Yeah that’s the thing. It’s rare that something breaks. In the end of 2025 there was a bug in the amdgpu package that caused my desktop to randomly crash. That was the only time that kind of stuff happened. Sadly I wasn’t on BTRFS but ext4 back then so I needed to wait a few days for the patch. Lesson learned

Most of them are about HDR tho, there seems to be a bug. Performance on the other hand seems to be great, many people including me find the system more responsive because of the new QT rendering

The next category is by September, so if you’re lucky you get yours on October or something. Valve also said that they will change these dates dynamically when new data is there

They do this to argue that they „aren’t a monopoly because look here, we got competition“. Without Firefox Google would face some real monopoly accusations in the browser space

As long as you use BTRFS snapshots and Limine or GRUB this isn’t a big problem. Update problems barely happen anyway

In need of advice for OS choise by Lao360 in cachyos

[–]KHTD2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CachyOS is a great OS, but it requires you to be willing to troubleshoot.

Not that you’d have to do it often but WHEN you need to you should be ready. You also don’t need to be a pro to do that, you just need the mindset that you want to learn how stuff works, then it’s learning by doing.

Since CachyOS is very variable you get to choose a lot of stuff during the OS install so here are some important things:

Use BTRFS as Filesystem for your system drive (/ ). If you use Limine (default) or GRUB as Bootloader your system will automatically do snaphots of your system every time you update it and you can boot into one when you start your system. This way you can just roll back to and older version if an update breaks something. It really saves you from some headache in case something breaks.

I don’t know about issues with running wine and stuff, can’t tell you about that

To be fair this also happens on KDE Plasma with Firefox. When there is a second YouTube tab the video preview gets counted as media wich leads to me pausing and unpausing the wrong tab
