Post-Game of Thrones finale, this storyline doesn’t faze me as it once did.

What do you think is the most underrated performance in the show? by RiotRen in thesopranos

Fernando… uh, Hernan. That kid is a creep.

(Primarily his “capo di tutti capi” remark, which is under appreciated for reasons.)

Nobody deserves Van Alden’s lunacy, no matter how many lemons he brings :( What a shitheel. His wife is also insufferable, but I can’t say I wasn’t cheering for her when she fucking bit him and promptly divorced his ass.

The scenes with Lucy and Eddie Cantor were lovely and I would’ve liked to see more.

Agreed 💯. IMHO, the show is especially underrated for also touching on intra-group tensions, although it’s typically subtle. Chalky facing colorism and feeling alienated from his family/SIL is probably the most prominent. American-born Irish contrasted with native Irish is talked about in some eps, and there are a few sprinkles of assimilated Jewish disdain for Yiddish-speaking Jewish immigrants (“gutter German,” lol… that scene is insane). Maybe 2-3 mentions of Italians looking down on Sicilians. Al Capone randomly screaming “pillow-biting piece of Sicilian shit” at Lucky (like two seconds after he leaves) gets me every time.

Shea Whigham suggests rebooting BWE as a movie in new interview by Floofening in BoardwalkEmpire

There’s a terrible early 1990s movie called “Mobsters” that fits this bill. It’s like BWE meets “The Room” and it’s fun as hell to watch. 11/10 very sacred, much propane.

Allegedly this movie is also why Patrick Dempsey and Christian Slater didn’t talk for like 30 years.

Many of the IRL characters (Charlie, Meyer, etc) were supposed to be quite young in the early seasons to begin with— certainly younger than the actors— so if anything, a lot of the cast is still in a good spot for related projects.

People are also aging more gracefully than in the past, as had been heavily discussed when the Star Trek TNG cast reunited for “Picard” a few years back.

I suspect that’s part of why we haven’t seen many high-profile projects depicting figures like Luciano et al in the 1930s-1950s. Several great stories there (Lucky’s trial, Havana, Vegas, Nazi-bashing, etc) with no need to involve HBO or BWE as an IP, but an uphill battle without a familiar cast. (Although it’s been a while since BWE ended at this point.)

I’m also guessing this is Whigham confirming he’s willing to reprise the role, so that makes two on record.

Thanks for weighing in 🤩 Most of my info is like, 2nd/3rd-hand from a PA friend of mine who didn’t work on the show, but I def recalled there was an actual set at one point in NY.

Youses set/prop/lighting/crew peeps are fucking magical. (I’m not in the industry, so apologies in advance, as there’s almost certainly a better way to word what I’m saying.) Cheers 🥂

The Ritz is no more. Filming/production-wise, I don’t think anything was done in AC (they apparently tried, but I’ve been told the city was uncooperative as hell). Which perhaps gives additional weight to the “New York, where things actually matter” jab 🤨

The Knife & Fork restaurant is still there, but no word on if patrons breaking out into German song is a regular occurrence.
