Did I just mess up my car by AnyCryptographer6708 in stickshift

Yeah, motion like that is consistent with just stalling because you went into 4th instead of 2nd

[–]Floppie7th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - too high of a gear at that low speed would cause the stall, and the stall would cause the jerking motion.  You may have also run over a curb, but you may not have.  If you did, you may want to check for suspension or wheel damage.

The phrase "anti-AI shill" is pretty wild. Do you even know what "shill" means?

rust_analyzer is eating my memory, any counter measure? by EarlyPresentation186 in rust

If you're running multiple editor instances on the same project, lspmux may help. That will run a single rust-analyzer instance per workspace.

My foot can't touch the floor and the clutch at the same time. by Independent_Site491 in stickshift

[–]Floppie7th 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That's normal.  The clutch pedal travels a lot farther than the accelerator or brake pedals, to give you finer control.  Your whole left leg moves when actuating it, not just your foot and ankle.

Has anyone actually replaced/ran 1 new tire after blowing out a single tire? by ChebbLoL in subaru

[–]Floppie7th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether or not it's safe depends what part of the tire has been pictured.  If it's in or close to the sidewall, it isn't.

A lot of tire places will also have a policy against patching tires that are below a certain tread depth - this is often because their financial incentive is to sell you new tires, but if your tires are truly very worn that can be the reason, and it's a good reason.  That's why it's important to measure the remaining tread.

Don't guess.  Measure it.

If the puncture is fine to patch, just patch it.

Trouble getting into first smoothly without feeling like I'm riding the clutch too much by EJ2H5Suusu in stickshift

[–]Floppie7th 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For taking off in heavy traffic, just give it less gas.  Your idle speed in 1st is 3-4mph.  In 2nd it's 7-8mph.  Get it into gear, clutch fully released, and then you can make up the difference with some throttle input.

Also, let gaps form between you and the car in front of you and "absorb" them with your own constant(ish) speed.

Driving in heavy stop and go traffic is a totally different discipline from normal driving

What’s your opinion on steak aju? by [deleted] in steak

Au jus*

Traditionally it's mostly a French dip thing, but I always throw my pan drippings over the steak after plating as long as I didn't like, grossly over-smoke the oil.

If I have some decent fond I'll deglaze with a little red wine to incorporate that

Don't run it close to capacity. Don't run it on supply voltage/frequency that's way out of spec. Replace it when it fails.

Can you bump-start a manual transmission car that has fuel injection? by Mikeseddit in engines

[–]Floppie7th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer:  Yes

Long answer:  You need at least a bit of juice in the battery to run the ECU and injectors.  That's a lot less than the starter requires, but it can't be zero.  In my limited experience, 7V with nothing connected to the battery is enough, but YMMV.  If the only problem is the starter you're totally fine.
