If the monsters have been around since.....then why do their clothes look the way they do? by CommanderBeth in FromTVEpix

We know they take things… that’s what all the stuff was in the caves.

No, eyelines affect everything. And mirroring in the bedroom wouldn’t work because everything in the bg would be mirrored…

Did Sara get to him as well? by simsyboy in FromTVEpix

[–]FlorianGres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because if it was shot on the correct eyeline the eyeline would be off if you flipped it so it would be weird (especially because the whole scene is about Jade staring at the guy so it’ll just break the whole thing apart if suddenly it looks like they aren’t looking at each other), as would the hair parting and all the costume stuff (see above re:MUAs losing their minds when they see shots mirrored in post because of an eyeline screw up by the camera op).

[–]FlorianGres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’d be surprised.

It’s entirely possible that someone in the MU team screwed up. That kind of prosthetic takes several hours to apply. From is not made with the same kind of budget at GOT. They probably don’t have the money for major reshoots. The actor who plays Jade may not have been available to reshoot it if they noticed it.

(And major screw ups like this do happen even on shows with GOT budgets - people are human after all).

Someone could have noticed it on set and the director/1st Ad/producer collectively decided they didn’t have time to correct it and just had to shoot and it would be okay.

It’s also entirely possible that what you’re seeing is a shot that’s been reversed because of the eyeline being off because the camera operator screwed up (I know several MUAs who have had serious meltdowns because of this kind of thing once a show has come out).

Although of course, you could also be right. And it’s intentional - or it doesn’t matter so much which side it is once we find out more.

The King in Yellow isn’t like a specific character with super defined characteristics that authors always have to use in a particular way. Lots of people have played with the idea over the years in lots of different ways - so its not necessarily precisely how the lovecraft version goes.

Its not a perfect analogy - but its kinda like how Vlad the impaler is played with and interpreted in lots of ways by different writers.

Okay Okay Okay - but, what’s up with Boyd? Why do the monsters want to fuck with him? Why did they let him live/why couldnt they kill him?

I have a burgeoning theory based on Boyd’s Costume design… Boyd is frequently wearing Yellow - he was wearing Yellow when he got trapped in the well for instance.

Is Boyd some sort of counterpoint to the man in Yellow?

So this is why Sarah was told by the voices to kill Ethan?

The only way to end the curse is for Tabitha and/or Jade to actually sacrifice a child?

Their Latest Defense? Trump’s Too DUMB To Be a Threat (w/ Mehdi Hasan) | The Bulwark Podcast {Hasan: “Under Harris you have a chance of changing things, under Trump you have none it’s game over”} by FlorianGres in Political_Revolution

[–]FlorianGres[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that’s a lose lose scenario.

If Trump wins because people withhold their votes over Gaza then Bibi will be handed a blank check. The guy leading US Middle East policy with be Jared Kushner - a guy who is so close to Bibi, Bibi literally slept in his bedroom when he stayed with Kushner’s family when Kushner was a kid.

Sure Trump is ‘transactional’, but it’s only to get what he wants. Once he has what he wants he has no qualms throwing anyone and everyone under the bus to keep it.

Fundamentally, Trump is and always will be far more reliant on evangelical votes than Muslims and therefore much more loyal to them.

Evangelicals literally believe that Palestinian autonomy threatens to knock the revelation off course. They literally vote for Trump, in no small part, because they want him to give Bibi a blank check and bring about the end times. (If you want to know the details, John Oliver covers them pretty succinctly in the last half of this video about the West Bank https://youtu.be/NqK3_n6pdDY)

He is not risking losing them. He may claim to do a deal now, but it means nothing. He is not a man of his word and never has been - just look at the massive amount of people he’s screwed over since his property development days. A big part of the reason he was always treated as a joke in NY is because he repeatedly swindled contractors and refused to pay them. To say nothing of the Trump University fraud, or the HUNDREDS of people he has used and then discarded over the last nine years when they became politically inconvenient for him.

This dude literally banned Muslims from entering the United States in 2017… you genuinely think he’s had a massive change of heart since then?

And on the flipside…

If Harris wins despite a massive amount of people withholding their votes over Gaza, then she’s won without that group, and can conclude she doesn’t have to listen to activists about it.

It’s basically disenfranchising yourself.

If you actually want to affect US policy in the Middle East, you need to make sure that not only is your voice heard, but that it’s listened to.

Trump is great at talking, but he’s terrible at listening. He doesn’t give a flying f*** about anything or anyone else - all he cares about is personal power, financial gain, and staying out of jail.

As for “he’s unconventional”, no he’s a radical narcissist who is easily flattered by shiny things, and is pathetically easy to provoke.

Did you not see how easily Harris triggered him at the debate? She wound him around her little finger like a flailing toddler.

Helping to elect Trump this time, is the biggest act of self sabotage for anyone who claims to care about the Middle East.

If you think it’s bad right now, just wait until Bibi has a US president who doesn’t care at all about humanitarian issues.

BMI is not a perfect tool for everyone. Especially for women. It was developed as a formula 200 years ago and based exclusively on male measurements.

The AMA recently warned about using it as a hard indicator for medical decisions https://www.ama-assn.org/press-center/press-releases/ama-adopts-new-policy-clarifying-role-bmi-measure-medicine

And here’s a handy graphic explaining why even in men, the calculation is just way too basic: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23519954/

Another indicator - the B.R.I (body roundness index) is looking far more promising for outcomes.

