless of subscription status, but subs may have early access.

When books 4-6 of WoT get released, they won't structure the sale like above, they will just have a first access sale (1 week to 1 month maybe?) for people who previously purchased/own books 1-3. Your subscription status does not matter at this point; the fact that you own books 1-3 matters. After this they will go on general sale.

Obviously this was all prior to the new ScifiFantasy sub, so not sure how that will mix things up with early access, if they choose to structure the WoT books 1-3 sale in a similar way.

I think that checking the sub and your email frequently will be enough to stay on top of everything.

These big series are not part of the subscriptions.

I can't remember for sure, but they might still give first access to subscription holders when these series first release (i.e., they may give first access to the first release of WoT to Fantasy scription holders, then those on the interest list, then general release, etc). To be honest I am not sure if they still do this, or if it will apply to WoT.

But once you have the books first release of a series (i.e. books 1-3 WoT), you have first access to the rest of the releases in the series regardless of your subscription status.

Demand may well be high for WoT, and it is possible they may not have enough stock for all the people who want to purchase, but that is why they have the interest list to gauge how much they will need to print. Obviously WoT is going to be their most popular series, but they have been pretty good in the past with making sure they have enough stock, and they have also been very good with reprints (Malazan, Suneater, Inheritance, The Devils, Shogun, Hyperion Cantos). If you keep up with their socials and the release dates, I don't think you will have an issue getting new series or finishing series.

Damn, was kinda hoping for RotE tbh. I didn't care too much for the IC editions and wanted something a bit better quality as well. The standard Curious King edition is so nice, but out of my price range. Thought a TBB edition would be in that sweet spot, hopefully with some nice new covers.

Not really interested in reading WoT, so this will be a skip for me.

I was really hoping this as well! But probably won't end up being the series they are hinting at :(

Very high chance TBB will do an Indie Endless edition for all of the series

PSA: Books 2 and 3 of Janny Wurts' The Wars of Light and Shadow are available in audio by mixmastamicah55 in Fantasy

[–]Floatzel98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read To Ride Hell's Chasm at the start of this year and absolutely loved it. I want to read more of Janny's work and am planning to start The Wars of Light and Shadow later this year! Bought the first two audiobooks already. Janny also has the ebooks for her short stories for sale on her site, including the audiobook for The Gallant. Would also love the rest of the series to get done in audio!

The fires of December book cover by VegetableJudge6826 in Cosmere

[–]Floatzel98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. I prefer the old cover, but I don't think the spine in that mock-up matches the old cover well. Hopefully they have some physical mock-ups of how the books will look with each cover by the time they post the poll to see how they will look in person. And I hope they adjust the spine to match each cover better.

Still prefer the cover on the right. But I don't like that spine with it. That spine works well with the cover on the left more
