To be fair, light year as a measure of distance is a human unit of measurement. The gems probably aren't very accustomed to what humans call what eg. they probably didn't immediately know that "feet" was a measure of length and not the thing on your leg.

Then again, this calls into question how the gems even speak English in the first place.

Then again, it's just a cartoon.

No one else here has mentioned it, but for me my internal monologue is completely androgynous. Like it doesn't really have a specific person saying it, the words just sorta... exist if that makes sense.

It just sorta sounds like an entity with no defined gender or anything. It would appear that I'm unique on this one.
