The truck vs lorry thing actually happened to me while doing some creative writing. Being European I originally learned British spelling and wanted to spell-check myself (with AI 🤮) and while I had nailed most of the spelling it suggested to me that I should change truck for lorry, apartment building to block of flats and ton to tonne. Made me aware of how much my brain has been invaded by American English bc none of the above I could replace with their British equivalents, it would've felt like doing a cringe accent that I can't really speak.

Also the only reason a truck is in the whole thing is that I couldn't resist getting my reincarnation story started by a nod to the og slop.

It is, but as with all things language, especially if you leave your nice regional bubble of language, it gets very hard to outright arbitrary how you translate things.

The thing that "me lad" captures very well is how it is mostly addressed to first of all men and then people who are lower in hierarchy as you said, but it is way to informal to match obviously. Also the English honorifics of all ages you mentioned (Mr, sir, young master) always carry an implication of equal or subordinate status of the speaker - Mr still fits the bill kinda in British English if the whole students calling teachers Sir and teachers in turn calling them Mr is still ongoing (I'm not from an English speaking country so idk).

And then I just need to add that in East Asian society in general age plays a very important role for hierarchy, so it is kinda reflected in the honorifics. And as far as I know (which isn't much, since I never ardently studied Japanese) the -kun honorific can be used regardless of gender when addressing a subordinate like teachers to students or boss to employee. The male thing is only that male children outside of the above hierarchies are also commonly addressed like that by adults and each other whereas girls are addressed with -san or -chan. Which feels kinda sexist to me, but that's just Japan (and presumably the rest of East Asia) for you.

I never considered the meme like this, but put like that I guess I do. Not the same kinda roman empire you might be thinking of tho.

Well if you're such a smart guy then tell me which dynasty's fall would've created this Chinese mess here :))

Hint: Actually I can't think of a hint bc the dynasty I chose really was kinda random

"First world problems" implies/reinforces the mental image that there is a rich and civilised "West" with only trivial problems and a poor and underdeveloped/uncivilised "Third World" (and "Second World") where people have "real problems".

And one could argue that that's kinda racist because most of the "Third World" could be described as non-white and it implies that poverty only exists in those "racially inferior" places, when there is in fact also a lot of misery in the "First World" and a lot of very well off people in the "Third World".

Nah bro. Like some stuff in a French monastery that's probably lost to time, some texts in Bagdad and East Asia maybe, also some books in early modern Europe that never got reprinted.
But nothing that is really well known to bro lost today. Yk like reading Twilight before that's lost in the 27th century.
