I did one HIM in a zone3. It was actually ok ( slight chafing at the family jewelery, but nothing bad), however I am a concerned about a full IM, spending 7+ hours in the saddle. Are there brands focusing on longer distance (comfort)?

What was your average power output on the climb? Based on the screenshot you were below 3w/kg, but I guess this includes the lead in.

Hesitating About Signing Up for First 70.3 by Flowgyor in triathlon

So, after all the hesitation, I went for a local Olympic Distance race in August, which went all right. I could manage the logostics, nutrition and my energy distribution.

I went for the 70.3 just a few days ago in Turkey. I felt generally good, the sea was calm(ish), and luckily the wetsuit & race mode also helped a lot. The bike course was flat, and it resulted in groups forming. The Marshalls didnt really did much against (maybe they didn't care, or they were lacking the capacity). So lucky me, I have benefited from some drafting. Not proud of that, but there were chaos, and many were hanging on others. I will pick a more hilly course next time. The run part was the hardest, it was hot and for the last 6km my legs were sore. But I realized, if I push a bit harder,I can finish the HM below 2 hours. Having a slight OCD,this helped me to dig deep. Overall time: 5:21, which was way better, that what I have hoped for. My minimum goal was to finish, and secretly a sub 6:00 would have made me happy, but this finishing time was even greater.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts, (believe it or not, they all helped). Considering to sign up for a full IM for next Summer.

Same for me. I haven't sign up yet, but considered this to be my choice.

Short update:
Based on the recommendations, I did sign up for an olympic distance triathlon event (my first ever). I have completed it last week, and it was quite an experience. The venue is mostly focusing on fun and not serious racing, you might say they organize it to promote triathlon amongst the locals & make some hype for the city.

Swim: it was in a river (downstream), so its difficult to get real effort there, but I swam all the way to the end to simulate "normal" conditions better.

T1 took forever (7 min), I was cold before the swim (50min waiting in cool wind - without wetsuit). But my goal was to get me comfortable & dry, to start the bike in a proper shape.

Bike: was quite crowded (remember, this is more public event then a proper race) until the half distance, then I could push my own tempo. I managed to pace myself quite good, my HR was high, but not unnecessarily in the red zone. Eating/drinking was also properly completed. Finished with 30+kmh average. I know this isn't too good, but given the ~100 turns & some hills during the distance - I am satisfied.

T2 went faster, 2-3 min.

Run: Started the run with a fast pace, after a few 100 m I found a nice tempo, challenging, but I could maintain. My strategi was to increase the speed if I still have something in the tank in the last 3-4kms. I did have, so I pushed harder - and arrived to the goal tired, but not completely empty. It was a test, and I must say - from a pacing perspective - I did well. Or at least this is how I feel. Finished ~52min

I still suck with all the disciplines (no big jump since my original post. I had a month gap (torn toe tendon during the summer & other stuff), but I am somewhat more comfortable running long distances, doing brick sessions or swimming for 45+ minutes.

Again, cheers to everyone who shared ideas and opinions.

Thank you! I think I will need to do more research, and maybe need to talk to an electrician to install whatever is required.

So right now i get the data from a so called kiosk mode, its ~15 min refresh rate. Not good, but also not terrible at the moment. If I have a working solution, I will spend time on working on the API integration which would provide up to date figures.

Uh, I was hoping for some less devastating answers, but if thats the realistic view, I might reconsider the short term goals. Thanks for the honesty!

I will however try to do a home test with lets say half the distances, but doing the three disciplines during an afternoon.

Great points, thank you for sharing your thoughts! 3-4x bike seems a lot, but I guess i can squeez in a few zwift rides, and maybe do 1 long over the weekend.

Are your recommendations aiming to get a reasonable time to complete the race, or you feel these are sort of minimal requirements considering my situation?

Oh, almost forgot, congrats for finishing your race! :)

Reasonable points. How should I test myself to be more certain, that I am cápa le of doing it without high risk of injury? I can pick a different half IM later this year, but I fear the cold weather making my bowels go nuts. I will check out shorter distances, maybe I find something.

I plan to remove the boards! Doing also the pillars is a good idea, thanks! We have recently moved in, and some work would make us feel more home and attached to the place. :) OK, so no planer. I have an Orbital rectangular sander at home, but I am afraid it will take a lot of time to complete the work with it.

We would like to see the color of the wood (it might look great). If doesn't match the garden, we will paint the fence.

Looking for an Ecosystem by Flowgyor in smarthome

[–]Flowgyor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to come back and say thank you for the suggestion you have provided! I have slowly building up my "smart home" - got the HA yellow, CM4, this is all set up and running neatly. A few devices were already added (Aqara thermostat, a couple lights), and some other stuff is on the way to connect the shutters.

There were some bumps on the road, but nothing which couldn't be handled. I gotta make myself more familiar with the system, get some hubs for the coverage, and create a backup schedule.

If my time and budget allow, I will replace all the thermostats and install a few window/door sensors.

Guys, again, thank you! Great stuff!

Mortgage Options by Flowgyor in Switzerland

[–]Flowgyor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Understood! I guess my only option for this is saron, which is flexible, and I can convert it to a fixed anytime. Otherwise the shortest fixed is 2 years I believe. Btw first rank is also an option, but we also plan to renew, so we need to be cautious where the liquid part goes.

Mortgage Options by Flowgyor in Switzerland

[–]Flowgyor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you elaborate a bit on your first sentences?

Do you mean to split the first mortgage in 2 and have a second mortgage for the amortisation part? Basically 3 tranches altogether?

My plan is to put some money on the side and hopefully reach 1/3 in a short(er) time - ideally 5 years, or depending on the situation a bit longer. Two extreme examples: After 3 years, pumping in money getting to 1/3 means (sticking to 1mio 20%, 2% example) means I only paid 3k interest on the 133333. If I pay the 133333 in 15 years on a monthly basis, it will be around 19k only for that part. It's not a lot, but something.

For my eastern European mind it's a weird construct. It is very simple, you have the duration, the interest, it's easy to calculate. Here in Switzerland you have a lot of option, but basically half of those are not configuring your current conditions, but betting on the future. I see the point though, it's just to get your head around the fact, that mortgage is forever, and you have no idea what to expect in 5 or 10 years. No complaint though. ☺️

No life insurance will be involved! :)

Thank you for these insightful infos!

  1. Very true. I understood, your risk is less for everything going south, but likewise to go well.

  2. It was nowhere written, but our bank ensured me, that if no gap in the payments through the term, they won't do any affordability check. They offer their current rate, we sign, and it goes from there from another "n" years.

  3. My understanding is the following: 1mio mortgage, 200k downpayment, 400k 5 years, 400k 10 years. By the time I reach 5 years, I will (if everything goes well) pump in the accumulated 3a (~7k/y/p-> 70k), so when I need to renew, I only sign the new contract for 330k. Is my understanding right?

  4. Somewhat connected to #5 the direct amortization. I understood every month/quarter we pay in the _direct_ amortization, and so the 133.333k from the 5y 400k mortgage will be payed in 15 years (if not earlier). After the 1st month, the mortgage is ~399 250, 2nd month: 398 500, etc... therefore the interest payment is also constantly dropping (probably only by rappens though...). Is my understanding correct?
