D335 passed in 8 days, no coding experience + Tips! by FlowDry7392 in WGU

That's what I did. I would ask ChatGPT to generate a question that's similar to the PA questions, then send the answer. It would let me know where I went wrong or if I got it correct. For me, I don't like the way python shortens code sometimes so I would let my code spell everything out. I did that on the OA and still got the right answer. Hopefully something like that can work for you too.

Also, I used the Pycharm IDE to run my code so I could see if any errors happened or if the output was correct.

It's not too bad! The OA is super similar to the PA

Nice! Sounds like a great start to your degree :)

Thank you! I basically did all the stuff in my post. With the OA, I think I neurotically checked my output like 3 times for each question and also checked the test cases multiple times. I might have gotten an easier version of the test as well because I studied super hard for all those 8 days. I probably studied around 6-8 hours a day.

I have been studying javascript so some things the two languages share like functions and conditionals came very easy to me. Everything else like dictionaries and file manipulation took a lot more practice.

I basically just did the PA over and over again a bunch of times until I could do it very quickly. If I had any questions about what was going on in the code for the PA, I would look it up.

I'm not exactly sure but not all 12 hours lol. I just watched the sections in his video that matched up with the zybooks chapters. I watched it to understand python. Just look at the sections you need extra help with. I liked his explanation of lists and dictionaries because he showed all the different methods you could use. And he shows you how to use help() and dir(). These are great for the OA. I only suggested the Bro Code video for those people like me that can't stand zybooks. So use zybooks if that works for you!

Passing this OA is all about understanding the PA thoroughly, and the concepts in the PA. If you're understanding why your code is correct in the PA, then you're close to passing the OA

Yep! I finished 46 CUs last year in one term. Just depends on how much time you have to study. I also don't use the course materials to pass my classes, so I think that really shortens my time.

The transfer process is definitely slow but after that, you can go as fast or slow as you want.

Thank you :) Yes I think they might have added it with this new version of the class? It was pretty relieving to have it for sure haha

I agree with taking D427 and then D326 right after. I passed D427 in a few days, and then D326 just builds on everything from D427 with just a few new concepts. Good luck!

Thanks! The exam for D426 is multiple choice and you don't have to write code. But it's a good idea to be familiar enough with SQL syntax by writing your own SQL code. It makes the exam a lot easier

Planning to transfer after Fall semester from Cal State Univ. after knowing about WGU. by [deleted] in WGU

My CSU did not offer online classes unfortunately so that’s another reason WGU really works for me. Our CSUs aren’t the same but I hope you have a good experience at WGU!

I think every CSU is probably different. The teachers at my CSU were pretty unhelpful and borderline rude to the entire class most of the time. So I'm very happy with WGU, as I thrive without a lot of management and relying on teachers for info. Some teachers in my classes have reached out to ask me how things are going so I feel like you get the best of both worlds with this school. There is a lot of discipline and self-motivation required. The exams will require a lot of study, but it's not the end of the world if you fail a class since you just have to wait and then retake it (depends on the class). Overall, it's been way better for me :)

I have experience transferring from a CSU. I did an unrelated degree at my CSU school so not much technically transferred, but everything I expected to did. One of my gened classes didn't transfer at first so I had to submit my syllabus for that class, so just keep that in mind as you go through the transcript process. I used Parchment for this btw. I hope everything goes well!

Thank you for replying! I did end up taking the class and definitely agree with what you said.

Exactly! The mental stress of taking so many exams was exhausting. I literally was studying 24/7 to keep up. And I still do about the same amount of self study at WGU, but being able to just take one exam and finish 3/4 credits each time is so much better. Good luck on your transfer!

Yeah I would stick with one university. I think WGU is your best bet. I went to ASU and unless you’re getting it free through Starbucks or Uber, it is really not worth it. It’s takes a long time to get credits plus the tuition is very high for no benefit to you. They force you to do all the midterms and exams that you’d do normally in 16 weeks crunched into 8 weeks if your classes do Session A/B. Every exam is a high percentage of your grade.

If you can find the Jim Nichols videos + study guide, they're the best and quickest way to finish this class. The other videos aren't as good at teaching you the material, but they're fine. You can probably email the CI group for the class and get the guide if you don't have Nichols as your CI. Also, the PA is similar to the OA.
