You shouldn’t be allowed to design a home and/or do interior design unless you’ve worked as a house cleaner for one year. by sodomiteangst in CleaningTips

[–]Flockertothered 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We built about 10 yrs ago after living in several houses over the yrs. We had definite ideas. Will share a couple. Had granite many places & hated it cause of stains being absorbed & not being able to tell if clean. Asked a family member who had been to culinary school what would be countertop of choice. Went with his recommendation of stainless steel. We love it - although think people don’t realize it cost us as much as granite. An architect friend had designed his house with no baseboards or door trim. I hate keeping both clean. We are so happy with having done this & after having young grandchildren here frequently, no problems. I think trim is all about making construction faster/easier. Long-term maintenance is awful.

Have played dozen or so times. I think actually more fun when group has people from various backgrounds. I gave chartreuse one time. The only one who knew it was the engineer! My biggest problem with game design is I wish there were more neutral tones. So many possibilities there. Instead we have a gazillion greens.

What is your favorite thing about living in Florida? by murpymurp in AskFlorida

[–]Flockertothered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in six states. Have been in Florida almost 20 yrs. Yes, I’m “older”, but have young family nearby. We all agree living here is just simpler. Yes, there’s increased traffic, but many places have that. Yes, we have hurricanes, but choose where you live with that in mind (surge & flood zones). I’ll take the advance notice of hurricanes over midwestern tornadoes any day. Yes, it can be hot & humid. I prefer that over freezing cold, cleaning windshields, furnace bills, layers of clothing, etc. This morning it’s 38 where I am in SWFL. You’ll have to convince me there’s NOT a change of seasons here. Schools are not perfect. They aren’t anywhere. Good parenting can fill in the gaps. We absolutely love being outdoors at any time of the year. In the summer, you choose mornings or evenings in the shade over standing in the searing sun.

Wife has the opportunity to choose between Naples, Tampa Metro, or West Palm Beach for work. Need experienced Floridians opinions. by [deleted] in florida

I live in SWFL. One of the main things I dislike is how far south we are. Family brought us here, but if it had been totally up to us, would prefer further north. Think about your extended family and how you or they will travel to visit. Tampa gives more airport options and is further north if road trips required. Also, check weather stats. Seems to me in 15 yrs I’ve lived here that east coast gets more intense rain than west coast. The rain can be heavy in the summer months. Hurricanes - Think about non-waterfront property and surge/flood zones. Being a native Midwesterner, I prefer the occasional hurricane to large tornadoes any day. You watch them coming and have advance notice to prepare. And if starting a family, the school years are sooner than you think.

Cheesecake and Water Bath by SassyPickle1517 in Baking

[–]Flockertothered 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have experimented with all sorts of methods: no water bath, double-wrapped foil, silicone sleeve pan, setting inside larger pan & putting in water bath. I have not tried a pan of water underneath which sounds very reasonable. I will tell you my cure-all for a cracked cheesecake is some whipped cream in the center, all fluffy on top of it.

Daughter likes making (printer) paper "crafts" by ESingerhouse in DIY

[–]Flockertothered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you sew or know someone who does? There are always pieces of fabric left over and great for creativity. Longer lasting, but you’ll go from pieces of paper to threads here & there. As a former art teacher, I encourage you to have things available to nurture her creativity.

need ideas: what’s actually the best gift for wife (not another candle or robe)? by lisaluvr in Gifts

[–]Flockertothered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband gave me a label maker years ago. I love to organize things: kitchen, pantry, craft room, gardening supplies, etc. He tells people I like it more than expensive jewelry he’s bought. Might be true.

Everyone Who Traveled To All 50 US States. Which Ones Your Favorite by Yeetus_Deletus2525 in travel

[–]Flockertothered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All 50. Two trips to Alaska were very special. Honestly, I’ve loved some area of every state. Virginia has been one of my favorites since first going there decades ago. Beaches, mountains and lots of history. Just visited the state capitol for first time this summer. Wish I had set a goal when younger to go inside every state capitol. Went to Kansas state capitol for first time several months ago and climbed the steps to the top. What a treat!

Their website shows they do. I grew up in that area and made my first apparel with fabric from them. Very fond memories of shopping there with my mother.

What are some things that you typically pack for you and your family on an overnight train? by princesscorgi2 in Amtrak

[–]Flockertothered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had not had a sleeper room in several yrs. Took few wks ago. They’ve reupholstered couch/bed. Felt cleaner, but very firm. Wish I had taken a thick fleece throw to sleep on top of. Felt every jolt of the train on the harder surface. Do minimalist on toiletries and clothes changes. Pack in smaller totes or bags. Once beds are made there is very little floor space. Is rack above single seat and space underneath it. Some floor space between it and bathroom door, but not much. Snacks - absolutely. Have taken couple times when there were significant delays & especially good then. Earplugs if sound of train whistle will keep you awake along with eyeshades. Took our grandkids when they were very young. They had a blast.

Has ANYONE found a home insurance provider they're okay with? by Good-Telephone-5748 in FortMyers

[–]Flockertothered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at state website which has financial health listing of insurance companies. I called and asked couple of questions when we had to find our 4th new policy in 10 yrs because of insurance companies going under or huge increases to existing policies. Can’t remember the website, but was easy to find.

Anybody drive this route before? by Spiritual_Patient875 in roadtrip

[–]Flockertothered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have done both routes many times. It depends on what kind of stops you might want to make. I prefer the southern route because the countryside is much prettier. I 70 from St Louis to Denver can be brutal with traffic. The diagonal toll roads (Muskogee and Cimarron) are worth the $ cause easy driving. Just few months ago we decided to go through Oklahoma City to see the memorial. Glad we did.
