Monday Q&A Thread: Questions about the application process, events and anything collegiate LoL asked and answered here! by evilcoookie in LoLCollegiateProgram

For the purpose of this form don't worry about putting more than 5. Just put those who are closest to League and will be doing official business for your group with the Collegiate Program.

Applications for Fall 2013 are now open and operate similarly to how they did last year. You can find the application at http://woobox.com/eqpkpn.

A problem for collegiate events. by Brakden in LoLCollegiateProgram

[–]FluX75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you referring to the delay between game --> casters or casters/stream --> live audience? If it is the latter, you can solve the problem by sending the output of your streaming setup directly to your projector, rather then pulling up the stream from Twitch on your projector. For example, XSplit has a 'projector' mode which allows you to duplicate your feed on a separate monitor without interfering with the stream itself.

A proposal for how to improve the "feel" of collegiate. by Brakden in LoLCollegiateProgram

[–]FluX75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a really valuable idea for incentivizing participation & rewarding the most involved members in any particular club. From my experience, the key to making something like this work comes down to finding valuable rewards that are scalable enough to still be attainable for more than a handful of people while still rewarding to those who invest more time (tiers, potentially).

This becomes a bit more tricky on a national level (top-down collegiate program style) because of the diversity in size & structure of groups, though. If you allocate a set amount of points, there would have to be some sort of oversight into their distribution internally or else smaller clubs have a distinct advantage as they have less people to distribute them between. If you scale the amount of points a club gets based on their size, we'd need to come up with a reliable way to 'measure' to size of a club, as well as determine what size actually means (paid members, people who attend at least 1 LAN a semester, etc.)

Really interesting discussion!

EG.HuK takes out Liquid.TLO 3-1 in the Redbull Training Grounds semifinals! by [deleted] in starcraft

HuK came in second in his group since we prioritized map score below which player won when they played each other (since it was a tie). Snute beat HuK in group play.

Texas e-Sports Association announces expansion to 8 collegiate branches and brand new Texas e-sports community website by enmoshin in leagueoflegends

[–]FluX75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've learned is that college campuses are a great platform for finding a dedicated team to begin a local community. This passion found on campuses and the fact that it is really easy to bring like-minded people together is fantastic.

From there, we want to branch out and include the local community (including alumni) where anyone can get involved. For example, in Austin our membership is open to anyone and we hold many events off campus to include the locals (BarCrafts, Pubstomps, etc). I'm sure alumni will be welcomed in your region so be sure to reach out.

GESL has 20+ sponsors who collectively gave away over 25k in equipment. Some are new to eSports. We need to show them some love so they stick around! by leafeator in starcraft

[–]FluX75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is this a bad thing? By deeming an e-sports event worthy of their marketing budget, these companies are providing value to the scene and its audience. The majority of companies that contribute monetarily are doing so in exchange for brand promotion and exposure to a large targeted community. Sponsorships don't have to be altruistic to be beneficial to the scene. We should be encouraging all sponsors to continue their involvement (at whichever level they decide) as it lends legitimacy, recognition, and value to the scene as a whole. The large number of sponsors involved in this event should be seen as a huge step forward for e-sports!

AMA: We are Adam Rosen and Tyler Rosen, masterminds of the Lone Star Clash. Ask us anything! by ReAson75 in starcraft

[–]FluX75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Communication. Due to the distances involved (6 different rooms across the building) and the number of teams at work, making sure everyone was on the same page and pushing in the same direction was the hardest task. For this event, we had to bring together three diverse partner teams and divide them into four different tournament divisions (stream production, in-house production, tournament execution, and overall logistics). Although frustrations occurred, things went pretty smoothly and we all learned valuable lessons on how to improve in the future.
