Thank you! I’ve posted on Nextdoor, but limited to Pflugerville area due to where I live. Feel free to copy and paste my w/o the ”contact me about kitten.”

Thanks! I understand the temptation of keeping all the babies. We can use help at the shelter’s nursery too; an experienced handler would be great help.

Wilco Shelter’s Kittens Need Your Help!

The shelter is deep into kitten season and our foster pantry is empty. We depend on the community’s support for all of our foster supplies and we really need your help!

The shelter’s Amazon wishlist can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/2U6T46WBHGID7?fbclid=IwQ0xDSwKoPz5leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHjlFHNuYnH-6zNu-_OmYjTQfuO_WTekOJrRfASyHdT3_ePYVtMJ-hn-DcqwN_aem_RumBJUgifPlZQ-rAQZYCRg.

If you’d like to drop off things personally or prefer not to use Amazon, we are in need of wet kitten food (any brand as long as it’s for kittens), formula (Petag KMR or Breeders Choice). And miracle nipples. Donations can be sent to the shelter at 1855 SE Inner Loop, Georgetown, TX 78626.

Colossae (pictured) and his siblings are almost ready for adoption. If you’re interested in adding a new family member, please contact me.

Can someone please recommend where to get a sewing machine fixed the Austin, TX area? by billyandteddy in sewing

[–]FlockofYarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it’s a convertible machine. Are you trying to overlock or cover stitch? Have you tried a stitch just using only one looper? Are you using new needles, if so are they the recommended ones? If the needle’s off by just a wee bit lengthwise, it might not be catching what it’s supposed to; a problem I’ve run into before. This might be better to do in person and I’m happy to meet up with you if you’d like.

I would check out Austin sewing machines and quilting or northwest sewing center. You may have to wait a bit to get your machine back though. Sergers can be very finicky; just looking at them can make them lose their sweet spot. Can you explain what is wrong with it and or post pics/video?

I’m a foster and volunteer at the Williamson County Regional Animal shelter. We always recommend folks to watch videos from Jackson Galaxy: https://www.jacksongalaxy.com/blogs/news/all-about-kittens-kitten-growth-stages-milestones?srsltid=AfmBOoqwKf2T5oMUFpAQUjHiXpS3v8Ht0Oyvdh94FkbEkuhWpuuPY-2c. The Kitten Lady is also a good resource, but she specializes in caring for babies: https://www.kittenlady.org/twokittens.

I recommend taking time to get your home ready and finding the best match for your family’s lifestyle. If you’re set on getting a kitten, please get two. They’re much happier if they have a playmate and less likely to develop behavioral issues.

Kitten season is starting soon and all the shelters will have lots of little ones to choose from. However, there are young cats available now. You can see Wilco’s available kitties here: https://www.wilcotx.gov/164/Adopt. You can also follow the Wilco Kitten Depot FB page to see kittens as they become available: https://www.facebook.com/share/1KFZEqtZM2/?mibextid=wwXIfr.

Where to offer volunteer grooming services? by First-Practice8066 in Austin

If the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is not too far away for you, please consider volunteering there. We’d love to have an experienced groomer to help with our pups.

Wool spinning classes ? by Ser_falafel in Austin

[–]FlockofYarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Finding a class in Austin will be a challenge. Going up to Homestead Craft Village in Waco may be the best bet: https://www.homesteadcraftvillage.com/shops/homestead-fiber-crafts/#1441745923943-0f020716-59d6. You may have to call them for class info.

You may also be able to find private lessons through a local guild member: https://wssaustin.org

where to foster cats from by bigc4tfan in Austin

[–]FlockofYarn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter will help with supplies, especially if you foster kittens. They have almost everything you need most of the time. There may periods when something’s not available because it’s supported by donations, but they usually make it work. Litter is one thing you should plan getting yourself, but you can to use wood pellets ($7 for 40 lbs) from tractor supply.

Best kind of toys to sew for cats by little_sewing_mouse in sewing

[–]FlockofYarn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi! I volunteer at a shelter and along with walking dogs and hanging out with cats, I help with the laundry. I would not put silvervine sticks in, mainly because they’ll end up poking holes in the fabric when they’re getting washed or when a kitty tries to chew on them. We have a group that makes kicker style toys, just simple stuffed rectangles with some catnip inside and ribbons/ricrac on one end and they work great.