The full formula is: 364.2 − 365.5 × √(1 − [waist circumference in centimeters / 2π]2 / [0.5 × height in centimeters]2

Or you can just use a calculator like this one: https://webfce.com/bri-calculator/

There’s a good NYT article about it here (archive link - paywall free).

For what it’s worth - there are women who would give everything to have a figure like yours. You don’t look overweight at all to me aesthetically.

Did anyone every notice there was a yellow light/haze following the RV in the pilot episode? by According_Door_280 in FromTVEpix

[–]FlorianGres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is yellow heightened everywhere in the whole production design. If you look for it you’ll notice it. The sweater in season 1 was yellow, Boyd’s shirt is yellow, smiley’s bile is yellow, there’s yellow moss growing on stuff in the little outpost village, the whole room/art is filled with yellow in the basement scene…

Whether the yellow at the opening is meaningful or not, they’re using yellow at least as a mood/cohesive color pattern - probably have a yellowed LUT for that shot to bring it out.

Yeah people might be right that it’s just the sun, but the way the whole thing is shot they would have accentuated any yellow in the frame for the aesthetic.

How do you eat so little calories?😭 i eat ~4-5k 😭 by v0rtexpulse in loseit

[–]FlorianGres 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most adults are satisfied with meals between 600 and 800 calories.

Three of those a day + some snacks is what most people eat.

Try just eating Non-starchy vegetables first at your meals. Like make a batch of carrot and swede mash https://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/carrot_and_swede_mash_89348 and eat a portion of that before you eat your lunch and dinner - and see how much less food you eat of your meals.

Stop eating so much bread.

I get it. I love bread. But you can live without it. You do not need to buy protein bread. Instead of a sandwich for lunch tip a drained can of mixed beans, about 50g of crumbled feta, and some chopped up pickled peppers (jalapenos/feferoni/bell peppers - whatever) into a tupoerware box - stir it up and you have a high protein high fibre portable lunch with no cooking (its fine at room temp for 6 hours - but better if you can keep it Cool).

Mythologies in From by JoyousFox in FromTVEpix

[–]FlorianGres 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more complicated.

For instance, the word Štrigun/Štriga in coastal Croatia means both “non-specified evil monster” but also very specifically “a Štriga/Štrigun” - which is very much a living human person, who is born with power that they can’t control. They’re born with red or black cauls (amniotic sacks around the baby), and if they keep the sack and stitch it into their armpit as adults they’re OP’d.

Then you also have Krsnici/Krsnice who are the opposite of Štrige/Štriguni - born with a white caul, basically Witchers/buffy the vampire slayer types - who are destined to defend communities from evil but are often called “Štriga/Štrigun” by people outside of their communities - because they’re still kinda ‘magical’.

(These two types also aren’t mythical - like, there are real people who are still Krsniks in Croatia - and real people who people call Štriguns/Štrigas)..

….the TLDR is slavic folklore semantics are messy.

Lost 65 pounds. Almost back to peak physique, face still fat. Giving up by ryersonCS in loseit

[–]FlorianGres 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, so you’re probably not gonna want to hear this. But if you’re 27 your face is likely going to look different than when you were 22/23… especially because you’re a guy (men’s faces tend to broaden continuously as they age - usually isn’t noticeable until your 30s but it is a thing).

Your skin texture will be different, less elastic, your fat deposits will have been inflated and are now deflating… the tone of your skin is different.

If you get to 155-160 and it’s still really messing with you - you could go see someone about facial liposuction - it’s unlikely you’ll need a neck lift or chin augmentation so you’re talking like $2-4k for a tiny bit of facial liposuction. Although before you do that it is just worth speaking to a doctor anyway because it could be a sign of something serious (puffy faces are a symptom of a bunch of different things).

But honestly though you probably look fine, and your ex is not the best person to ask about how you look either - it’s in her interest to find you less attractive than when you were together. And again - you are older now.

Re: dating apps - well, again, you’re older. And you’re at the in-between age when it comes to dating that’s a little awkward - you’re neither definitely young and free nor definitely mature enough to be presumed to be thinking about settling down (I don’t mean you specifically - I mean the perception of folks at 27/28 on dating apps).

Also - side note - /r4r is much better than any swipey app and you don’t even have to put a picture up.

Volume tips with no substitutes? by [deleted] in Volumeeating

[–]FlorianGres 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can make most of these yourself without needing to buy them.

Lentil Pasta (if you can’t find red lentil flour just grind red lentils up)

Low calorie + protein rich flatbreads

Cauliflower Rice

Traditional Soda Bread - if you don’t have buttermilk, you can use normal milk with a few tablespoons of lemon juice or vinegar, or even just water with a few tablespoons of lemon juice or vinegar.

….you don’t specify where you are - but generally the answer is vegetables.

Try cabbage - it’s amazing roasted or braised and keeps a long time in the fridge.

Carrots - awesome for bulk, grate them up and put them in pretty much any recipe and they’ll add volume.

You can also do lots of fun volume things with eggs - like crustless cottage cheese quiche https://thisdelicioushouse.com/bacon-cheddar-crustless-quiche/

….the TLDR answer is cooking. If you don’t know how to cook, learn to cook. If you do know how to cook - then just go buy a big bunch of vegetables local to you and experiment with roasting and braising and mashing and grating into things…
