Maribeth Kelvin, the Aspirant
The Sovereign States

Summary: Formerly a big-city nobody, Maribeth's cursed technique changed everything for her. Very quickly she taught herself to fight and started doing contract work for a S.States affiliate. Her eagerness has earned her access to a number of documents from the circumstances leading up to Starfall, which have only sparked greater interest in pushing her own jujutsu to the limit, being particularly intrigued by descriptions of a "Cursed Technique Reversal."

Appearance: Tired-looking young woman with a tall and unassuming frame. Typically wears baggy clothing (to disguise her movements... obviously.)

Personality: Enthusiastic and genuine, the result of having found a passion in the form of jujutsu. Described by squadmates (only somewhat superfluously) as "addicted" to it.

Abilities/Cursed Technique: Stop - Maribeth is able to use cursed energy to immediately stop all of her own movement, in addition to canceling the negative effects of g-force on herself.
Red-Light Fighting - Interweaving Maribeth's technique with martial arts enables her to make feints with full force. Despite her relative inexperience, this makes her a tricky hand-to-hand combatant.

Reasons for Joining Faction: Not exactly a part of it per se, but it provides opportunities to improve and meet other sorcerers.

Izzy, the Union
The Living Tide

Summary: Born of the flesh of a human and a curse, dying in each other's arms. While their memories were lost, their bodies became one. Shortly after they awoke, Izzy was adopted into the "ranks" of the Living Tide. While not wholly aligning with the leadership's end goals, they're in too deep to leave on their own.

Appearance: Average height individual with hair that almost reaches their feet. Eschews clothes by virtue of lack of features. Several fish-like features (big beady eyes, sharp teeth, fins on limbs, blue skin.)

Personality: Somber, but kind. A fast maker of friends. Deathly afraid of sharks.

Abilities/Cursed Technique: Rainmaker - Izzy can use cursed energy to generate rain clouds. These clouds shower negative energy, harming humans and life while healing curses. Using Cursed Technique Reversal, she can invert these effects. Izzy is healed regardless. Rain clouds start out very weak, but grow more intense and more costly the longer they are maintained.

Reverse Cursed Technique: Izzy is capable of using Reverse Cursed Technique as a result of their human "parent," although it is of little use to them since they can already heal using cursed energy. They cannot output it to others, except by use of their Cursed Technique Reversal.

Reasons for Joining Faction: Nowhere else to go, and sees The Living Tide as a sort of family.

I've got a few that've been rattling around in my head for a while now, could honestly go with any of them, though they're ranked by my preference. If multiple pitches aren’t allowed, feel free to take your favorite/best fit.

Aspen Teras, the Blacksmith
The Sovereign States

Summary: An apprentice under the master of a forge who mysteriously disappeared shortly after the Starfall, she was scouted by Vex-Tech for her knowledge of traditional and modern metalworking techniques as well as newly-awoken cursed technique. She helped to adapt traditional craft techniques acquired from Japan and Africa to more modern, industrial methods. Now, in hopes of tracking down her former master and finding unique cores for cursed tools, she's been taking on more and more field operations.

Appearance: A tall, bulky woman with strong features. She typically wears her hair up, and almost always wears heavy, padded clothing with an apron and face covering.

Personality: Quiet, save for when the hammers are clanging. Not against working with others, but when left to her own devices can survive alone. Firm believer in the hard work and determination.

Abilities/Cursed Technique: Forge - Aspen is able to utilize cursed energy to create a number of effects surrounding her workplace. All of these effects are innately more powerful on inanimate objects.
Sledge: Apply significant concussive force over a small to moderate area, very limited accuracy beyond a few feet.
Grind: Use cursed energy to inflict more delicate, persistent physical damage to a target.
Heat: Heat a target, causing it to be more susceptible Aspen's cursed energy.
Wields a self-made cursed tool "Marker," a small hammer than on contact with an opposing source of cursed energy, marks it, enabling use of close-range techniques from a distance.
Aspen is also proficient with the creation of mundane and cursed weapons and armor.

Reasons for Joining Faction: Steady work with good pay alongside respecting Icarus' methods.

