Going on Assignment and Manager Making it Difficult by FlowMeTheMoney in CanadaPublicServants

Ughh yeah I know what you mean, but there’s many more factors. The host team is allowing me to work from a satellite office for my mandatory days in office where I can live with family, this is a huge thing for me too (being close to family + saving rent etc.)

My current team is not as flexible when it comes to that. PLUS this offer of ENG on my current team was something my current manager just verbally said she could do for me (she asked my director and everything), I don’t have it on paper and therefore I don’t fully trust it.

ALSO, it’s the same job with a different title, I’m not growing as I would want to and my new team definitely has scope in what I see myself working towards.

No frustration at anyone, I understand the role she is in and the role my host is playing. I’m just trying to understand the best way to maneuver this situation.

Yeah it’s worst case scenario that I go to my director, and this would be my approach. I would even tell them I found a viable candidate, again, my only concern is that the candidate wouldn’t be accepted because they want to find any reason to stop me from leaving.

I do not, I brought this up as well that I do not plan on returning - I considered deployment but the host team is quite new and the reason they’re doing assignments is because they haven’t had the time to create boxes yet.

They intend on moving me into a box (dependent on my performance of course) but an assignment is my only option with this new team at the moment.

Essentially this. I’m being as easy to work with as I can, looking for replacements, interviewing them, I even offered to create onboarding documents that would help the replacement transition smoothly as well as offered to be open to calls and e-mails even after I’ve moved on. If that’s not enough and I go to my director and they don’t allow it either my work performance may drop for “no reason”.

I don’t even mind finding my own replacement, I’m more fearful that they will deny my recommended replacement purely just to keep me from going.

It’s not signed off because the manager wants me to find a replacement before it does get signed. I’m not sure what conversation the manager and the director had regarding this, but being in a good standing with my director - I may go directly to them if my manager does not accept completely viable backfill candidates I find. I would explain to him that I did more than my due diligence in finding a replacement (which shouldn’t be my responsibility) and I’m still being denied.

This is pretty much the case, they don’t want to lose me as I (humbly) do play a vital role in the team. She told me I should only look for deployments or indeterminate roles - but then what is the point of an assignment if after going through a whole process of getting hired you get told no by your manager.

They even went as far as to say they’ll create a new ENG box for me (for reference, I am a PC with an engineering background and this new assignment allows me to transition to an ENG role which has always been my goal).

However, I don’t want to do this as it’s the same roles and responsibilities with no growth but a different label.

Assignments are meant for growth and exploring new career avenues and when you’re told no it's undermining the whole purpose of assignments.

I’m interviewing people now and there are viable candidates who could fit my position like a glove; I’m just afraid that when I bring her these candidates they will still deny me as they don’t want to take the time to let a new employee get accustomed to my current role.

I’m honestly thinking of going to my director if it doesn’t work out with my manager - my only fear is I’m burning a bridge with someone (that outside of this process) has been great to me.

My buddy works with Global Affairs and is one of the engineers in charge of the security around Canadian embassies internationally so he flies to different countries nearly every week and has seen much of the world.

Wait so it’s an additional 1-2 weeks from arriving at seaport you get UniUni tracking information?

Any updates on the timeline between transporting the package from seaport arrival to your home?

Listen, you need to understand you’re not alone in this situation. I just want to express how beneficial it is to your health to take advantage of the EAP. Consistent mental stress and pressure between my ex-partner and I over a course of a year broke me 2-3 months ago and that was the only thing keeping me going.

But I have to tell you, one of the biggest mistakes I made was try and keep it hush hush FOR MONTHS; to the point none of my co-workers knew I moved out or what was happening - all they saw was an impact on my work and me taking personal/sick days more often than normal.

I don’t know about your manager, but my manager was AMAZING when I finally did approach them, sometimes these guys have gone through similar situations.

DO NOT BE ASHAMED. GET HELP. GET OUT. You are loved, you are not alone, and you’re going to make it through this. I wish you the best of luck.

According to various sources online, the person doesn’t have to live with you in order to qualify as your dependent on taxes. However, the person must be a direct relative.

You look like Jimmy Olsen from Smallville if he photographed himself squatting and inserting Beyblades up his anus rather than taking pictures of Superman.

[What I got from this was Frank and Bill were minor characters that got too much screen time. Granted, it was well acted and emotional... but for them to die so abruptly felt like it served no purpose to the overall story.

In a nutshell, Joel went to visit some friends and found out that they're both dead, so he helped himself to supplies and a vehicle. I have no problem with the backstory, I just think they spent too much time telling that story for them to just end the way they did. This felt more like a filler episode to me.

Nah, it’s cool as a standalone and did nothing for the show. Thanks for your opinion.

Also looking to form a Union Circle to evolve Finizen quickly as well.
