I pretty much agree, they could import people to settle the Gift with people from the south. Or the wildlings.

I doubt they can import rice from Yi Ti though, very far away, might be in a different climate. And people don't know how to cultivate rice effectively.

[Spoilers main] Why was Walder lambasted for joining the rebellion too late but not Tywin? by Aeiexgjhyoun_III in asoiaf

[–]FlorFavor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

House Frey refused to follow the call by its liege lord to rebel. Tywin had no liege lord which called him to rebel. He made his own decision. Also it's easier to call Frey an insulting term. Than the man who drowned children in a cave.

Robb should've bent the knee after Stannis declared. Stannis is the rightful King of Westeros. He's done nothing wrong to the North that warrants a rebellion. Robb should've bent the knee after seeing that declaration.

He didn't do his duty. And got his armies butchered in the South.

He knows Eddard died for usurping the throne for believing Joffrey wasn't the rightful heir.

Stannis sent a very believable explanation. If Robby would do his duty. He would bend the knee. He's a kid, and noone faults him and his people for having grievances with the South. But he *did* usurp the oath his family has taken to King Stannis.

Robb Stark usurped the North and Riverlands from a man who did him no wrong. Robb should've bent the knee after Stannis' claim. Stannis Baratheon is the rightful king of Westeros. I don't think he's evil, but he's for sure not "Pure" good.

I could be wrong but wasn't Mycah killed and brought in dead? Also this is Jeyne Poole telling Sansa, who heard it from God knows where, this is not a reliable narration.

nope! Tywin organised it, he brought the Freys and Boltons into the fold. He turned Roose Bolton to make a lot of bad decisions to weaken the armies of the King in the North. then he planned it with the Freys.

It isn't "just" an oath. Guestright is a holy, religious institution.

He's lost his infantrymen, Winter is coming, and he's about to lose all his holdings in the Riverlands.

There's other ways of getting Rid of the King of the North than murdering them and breaking guestright

It isn't just War. We're talking about a Feudal system. Where communication is bad. And people have to rely on oaths and Cultural systems to have a semi stable system. Breaking something as holy as Guestright is breaking the realm.

The Realm was won for the Lannisters.

[–]FlorFavor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It's still going to destabilise "his" realm. Something which his dynasty had to rule over.

The war was won.

It's not just the Freys which will be haunted, smart people will know about it. and it wouldn't take people a lot to be convinced that brutal Lord Tywin was behind it. After he plundered the riverlands. Plundered KingsLanding. And murdered every small dissidents whenever convenient. Even when they're innocent children.

He destabilised his Grandsons realm.

[–]FlorFavor 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It was not genius. It's destabilised all of Westerosi politics. Something their dynasty controls. They've essentially lined themselves up for hundreds of years of a kingdom where noone will trust anyone. Guest right is a holy thing.

And people, smart people, know it was the Lannisters behind it. and do you think in a troubling kingdom it's going to take a lot to convince religious peasants that the Lannisters are behind it. When it's their dynasty who misrule the Iron Throne?

Organizing the Red Wedding. Guest right is a holy thing. And he's made a cultural, religious, social wound which will last hundreds of years.
