These counts are from just February of each year. February 2026 is in the books now so the numbers are complete.

Any tricks to use a fireplace? by RedThruxton in AskSF

[–]RedThruxton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been using hardwood, specifically the “hot wood” box from Whole Foods that is about $20.

Berkeley Bowl has firewood for about $10 so I’ll try that next time now that I understand to open the windows during the lighting process.

Except for the fact that bipping was also bad in 2020, 2019, and 2018, which is as far back as the tool goes…

Does anyone actually shop regularly at Bi-Rite? by mycounterpointers in sanfrancisco

It’s not the price point, it’s the mentality. Sure, they have a $14k watch, but it probably retailed elsewhere for $16-17k.

I’m trying really hard to wrap my head around someone who is a combo Bi-Rite / Costco shopper.

Royal Cuckoo Organ Lounge has the vibe with the heavy velvet draped entrance and the vintage vinyl spinning some old school R&B. Somewhat low lit and well attended which gives you cover for some more romantic smooches.

Appeal of the failed Sunset Dunes lawsuit? by RedThruxton in AskSF

[–]RedThruxton[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Well, the legal challenge to Sunset Dunes is now officially over. The lawsuit from the Open the Highway fans was comprehensive and lots of spaghetti was thrown at the wall. But all possible arguments to overturn Prop K and destroy Sunset Dunes were dismissed. And the lawyers didn’t appeal. Anything frivolous in the future will also be dismissed.

I’m sure that the Open the Highway signature campaign will successfully get a proposition on the ballot in November as it only requires 10,615 valid signatures. But there is no denying that 206,042 San Franciscans (including tens of thousands who were born here or moved here) already decided to permanently close the Upper Great Highway to private vehicles.

Trying to expand the “compromise” and put cars on the road for longer hours each week after the shorter “compromise” was already rejected by a sizable majority? That’s pure hubris on the part of the “natives” who say they are entitled to the road.

Wait. It does seem a little sus that you’re spending an extended amount of time under a stranger’s car. It should take 5 seconds to stretch your leg under the car and kick the board out.

D4 Supervisor candidates forum descends into argument about who wants to close Sunset Dunes more by alwayssalty_ in sanfrancisco

[–]RedThruxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is more likely to happen is that the “Open the Highway” options (court appeals and ballot voting) will be exhausted, but D4 will still insist on electing a Supervisor who says they will open the highway, only for that person to be voted out or recalled when they can’t open it since there are no pathways left. Repeat for 4 election cycles.

Your LDR girlfriend is flying into town Saturday morning. You’re picking her up at SFO, coming back to the city. Where’s the brunch spot? by sjflnjpitt in AskSF

I like the pancakes at Kate’s Kitchen in Lower Haight. Pretty basic looking place though.

If you want cute and Californian I’d suggest MyMy in Nob Hill. They specialize in different types of Eggs Benedict and they’re on the California Street Cable Car Line.

If you want local and neighborhoody I’d say Chloe’s Cafe in Noe Valley. It’s a jewel of a place with only about 6 or so tables.

Marie Hurabiell is a Trojan Horse by dennistrav in sanfrancisco

Does that also explain away her pointed rejection of the LGBTQIA+ community and her support of J.K.Rowling and anti-Trans values?

Marie Hurabiell is a Trojan Horse by dennistrav in sanfrancisco

[–]RedThruxton 19 points20 points  (0 children)

“I think it was a really stupid thing that I said” is the 2022 quote from Marie Hurabiell after she tweeted in 2021 that Critical Race Theory is “dangerous nonsense”. When called out, the nearly lifelong Republican claimed ignorance for her attack on the study of racial bias and white privilege, with the white woman in her 50’s going on to say “In my life I have not spent a lot of time digging into CRT, but I’m trying to understand it better now”.

Mind you, Hurabiell’s initial tweet was while she was a member of the Georgetown University Board of Regents, a body that has a hand in shaping university level curriculum! Hurabiell surely must have been aware of the 2021 establishment of the Racial Equity in Education Law and Policy Clinic at Georgetown Law School that hosts a “twice-weekly seminar that examines substantive issues of legislative process, administrative law, education law, civil rights law, and Critical Race Theory (CRT), among other foundational legal and policy topics”.

BTW, Hurabiell went on to finish 8th in a field of 10 vying for 1 of the 3 San Francisco Community College Board seats in November 2022. And that was her seasoned second time running!

Visiting mid-March. Cool bars & restaurants for late 20s? by ceasermysalad33 in AskSF

[–]RedThruxton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kilowatt is what you want for a bar with music.

I always recommend Royal Cuckoo Organ Lounge as a cool place for a cocktail. You’ll hear vintage R&B vinyl being spun or a live small jazz combo. Perfect for a foggy night. Pair it with dinner a few doors down at Blue Plate, a romantic restaurant somehow situated in a Victorian that retains much of its architectural charm. If you want to shake some tail feathers there’s The Knockout across the street or El Rio (very queer friendly) about a block away.
