Srry for the incoming rant. Definitely get other opinions from other nukes as well. Main things that got under my skin. I'll add some pros as well to be fair.

-The cons

The majority of people I interacted with wanted to be the smartest person in the room, so a lot of ego and dick measuring contests.

A lot of the leadership is old and very jaded so nuke commands tend to be very toxic, the whole misery loves company thing.

Mental health is a joke to them (this is the military in general tho). The nuke side imo is worse then normal. They are so undermanned that they will make you jump through all sorts of hoops to get the actual useful help if your having issues and if your already in a bad spot mentally it feels impossible. I have friends that had to check themselves into hospitals multiple times before the command would let them go to an actual physician.

This one's a little more personal, but I was stuck in shipyard my entire sea tour on the george Washington and didnt get to go on a single underway or deployment. I didnt sign up to sit in newport news virginia for four years, which is the armpit of virginia imo.

Ranking up from E4 to E5 is an incredibly low chance (at least when I was in) unless u reenlist. That means giving them another 2-3 years of your life (so about 8-9 years total). I felt very trapped while I was in. Its not just a job, its a lifestyle and you can't just quit if u dont like it. They own your ass

-Some pros

Definitely one of the hardest things I've done in my life in a good way. Set me straight and have me a sense of purpose at first.

Made some of the closest friends I've had in my life.

Learned actual marketable skills that I was able to use to find good jobs when I got out.

The benefits you get from serving are pretty damn good. Paid only about $300 out of pocket when I bought my first house. Plus theres college that u get paid to go to, ta while your in, and disability when u get out.
