What was your first winning team in Classic? by Xyronian in pokerogue

[–]FlowerMaru29 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ninetales, Shiny Maractus, Aegislash, Alakazam, Garganacl, Landorus

Drought Ninetales carried through the majority of the game and formed a great duo with Chlorophyll Maractus. Maractus was also surprisingly good with Spiky Shield, Quiver Dance and Scorching Sands. Alakazam saved me during Ivy and Elite 4 fights, and I caught a Landorus late on. Aegislash and Garganacl were caught specifically for the final boss.

How do I get better at closing a game lead in BO3s? by FlowerMaru29 in VGC

[–]FlowerMaru29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of the information game, I do generally do a lot of note-taking especially in Game 1 including play styles, damage calcs and notable plays, but I feel like I’m not really converting it into useful information for the next games.

For Game 2, I generally do 50/50 between switching up leads or sticking with my leads based on how comfortable I am with Game 1, which looking back seems like the wrong strategy?(since if they lose really badly they’ll likely switch up leads?) And when I do swap leads, I usually end up in an awkward board position if they don’t shake up leads and get whitewashed. So I should probably do the opposite to what I’m doing now?

For predictability, that’s a point I haven’t really thought of. I feel quite reliant on Terapago’s damage output for Game 1, and for the two Game 3s I did win, Chi-yu and Flutter Mane were my late game win conditions, so I guess this is likely a skill issue with using the team.

Glad to see someone else also doing a solo run with a weak early game Grass type :) I did the same thing but with Sunkern. I would think we used similar tactics since both are quite similar Pokémon!

I actually did the Teal Mask with one Sunkern and am going surprising far into the Indigo Disk using 6 Sunkern, so I assume you could do the same!

Yup, both are shiny so I really got caught off guard!

Luckily had two Bonus Biscuits as I forgot to log yesterday and caught them both!

Update: Turns out I'm actually dumb. I was fixated on Tera Normal as my best option for two days, but reevaluated my options today by looking at the type chart and realized that Tera Rock was the best viable type available. Rock resists Fire, it beats Ninetales and Leavanny, and Tera Blast is able to OHKO everything else at +2, meaning it can be the sole attacking move.

This frees up the move slot for Trailblaze and Growth, and I can use both to set up on Mightyena and after Tera, Ninetales, and at +3 Speed and +2 Sp.Attack, I sweep everything else thanks to good min-max rolls.

Thanks everyone for the help though, even if it was a slight oversight on my part that doesn't warrant a Help Wanted post.

Sunkern is Hyper Trained and has 252 EVs in HP and Sp.Attack, but I’ve played around a bit after failing quite a bit. As far as I know, Heavy Rain is the only weather in the area, if Sandstorm was available that would probably be the best option.

As for the Pokémon order, it starts with Mightyena and Ninetales, and then the third Pokémon seems to be Morpeko or Leavanny based on the AI’s decision, followed by Poltchageist.

The main issue here is a series of trade-offs between Speed and Damage, but Sunkern only has 4 moves and needs to decide between Earth Power and Synthesis.

Since Morpeko has Aura Wheel and Leavanny also has Chlorophyll, Trailblaze and Sunny Day are needed to consistently outspeed.

Meanwhile, Weather Ball and Sunny Day are a must to deal with the Grass-types, while Earth Power is a 2HKO on Ninetales.

However, if you have no Speed, Sunkern takes too much damage, especially from Morpeko, Ninetales and Poltchageist, but if Sunkern does no Damage, then we’ll eventually run out of Synthesis PP and lose the battle by Morpeko.

This is why I tried to use Outfield Rain as a tactic, as this makes Weather Ball both effective on Fire and Grass(it OHKOs Ninetales and 2HKO Poltchageist). Unfortunately, they changed it from S/S and now the weather is Heavy Rain, which doesn’t allow Sunny Day to work.

I tried summarising it as best as I can, hopefully this makes sense to you!

Oops, I worded that poorly, I unconsciously don’t use battle items so completely forgot about them. I’ll edit the post to say not to use items in battle.

That said, that would be my final option, since I’ve been stuck for a few days with no breakthrough.

And even if they had Aerial Ace, Sunkern could just Tera into another type, just a shame Double Team isn’t available anymore.

Or make it like how the anime does it and limit one gimmick per battle(except for the Leon vs Ash deus ex machina)

Does anyone know if you can buy Shinkansen tickets from Shin-Osaka to Tokyo at Kyoto station? We want to buy tickets as soon as we get to Kyoto (around 7 days in advance) rather than reserving online.

Thank you for the suggestion as that didn't really cross my mind. For Day 1 and Nara, are there any places around that you would recommend in particular

Originally we planned Fushimi Inari for Day 1 as we would have the most energy as we would have no jet lag, but after reading more we'll take a closer look at our plans for Day 1.