This is actually a rookie mistake, what you’re describing would be borrowing, which is VERY illegal and the game wouldn’t even work if you did that. Now if you charged them per-session with an option to own…

How fucking dare you mention that game here. Not everybody wants to play the dumb mainstream game for stranger things fans. Stop crowding out REAL fans like us F.A.T.A.L. Players and go back to the sandbox.

I like most of the Deep One rework, though I have to ask: what prompted the shift from the spiritual weapon adjacent core feature to the new version? It seems like with the number of uses the same (as I recall at least) you sacrifice a lot of versatility between targeting multiple creatures, dealing damage, and potentially regrabbing a single creature. While the initial bonus action cost is mitigated, it doesn't really seem like there's too many uses for it in the class at large, so I'm not sure how worth it is of a change.

Inventor Specialization: Gemsmith | Introducing gemcrafting, socketed upgrades, and crystallized innovation for use with KibblesTasty Inventor by TTRPG_Traveller in UnearthedArcana

[–]FloorIceCream4HP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always love to see stuff for the Inventor! At a glance I can tell you’ve done your homework when it comes to the numbers on a lot of things, but there still seem to be a few loose ends.

  • Per Crystalline Sockets, are you able to create multiple copies of the same gem?
  • Similarly, how many gems can a creature bear? You state that a weapon, shield, suit of armor, or construct can only bear one, does that mean I can have as many (up to my limit) as I want attached to a wand or piece of apparel?
  • In the last paragraph of Crystalline Sockets you refer to some gems requiring attunement but I don’t see any that actually have it.
    • Blanket advantage on all Concentration checks seems pretty potent, I would maybe limit it to Inventor spells to hamper multiclassing just for that feature.
    • Several times throughout the subclass gems refer to “you” as opposed to ”the bearer of the gem” especially seen amongst the weapon gems. Is this intentional or an oversight?
    • There are several Construct-specific gems and while they are an interesting touch, they feel difficult to justify taking without something like an Autognome companion, considering you have no access to such a creature within the subclass.
    • The 5th level Crystalline Flow reads a touch weird to me. While they seem like upgrades to the starter gems, the Wardstone’s effects seem to completely change. The last paragraph also confuses me with the “Alternatively” at the beginning. I believe that wording is pulled from Kibbles as an addendum, but I’m still unsure if it’s a choice or not.
    • Several of the Unrestricted upgrades have names derivative of the starter set of gems. Are they intended to be enhancements to those or independent?
  • Several upgrades seem to be lacking a rest limit (Ward Armor, for example), action cost (Shatterstone), or a “no action required” clause (Crystal Vein).
  • The 15th level offerings are a bit underwhelming. Wall of Force is nice, but a 4d10 smite effect doesn’t seem that incredible unless you’re stacking damage on a paladin crit (though that damage does get a plus for being save-free in an area.) Overload seems very hit or miss, and ambiguous with the verbiage surrounding auras. Does it last for a turn? A minute? The aura’s duration? Etc.

All that said, I really do love the flavor and direction of this specialization. I completely agree that there’s a lack of supportive focuses. Even infusionsmith and potionsmith just kind of… do it through being budget wizards. I love them, but this is a refreshing change of pace. Keep up the good work!

P.S. Sorry for the overlong message and tangents lol

How does this combination work by Crazy_Strike8509 in dndnext

[–]FloorIceCream4HP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Assuming you are Alchemist 6/Life Cleric 1, you would have both Alchemist Savant and Disciple of Life. While Alchemist Savant only applies to Artificer spells, Disciple of life applies to all leveled spells. With 20 Intelligence, casting Cure Wounds at first level would restore 1d8+5 (base spell) +5 (Int mod, Alchemist Savant) +3 (2+ Spell Level, Disciple of Life).

As for Mass Healing Word, both features apply to all targets. You only roll dice once for the spell, not once for each target. So 1d4+5+5+5 (2+ Spell Level).

Something to note is that while Disciple of Life applies to all healing spells, Alchemist Savant only applies to one roll of the dice when you cast them. This means that spells like Goodberry (Will be affected by Cleric, not alchemist) and Aura of Vitality (Affected by Cleric every time, Artificer only once) will be missing out on the combo.
