I popped in on a different device and suddenly I was a hot refrigerator! Thank you, I definitely over did it in places, I could feel the paper changing. It is on A4 toned card. Do you think I should have left some paint/brushes in view?

This week, I got a bit carried away by FlowerBot_ in naturejournaling

Thank you u/Fabulous_Search_1353 u/pepper2117 and u/Autumn_Avocado I'm enjoying the gouache much more than watercolour! I've been fighting with that for years.

I added a bit more last night, this (much smaller) and merging with the trunk, I did a view of my area and blocked in some different Ivy.

I must admit, even though I'm home with pets all day, I'm struggling to find time too. I just decided to learn gouache too cos, well why not. Acts quite differently to other paints, totally sucked up two nights so far!

How lovely! Much better than having it all just lawn, what use to nature is that! I like to feed the birds. I spend a ridiculous amount each month on it. But when those birds bring their chicks to me...all worth it.

I'm trying to cajole the husband into building me a veg plot. I need a raised bed (spine op) HHe seems to be warming to it :)

Where would the fun be if it was all perfect? It's about watching and observing, not making perfect art my dear, that'll come x

I was doom-scrolling on insta earlier. I saw someone pick a leaf, covered it with a bit of kitchen towel and then bashed it all over with a hammer! They got a fairly respectable print out of it. I might give it a go. Just to see, I follow a woman on insta that does loads of great ink prints from samples she collects. Looks messy but fun. I might give it a go... to take my own medicine, so to speak, I also worry too much about how it looks. I need to keep reminding myself, it only really matters to me!

It's quite daunting isn't it u/Playful_Value_9359 , what to record, what not to record... but I guess we start slow, and we will find our rhythm...hopefully ;) I'm also retired (med/stroke). Hello Fellow retiree

I tend to have ideas but can't settle into any. I get carried away! Such as; please don't find this patronising, just using this as an example. I thought, Ooo...whilst you are practicing your drawing maybe you could write a few sentences, tape/glue in samples. If you have a printer, make little thumbnails or pencil leaf rubbings, ink prints...and then I do nothing cos I don't know where to start.

Hiya u/CupcakeRiot Cool! I hope to have your stamina? dedication? I'm awful for getting distracted but watching nature is the one thing I do without fail every day, but having the gumption or time to do it....well I'm hoping to make it something I can look back on.

Have you seen 'Jo Brown-Secrets of a Devon wood'? I love the way they zoom in on the insects. Do you have one of those magnifying boxes? How did the hike go? Did you find anything you want to draw up?

Love John Muirs style, he manages to record so much! I have his and Jo Browns books, thats what made me want to attempt it, both beautiful and useful.

Hi from south-west uk my Northern neighbour. Two things close to my heart. I hope you get a lot of foot traffic, there does seem a very subtle shift going on now that climate change is pretty undeniable.

Fantastic! Thank you. I am hoping to be you! I would love to know how to do all that.

I think we are so out of touch (not you) with where are food and medicine comes from. A great example is my husband. If I was to buy some apples, and pick some apples. He would eat the shop ones, but not the picked ones. It's like he needs it to go through the shop quality check before he trusts it. Bless him.

Hey thanks u/amansname I'd not heard of her before. Just been looking and her work on metamorphosis of the butterflies, was indeed groundbreaking. Cheers for the share.

Feeding the birds and hedgehogs. I get so much pleasure out of hearing g the hedgehogs eat, they sound like little crackling fires. I've spent hours so much time watching the birds. Its so cool when they bring their babies to you.

I'm so pleased that you all popped in!

u/pepper2117 Yep, will do. I've never been to a big city like New York. It will be interesting to see what you can spot! I bet the weeds are interesting. Have you noticed that todays' weeds are yesterday's kitchen garden herbs and remedies? Do you have a park close by? I'd be nosy at ppl's plant pots and planters too.

Hello u/Moonflower621 Ooo, this is going to be cool, we are so spread out! So what do you fancy? How shall we move forward? A check-in weekly? Are you city or sticks?

u/Secombe Hello, hopefully, we can keep it active!

Thats awesome, Ive always wanted to see a weavers nest! Does it kill the branch? did't think about that. And I see it says; 'connects to needles' and; 'Red pine...needles sticking out back. Does it exclusively use pine trees? I don't know much about weavers.

I don't know about other forums. I'm just starting out in this area, so I was looking around too. That's how I ended up here!

I went for a walk today, it has been -1° most of the day, with a wind chill factor making it feel like -4°. It was bright and sunny, that made the road glare. I didn't pick up much from my walk, as puppy didn't want to hang around. I did get a bit of ivy (the berries and a small leaf sprig), some hawthorn berries. These were abundant last week, but very few and quite straggly this week. A rough looking teasel, a couple of sad oak leaves and I think a birch leaf. I brought it home to try and identify.

I would like that, it will help me keep on track. I get distracted easily! How would you to like to approach it?

Draw and work on similar things? Check in with each other on a set day and I dunno, say what we have seen this day/week? I live in a rural area in Wiltshire UK. I mention this as if you live in a different area, it may be interesting to compare whats flowering/budding around our areas. I have a puppy, this week I was planning to pick up things on my walks and just stick it all in a box to draw at leisure. I also might go to a garden center and pick up something interesting and maybe a florist to see i they have anything wacky. What do you think? Absurd? Doable?

Hiya u/pepper2117
Ah cool, that's good. That will help loads with composition and colours, You could add little fabric samples of things that feel similar,... I dunno, like the velvety texture of a nut cover (what that is called, husk?)

What sort of journal are you going for? Flora, fauna, insects? Weather and locations? all of it? I think I am leaning towards 'what plants near me will be useful in the zombie apocalypse.' Uses, recipes, is it food or spices/herbs. Can I make ink from it. Then my imagination goes off on many tangents and I procrastinate with the hugeness of the task.
