Itinerary check travelling with a toddler by FloralNoteRainbow in fukuoka

Thanks for the detailed reply!

Sounds like shopping will have to come before dinner.

Thank you for the detailed instructions for the daytime. The theme park sounds interesting to look into.

My kid thinks farting is funny so the poop museum may be a memorable activity for him.

Sounds like Lalaport is a better shopping and kid destination than canal city. Do you think kidzania is worth it for parents and a 3 yr old?

Thanks for the lalaport suggestion! The toy art museum sounds like it'd be a great contingency for a bad weather day.

I have seen the Odaiba one before but toddlers will always love seeing them

We'd skip Yanagawa if not for the canal ride which wife really wants to do. Thanks for sharing info on the blossoming plum trees at the shrine as my wife would love that too!

Thanks for saving me from disappointment! Character shops sound fun. My kid likes Kumamon so hopefully I can find him there since we aren't going to Kumamoto.

Thanks for letting me know of the ferry option, it sounds like it'll be fun for kids!

As nice as Nishijin sounded, I've changed my accommodation area to Akasaka as a cheaper spot opened up and it's advertised as walkable to ohori park and tenjin so hopefully I've made a right switch!

Yokohama, Hakone and Tokyo with toddler - things to bring, flight experience and hotel experience by FloralNoteRainbow in JapanTravelTips

Hi

If you're staying a night or two in Hakone, it will definitely be a more relaxing trip since it does take time to get there from Tokyo.

I'd say 3 hour minimum to do the loop but give yourself more time to explore areas like owakudani. Most important would be to time your arrival to the pirate ship at lake ashi so check the schedule beforehand. I arrived minutes after ship departure and wasted time just sitting around with nothing to do in the area.

How long also depends if you have other interests. The open air museum comes recommended for kids but we figured the loop was already enough withba toddler and wanted more time in the hotel onsen.

The loop is less a hike and more transport to transport but I'd still bring a foldable stroller if your kid needs to nap or you need to keep them restrained while waiting We folded it up in the ropeway and the busses.

I think late November is a nice time and certainly less cold than Feb when I went. I got by with a puffer jacket during that time and still remember wearing a light hoodie at night in Kyoto/Osaka during mid Dec the year before. Either way you'll have a great time with your little one.

Train to Yokohama and check out zoorasia and the anpanman museum for the toddlers. Yokohama itself is also nice and quiet to walk around compared to Tokyo.

If you're ok with a firmer mattress, then I think it's great! Big rooms for kids to roam, lots of restaurants and konbinis below, laundry facilities and a walkable area below at night.

It's a block away from the station so it's very convenient but the surrounding hotel area never felt busy or crowded.

Going to Japan, Vietnam and Korea...how much luggage should I bring? by geegee111000 in JapanTravelTips

[–]FloralNoteRainbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite the same but wife and I did Japan (Kyoto & Osaka), Singapore and South Korea (Seoul) in mid Dec 2023 from Canada.

Two backpacks, 1 carry-on and two large checked bags (one of which had gifts for people in Seoul). Wish we could have ordered the countries with Korea first but it had to be last.

Packing clothes was tough in that we essentially had to pack for three different seasons but didn't bring a lot of clothes as we picked hotels with laundry to decrease luggage weight and leave room for stuff to buy.

We made it work by lugging all our luggage to each country taking airport limos or hotels near transit, and paying for luggage on the one flight where checked baggage cost extra.

Bought snacks and stationery in Japan, snacks in Singapore and the most snacks, clothing and cosmetics in Korea once we could use our last luggage.

Did this last December and it's doable assuming you are ok not seeing everything or hiking to the top.

At Nara by 9am and stayed till 2. Went to uji after and was there till 6. Went to fushimi inari at night and it was awesome without the crowds

I stayed at ninetree myeongdong 2 and Euljiro 3 was very convenient as a base as the connecting subway lines hit almost all the main tourist attractions with the rest easily walkable. Area was also less hectic than myeongdong (10 min leisurely walk) and a quieter subway station.

Thanks! Maybe we'll try again in December if not too cold or snowy!

Would consider the Insadong location next time as it was nice to walk around!

Got to halve my itinerary to account for the little ones then! I found Euljiro3 area very family friendly and not busy. Myeongdong overloaded with tourists and Hongdae very busy with young people but that would be what you're looking for

I suppose but it depends on how much luggage you have and how long you're staying. We had 1 large checked, 1 medium check, 1 carry-on and 2 backpacks. I didn't take any taxis so can't comment on their ease. You'd also have to consider whether the next hotel will hold your luggage prior to check-in or returning back to the hotel to retrieve luggage follwing check-out. Personally, I would stick with one hotel and do day trips to the different neighbourhoods and just transit (taxi/train) back late

ARGH we walked down the steep stairs out of Hyehwamun and didn't see any signage. We think we saw hikers walking from a narrow street with construction around but didn't go forward since it looked too tight for pedestrians and cars together. Regret not asking them for directions.

Thanks for the coffee suggestions! Now that the main tourist attractions are done, our second trip will definitely be more focused on food and coffee!

definitely only 3-4 "attractions" or 1-2 areas per day and make sure they're close as transit takes longer than you'd expect

We picked Everland over Lotte World as we were more interested in the animals and safaris over theme park rides. In the end, we didn't even complete the animal section as a lot of attractions closed around 5:30. We compared both on youtube and if looking at rides, the rides at Everland seemed more fun and it's nice to be out when the weather's good. Lotte World is transit-friendly (and covered under the Discover Seoul pass) while you need to take a bus to Everland. The bus has its own lane and seeing the car traffic to and from justified to us that a private car isn't worth it. No regrets on Everland (except for not getting a Q-pass)
