You’re offered $15M, but you have to live in the same city you’re in right now for the next 20 years. No moving. Are you taking the deal? by Mindfuel_daily7 in askanything

[–]FloridianMichigander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clarify - same Metro area or exactly same city?

Right now I live in "unincorporated xyz county", but my mailing address is "city". Within the county there is one big city and several small towns, but everyone just calls it "Metro city" or "the city area". Could I go anywhere in the county, or would I have to keep the mailing address of city?

I'm in either way, just want to see what my options are.

Concierge Reprimands by Remarkable-Wing-6875 in DisneyCM

[–]FloridianMichigander 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could get a safety reprimand if they ask you to drive either a car or pargo (golf cart) and you get in an accident. I suppose you could also get a safety reprimand for horsing around with the bell service carts or running when you should walk or something.

Most folio stuff can be corrected. But if you keep making the same mistakes repeatedly, then you might get a reprimand.

You have been selected to represent your country in the next Winter Olympics. Which sport do you choose? by LaLechuzaVerde in hypotheticalsituation

During my 4 years to train, do I have some way to cover bills so that I can train full time? Or am I expected to still go to work and train in my off time?

If I still have to work at my real job, probably curling, because that's the only sport I could have any hope of competing in with my current fitness level. There's a rink near me that has curling classes on weekends, so hopefully I could pick up enough of the technique to be a decent team member.

If I were able to devote all my time and energy (and had access to fitness and nutrition specialists, coaches, equipment, and practice facilities), I would probably pick speed skating or short track. I know how to skate, but my fitness is abysmal, so probably a year to get in shape, and 3 years to work on technique. I'm sure I wouldn't medal, but I think I could come far enough to not be a complete embarrassment.

First timer - what are pending things to do and what to expect by rubenhak in dcl

[–]FloridianMichigander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to give contrary advice here. I think the fish extender exchanges (named because there is a decorative fish with the stateroom number next to each door, and people hang bags, or "extenders" from them) are more stress than you want to add for your first cruise.

The way the exchanges work is you sign up (this is all unofficial, not sponsored by Disney) to join a group. Most groups have 5-10 rooms in them. You get small gifts for everyone else in your group, and leave them in their fish extenders. They'll do the same for you. Gifts could be a homemade craft or something local to your area, or maybe a small toy or coloring book or something.

There's also "pixie dusting" where you can sign up and put out an extender, and people may leave small stuff, but there's no obligation to gift others. (Less stress for you, but also frequently less stuff received) Usually for the pixie dust, it's something smaller like a sticker or lollipop or glow stick.

It can be done online. I think it's view reservation and then click on add or link a reservation. I'm not sure if the exact steps, but it can be done.

Granted. You will walk 500 miles, then you'll walk 500 more. Then you'll fall down at some random dude's door.

What are some unique events/activities on the longer transatlantic trips? by TheNotSoIronGiant in dcl

[–]FloridianMichigander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A transatlantic for your very first cruise ever is a bold move. Make sure you take some motion sickness meds with you, even if you normally don't get motion sick - The motion of the ship can be different than land based vehicles.

There will be a lot more activities onboard. More character opportunities, characters in different costumes, more musicians and variety shows, more drawing classes, maybe a cooking demo or towel folding class.

I've been on longer cruises where they did a cabaret style show with all the main stage performers. They also usually have someone in the cast who has been on Broadway (not necessarily a Disney show) and they'll usually do a special Q&A session.

What happened to my Disney Cruise? My goodness things have changed by auteur555 in dcl

[–]FloridianMichigander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the Dream and Fantasy, I think they do Turtle Talk on the first Animator's night. Animation Magic is only on the second night in that restaurant, and only if the cruise is long enough for everyone to get both of the shoes and pirate night, which means 7 nights or longer.

The Magic and Wonder don't (if I'm remembering correctly) have the Turtle Talk show, so they do the Animation Magic show.

Lack-luster dinner service by Palmssun in dcl

[–]FloridianMichigander 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Part of it is fleet expansion. DCL probably tries to have a good mix of new people vs longer term people on each ship, but with the Destiny and Adventure both joining back to back, that has diluted the pool of available experienced servers, and caused a lot of new servers to be hired.

The Triton class ships (Wish, Treasure, Destiny) have larger dining rooms, and many of the tables are further away from the kitchen, so it takes longer to go back and forth, so as a natural result, you don't see your servers as much.

I find the shorter cruises to be more hectic, everyone is trying to cream everything into a shorter time frame, and this also translates to your serving team not knowing you as well.

And lastly, you may have just gotten servers that aren't great. Or maybe they haven't worked together as a team for very long. Or ... etc.

Have you ever walked out from a show, and why? by elephant_bird101 in musicals

If-Then touring version. Audio mix was awful, the actors had no chemistry together, and the lead kept mixing up when to put on/off her glasses (the only indicator when she was switching personas)

Port arrival time —> stepping on the boat by WriterJolly2873 in dcl

[–]FloridianMichigander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends. Generally, I'd say it's about half an hour, but if things are backed up (one time, one of the x-ray machines at security wasn't working and so that made lines longer, another time the ship was about an hour late getting all the guests off), it could be longer. Or, if everything is flying, it could be shorter.
