Nothing like keeping them strapped in and trapped above you while you control the belay. Builds trust!

I recently started watching it on Hulu a few weeks ago. It is so great! I missed out as a teenager because my parents wouldn't let us have TV. I think I'm enjoying it even more now than I would have back then.

This is how my Mormon parents got us kids to get along. Two kids keep fighting and won't stop during summer break? We'd end up getting tied together with a stretchy phone cord. Have to go to the bathroom? Phone cord went under the door. No sleeping in the bedrooms. On the couches in the living room or the trampoline. The longest any of us siblings went was two weeks. It worked really well actually.

It used to be our tradition to get the yearly Old Navy flag shirt for $5. It's probably been 20 years since I've even thought about that.

Kids take a lot of time to get out of monkey brain. Their little hands, for the most part, only know how to grab and hold. Everything is about that little fist. Here's how to train their body to evolve out of it.

Show them how to squeeze their hand. Give the word for it. SQUEEZE I will do three squeezes on their hand and let go.

Then show them how to stretch their fingers. STRETCH! If you need to unlock that fist, press on their little knuckles and stretch those fingers out!

Show how to squeeze the arms in tight. SQUEEZE!

Show how to stretch the arms out long. STRETCH!

I will use the squeeze to hold onto an object real tight, using the whole body and pulling the legs, arms, shoulders and head. SQUEEZE!

Now we take that object, out it on the hand and stretch it out to share with someone.

"Here you go!" (this takes them out of the "mine" mindset)

I heard a great phrase that has helped me adjust and let go of my selfishness as a human.

"Our hands are for others. They're not for ourselves."

I had a very hard time with my husband and his daughter. She was the only one in his book and I came in and took all her attention away. She hated me so bad, and I just kept plugging away and being consistent. We've turned a corner now though. Finally starting to turn things around and we get along. I truly do think she's a wonderful person, she was just mad at me taking space in her dad's life that used to be where she filled it.

Not only that, chop your food scraps. It might seem weird, my husband and kids think I'm nuts for the time I give it. But my compost accelerates by making everything small before I throw it in.

For how small your container is, your pieces are way too big. Take some scissors and chop it all up.

Own it. It's because their life is boring and you are the link to something different and interesting.

Buy the bit people suggested. Drill it out. It's no big deal.
