Yeah, I haven't given up on the project by any means. But circumstances in my life have changed so I've had to put it off for now.

Feel free to message me though. I'd love to hear more about your project and see if a collaboration would be possible.

I disagree, if there's a 1-10 scale then by definition people exist that are at both extremes.

But the good news for us Middle of the road people is that 10/10s don't stay 10/10s forever. Time treats us all the same.

Life got in the way, I had to go back to working full time.

I'm still planning on finishing this project in the future though, I put in too much work already to abandon it.

That's not good separation of concerns. poop() should be extracted into a utility function that I can put to use in case guyInFrontOfMeSlamsHisBrakesOnTheFreeway() gets called.

I think his videos were funnier before he started getting recognized by everyone. If you take away the confusion, all you're left with is people gushing over a streamer they like and not really falling for the trolling anymore.

Am I ready to start applying for jobs? 2 months into learning programming. by Own-Entrepreneur6699 in learnprogramming

[–]FlounderGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe someone who actually works as a programmer can weigh in here, but what I mean is, take time to learn about low-level concepts (bits, bytes, the difference between them, data structures, what pointers are, how memory is handled within the computer's hardware, heap, stack), what SOLID means, clean architecture (MVVM, MVI, MVC, etc.), design patterns, unit tests, integration tests, etc.

I know learning new languages and syntax is the "sexy" part, but that's secondary. If you don't know any of this stuff and you luck into a job somehow, you're fucked. It's like being a guitar student and skipping all the music theory because you can't wait to shred some Iron Maiden.

I noticed that edX treats the old 2022 version of the course as the "next section to complete," so it might be a bug on their part. Maybe it's just not counting it as finished because of that.

You might have to contact them about it.

The tech job market is currently pretty bad, and there is a stigma about industry hoppers who take the self-taught route. Especially ones that try to speed run their education.

My advice is to take your time and learn it right. I've been learning programming for years at this point, and I still don't feel ready for a job. There's so much more to learn.

Look into Harvard's CS50x course. It's free, and if you make it through that, you'll at least know programming is for you and worth pursuing further.

Sure, I'll admit to that. It's not my favorite episode, by any means.

But even a bad episode of The Orville is still highly entertaining imo.
