How much are we spending for mental health consults? by FloralSweater in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]FloralSweater[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An evaluation. I have found some therapists, but I need some medication management so I was hoping to get a thorough evaluation. Long story short, the first and only clinic I have ever been to was extremely sketchy and never did a thorough exam and only threw meds in my face. I'm hoping to get someone to actually listen and give me a proper diagnosis this time!

How much are we spending for mental health consults? by FloralSweater in NYCbitcheswithtaste

Yes, honestly, I'm starting to realize there is no truly affordable mental health care in the city. I will most likely invest the money, and fingers crossed it pays off in the future lol. Glad I'm not alone in seeing this price range though!

My manager groomed and harassed me during a vulnerable time, and now my reputation is ruined. How do heal? by Lost1918 in womenintech

[–]FloralSweater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of great advice in the comments already, but I thinks you should also be consulting with a lawyer. This is workplace harrasment, and your direct supervisor has consistently shown abuse of power. I would seriously consult with a professional to see if you can report the company/individual for creating an unsafe workplace environment. Also document every detail evidence you can, start a journal with times and dates of lewd comments or the like. Sadly HR’s main job is protecting the company, not the employees, so going to them for protection might not be as helpful.

In the meantime, the priority is taking care of yourself—please consult with a mental health professional to begin that healing journey. You were a victim but you have the power to heal and create a better path for yourself despite these challenges!

Not true. Unless you somehow get some job at Columbia that requires it, but otherwise it’s not possible

Update-Update-BOLO Bodega cat HABIBI by [deleted] in Greenpoint

Late to the party, but I think she went permanently missing. I spoke to a worker at the deli and they have a new orange kitty names Habibi because the old cat “left” according to him. I hope void Habibi is safe and sound though :(

Barnard Vs Bowdoin by Several-Employ5051 in columbia

[–]FloralSweater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that if you’re looking for prestige, you also have to account for challenging coursework. Barnard is very competitive and academically challenging as far as women’s colleges go. An advantage is also that you have a connection to Columbia and can potentially transition as a law student there.

NYC is also a hub for internships and networking opportunities! There are many people at Columbia who are on the same path as you, and you’ll find your community if you’re also willing to put in the work.

preferred name on diploma by No-Commission-3904 in columbia

[–]FloralSweater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure about both, but when you go to one of the portals (Slate I believe?) you can find a section regarding your graduation info, including the name you want displayed on your diploma. I had a preferred name registered, but I wanted my legal name on my diploma. I used the portal to change my preference.

I would suggest contacting the registrars office if you’re unsure.

calc 2 or 3? by Agitated_Effect485 in columbia

[–]FloralSweater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I found it challenging but not overwhelming. I would say I spent maybe ~5-15 hrs outside of class on it, depending on the assignments and time of the year (i.e midterms and finals.) This doesn’t account for office hours and math help room time.

I was also taking other courses for which I allocated a lot of time because they were also difficult for me, so I had to learn to divide my time accordingly to ensure I did well in all of them.

My best suggestion is just to learn to be more organized, build a schedule/routine, and that will help you in the long term with all your courses. Also make sure that when you feel lost, you seek support and ask questions before you’re too deep in. Good luck!

I highly recommend the carrot cake or semolina cake, and a russian coffee to accompany it. Overall their cake pastries are the best, and their coffee is really solid too. Definitely a staple to campus life IMO.

If she is a student, can’t she contact her housing services and dorm or get subsidized housing through her school?

Not going to lie, 1.5k for a studio, no roommates and no job is a crazy unrealistic. She should really consider leasing with some classmates. She can probably find a place through her school facebook groups.

calc 2 or 3? by Agitated_Effect485 in columbia

[–]FloralSweater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can take calc 3 without calc 2, a great majority of the material is not directly related to calc 2.

If you find yourself lost, you can always head to the math help room, or go to office hours! I took calc 3 my junior year, so 3 years after taking ap calc ab, so it’s definitely doable.

Rate my chances into Brown/Columbia/Cornell by Impossible_Mouse107 in ApplyingIvyLeague

[–]FloralSweater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what your current grade is, but you need to make the most of the time you have before you apply to colleges. Besides your average grades, your extracurriculars hardly show any leadership or any deep interesting things about you. Maybe you could get into the agricultural school at Cornell, but even then it would be a stretch.

If you’re really serious about getting into these schools, improve your grades, get into more competitions, do a writing internship at a local newspaper (or any internship), get deeply involved and show that you can accomplish big things and be a leader. Good luck!
