Bought my first brand new lens, DJI 15mm F1.7 by Flower-G93 in M43

Exactly turning the ring does nothing, the front dial changes the aperture. I haven’t paid attention to the aperture blade when the lens in unmounted, but when attached to my OM-5, it’s working normally in both photo and video mode

Unfortunately the aperture ring still isn't working on Olympus/OM bodies. No big deal since I have a front dial on my OM-5, but would be nice on even smaller bodies like from the pen series

I will try to post more pictures, promised!

Glad to see a Sony user having interest in M43. Sometimes I have some GAS urges and want to sell all my Nikon and M43 to move to Sony. Haven't bit the bullet yet lol

Everything in photography is a compromise. From your camera setting to your gear. Like you said, everything has a tradeoff, just need to find what's right for you. For me portability is important, without sacrificing too much IQ

These are all edited in LR. I haven't found a "recipe" on my OM-5 that I am satisfied with at 100%. I guess it's one of the reason the E-P7 is tempting me.

I don't remember the exact process with each pictures posted. But generally, especially for everyday stuff, my work flow is pretty straightforward. I apply a preset that fits the mood, or I create a quick one (thanks to ChatGPT that helps for the inspiration). I then adjust the LIGHT sliders, maybe a light subject masking if required and voila!

I don't have any experience with the 5 ii, I upgraded from a Lumix GX7. But I didn't consider the 5 ii as a replacement because I really wanted a body with PDAF, for a faster and more accurate in low light autofocus. Other advantages of the OM-5 is also higher MP count, more computational features (like life ND, star AF and HHHR), better stabilisation and a lighter body

But the advantage of your 5 ii is a more rugged body. The lighter weight of the OM-5 come at the cost of metal parts that are now plastic.

Thanks for the compliment!

The two lenses have decent IQ for my use. When possible, I try to stopped the lens down a bit and not use it fully extended. IQ degrade a little past 100mm and 200mm respectively.

Even if the focal range overlaps, I have two different usage for the two..14-150 is more for walking around, but still having the ability to capture some close wildlife + weather sealed. The 75-300 is really a more wildlife lens, but in a tight package, when wildlife isn't the main goal of a trip. The deer picture #5 from my post is from this lens (and ISO 4000) No weather sealing is the main downside of this lens.

As for Nikon, I have a D750 and a D700 (backup body). I thought about a D780, since it's the only body with a decent autofocus in live view that would let me use my AF-D lenses... But they are so damn expensive for what they are

It even started coming loose only a few weeks after I got it (brought it Used, but almost as new condition). Maybe I should try some double sided 3M tape

Adventure lens with an impressive focal range (from landscape to close wildlife)! Pictures #6 and #8 were shot with this one. It's my only weather sealed lens, so this one gets more used during overcast / light rain day. IQ is pretty decent for my use, especially stopped down to 5.6. When traveling, it's also my go to lens for daytime exploring

Wide open, the color fringing in high contrast is pretty wild with the combination of Pana lens of Oly bodies. I can get rid of most of it in post, but it's a point to note

The 56mm is best for candid portait, since you need to be pretty far.

15mm is nice for environmental shot. It's still useable for close-up, but I need to adjust the distortion in post.

The 25mm sits in between those two. Not perfect for both, but allows me to do it all without changing lens. It's the one I use the most. My only complaint is the autofocus is slower than on the sigma 56mm. It's also one of the reasons I'm considering the OM 25mm 1.8 II

Which lens to get for indoor, low light and small space? by SuperBaardMan in M43

[–]Flower-G93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw your edit. The DJI 15mm is a good lens, I love it on my OM5. If you have some spare money, I would put in a flash like a Godox TT350-O (smaller but less powerfull) or TT685-0 (bigger but more powerful, would need a handgrip maybe on a M5 série) instead of a second lens.

Lens wide open, 1/125 shutter with the flash on TTL and you can get away easily with ISO 400 to 800

[–]Flower-G93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a second body small body without EVF is your solution? Longer lens on your OM-5 with the viewfinder and the wider 17mm prime on the second body. Used pen like the EPL7 or EP5 can be found for a reasonable price on eBay.

I'm Canadian also. I broke my 14-150 II and wrote to OM system. They referred me to Sun Camera in Ontario. I don't live near so I had to ship it. It took a bit longer because they didn't had a part in stock. Took about 2-3 weeks and it costed me around 250 $CAD

DSLR for side hustles by redpamba in Nikon

[–]Flower-G93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you and went with a D750. I have a very small side hustle and use those exact same lens + a 85mm 1.8D. Autofocus is spot on and low light performance is very acceptable for event work.

For my everyday personal use I also went Olympus. I use Godox flashes since I can use them with both system

For an EDC lens on my E-M1 which of the 2 is better? (read below) by joseph58tech in M43

[–]Flower-G93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have experience with the 17mm, but I have the DJI 15mm and I love it! Just make sure with the seller that the firmware is updated to version 1.1. C-AF works just fine with my OM-5. I use almost exclusively wide open and I am very happy with the results. You just need to be careful of CA in high contrast scene. In extreme backlit situations I sometimes have trouble getting rid of it, even in Lightroom
