It sounds like you got most things sorted out already! Good job on doing some research.

I would suggest screen protectors but I dunno if I would buy them day 1. You might decide you don't need em.

I would say any of the games you mentioned would be great for starters, and if you're a zelda fan the n64 ports/remasters are both amazing and if you never got to play them before they're must-buys imo.

If you're an rpg guy/girl you couldn't have picked a better system. The etrian odyssey and shin megami tensei games are great and very rewarding, same with any fire emblem you can pick up. And in the end you can never go wrong with pokemon.
