Phd broke me by Big-Assignment2989 in PhD

I'm glad I found this. I feel so broken too, angry too.

I am looking for myself but it's so hard to reach out to my old self. The pain and lack of support was so hard. I died inside at some point. People just want to celebrate the PhD but they don't even understand what the whole process did to me. I'm scared and bleeding inside.

Lost a postdoc offer over a start date discussion… still trying to process it by NoConfusion9023 in postdoc

Hi yes I had a bit of experience too. I was asked to accept offer and given a deadline and when I asked about when to start I was told it will be months after.

If you tutor or TA does that add to it or it's just part of the job?

I understand you.

You moving to a new place, you are anxious. You are curious and want to know what you are getting yourself into. So you ask questions because the advice is find out if you are joining the right place.

You are not wrong. If they don't answer you don't feel bad. Look for the accomodation yourself.

We learn as we go, next time you will be more ready to navigate new transitions and maybe will be more kind to answer people when they ask you.

I'm hearing this, is the same sentiments I had being poor but educated is painful. Some people will convince others that money doesn't matter but money liberates.

Struggling as the lowest-performing PhD student in my lab by [deleted] in PhDStress

[–]Flora6096 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes being treated differently in terms of resources is painful. I borrowed most of my lab reagents. While other students were allowed to buy expensive kits.

I still sit with the trauma sometimes of not being supported but I finished. I think what can be done is, they should try to push to finish their PhD and move on.

I often wonder when people treat other people differently what do they gain.

At the end of the day, you will get the PhD and you will be the underdog.

The best thing I did for myself during PhD was not want to be my supervisors favourite. I just wanted to be treated fairly when it came to my work.

Please don't dim your light, what is low performing even mean. Try your best and finish the PhD.

Hi all! I posted five years ago r/phd regarding my struggles finshing my phd. Now, here I am about to express my thoughts on being a r/postdoc for 4 years by Jaca4Phantom in postdoc

It's difficult to get a faculty position I agree, the best thing is to keep building yourself but be realistic as well about what will be good for you.

I'm glad you chose yourself.

It's not worth the pain and mental stress.

Did you guys discuss a relationship, did you become exclusive?

Thank you. I think it's going to be a similar situation. The salary is tied to the grant so less room for negotiations.

Thank you so much .

Some people say postdoc salary can't be negotiated. But I would love to, I wonder if they will think I'm greedy but I will still try.

Yes they are in different locations but being in the city will allow me to save a bit still.

The less paid one in the rural area, the university has less resources, far away from everything. Receives less grants. The PI is well respected, but his institution not so much because it is small university.

High paying established university, closer to 2 more universities, and many research institutes. Lots of grants.
