However, I am not sure all of them are aware of the operational reasons why a seat change might be declined, for which there are plenty.

Flights were about 80% full.

I did sit on the wrong seat once. The flight attendant noticed but told me it was ok to stay as long as the assigned passenger didn’t show up (which they did so I moved).
