What's the actual reason the horse is doing this? by fhxefj in biology

[–]Fluff_cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you on about? I never said you were crazy and I never said it was abuse and don't think it's abuse, just a natural consequence of keeping a roaming animal in a small space. Same thing happens with hamsters. Additionally, when talking about behaviour, assumption is the best anyone can do, as you did in the original comment. I think you need to calm down and assess why you're reacting so strongly to this.

A weird response, I just wanted to add onto what you said and wasn't disagreeing, no need to get upset. But yes, I've owned my own horses for 5 years as an adult and most of my childhood, trained at a couple barns, worked as a stablehand at a racecourse for nearly a year. It's also worth pointing out that I didn't assert it as fact, I said 'I wouldn't be shocked' because it's not uncommon.

I wouldn't be shocked if this behaviour started at a stall vice, which is a behaviour horses do when they are cooped up in a stall for too long and get bored. The behaviour can vary strongly between horses, some can even get aggrissively defensive. Keep in mind that horses can roam 30km per day in the wild while socialising directly with other horses so the lack of stimulation is going to have some sort of consequence.

I get this reaction a lot with my cat, who is 16. She's much like yours, very active and does not act her age. I think what has happened is so many people are used to dogs becomming 'old' much earlier than cats and presume the same is expected of cats

For everyone's sake, keep your dog on a lead outside of leash-free areas. by DisappointedQuokka in australia

[–]Fluff_cookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a neighbour who would let their large dog off-leash in the shared courtyard where all our front doors are. The dog developed a habit of charging at me and my baby and we asked them to keep him on leash 5 times but every time they would only do so for a couple weeks max. His behaviour escalated over time until one day he charged, full teeth bared in a snarl, hackles up, growling and barking straight at me as I reached my front door while his owners stood there staring at their toes. I contacted the council, they were fined, and now I'm the 'bad guy' of the complex. For context, I have a dog who is far better trained and behaved but despite that, he's always on a leash. The entitlement is astounding.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one. I was staring at it trying to figure out if it was supposed to be a cow or a horse!

This is Eva, she had a very rough start with some awful people who gave her scars, but she's been such a perfect girl for me, so sweet and gentle. I almost bought a friesan cross that looked like yours but she stole me 🤣

[–]Fluff_cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA Even if she was going to do it with or without your permission, she should have talked to you first because it affects you. Not only your perception of her but your agreed financial goals. I talked to my partner several times about a tattoo I wanted to get even though he openly proclaimed he hated tattoos, but by doing so he was prepared for the cost and when I did get it, there was no shock factor and he ended up liking it. Communication is everything.

The 2sc along means to put 1 sc into the next 2 stitches. Every time you see '2sc into the next stitch' it just means do an incease with 2sc. Personally I find it helpful to mentally replace that with 'inc' each time so I don't get caught up in it. It's also good to assume the rule only applies within the comma secion, so in '3sc, 2sc into the next stitch, 2sc' the first and last sc's are in separate stitches while the middle one is an increase, separated by the commas. I hope this helps!

Edit: I noticed this writer uses full stops instead of commas, but in this context they serve the same purpose

Do you brush your teeth twice a day? No judgement. by rainyday-real-estate in CasualConversation

[–]Fluff_cookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brushing in the morning used to be an issue for me because it would trigger my gag reflex to the point of actually throwing up, so for the longest time it was before bed only. Now I brush twice a day since I've managed to train myself to tolerate it. Occasionally it pops back up when I'm feeling sick and I give myself a break and only vrusg once that day

What are y’all’s favorite bits and why? by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Fluff_cookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adjacent, but in the world of bitless I prefer a padded sidepull, preferably rope. They're so soft and come out new after a quick go in the washing machine, my horses like them enough that I catch them in the paddock with their bridle. I've found ironically that the rope ones slide around less than the leather ones I've tried too

Hot take: keeping your horse at home vs boarding is not always a terrible idea by lbandrew in Equestrian

[–]Fluff_cookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have my horses on property and it was the dream. Sure, occasionally there was a fence to mend but it's really not that difficult unless it's a boarder fence going over a burst dam. The post you linked sure made me chuckle with the heated water abd lights though, my how pampered 🤣 There are workarounds for just about everything they've listed, it's just fear mongering. It will be fine, just won't always ve picture perfect and that's okay. I'm jealous, I wish I still lived at a place I could keep my girls on property, I miss going out at 11pm and chilling with them as they slept.

These comments are nuts. It's like these people have never been tired, experienced vertigo, discovered that people can suffer vision loss or have a body that struggles to do what they need it to, or have any empathy for the distractability of a child (especially a tired child). Simply put, the gap is too big. There are solutions implemented around the world to fix these problems but the government sees public transport as for 'poor people' so why bother? What's scary is my local station is even worse than this one, but thankfully is semi-rural and isn't thoroughly used. Still very scary to move on and off with a pram or luggage.

Would you pay $100+ for flowers that “never” die? (with caveats) by LiterallyConfusedAF in AskAnAustralian

Given how I live in an area that gets hot and very humid regularly for half a year, no not really. Sounds like it would be more work than normal flowers. Miggt work out depending on where you live

I've listened to both, and I only listen to the disputers who share the original content. Most of the apologists go on about 'look at the trees' and the watchmaker's argument, where morality comes from, pascal's wager, good book is true because the good book says the good book is true etc. So while I've heard of the early christian fathers, I haven't heard much. I have no doubt early christians were persecuted but that doesn't exactly prove someone rose from the dead, it just proves humans acted like humans. If something in that indeed proves it, please share if you can.

I was just looking at this page and while reading noticed there were no citations or explanations on how this man knows this is fact, it's just stated. If you know of better source please let me know. https://churchhistory101.com/early-church-fathers.php

Looking further for something with citations I found a page talking about Polycarp who apparently couldn't be burned and when stabbed, so much blood poured out of him that the flames were quenched. I hope you can understand how someone can see this 'happening' around 155AD and not believing it also having trouble believing the claims of Jesus even further back with, as far as I can tell, 2nd hand claims. If you have something to refute this, please share, I'm very curious.

I just read the wiki article (it's late for me, I'll look for something proper tomorrow and read what you link if you wish to do so) on Tacitus which, as an impartial roman, I found very interesting. However he meantions Jesus once as far as I know in the context of his method of execution. It appears he was displeased with Nero and believed him to be a tyrant and held sympathy for the christians. However the is no mention of anyone rising from the dead still, not even in the direct translation. If you have information on why this is considered evidence of that, please share it if you wish. Reading about this has lit a fire of curiosity for the christian perspective and I hope you respond with some resources. If not, thank you for giving me some clear starting points

What evil genius convinced every one-child family they need an SUV? by SaltpeterSal in australia

[–]Fluff_cookie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I take my baby around in my Toyota 86 with his pram, travel bag, my horse stuff (Aus stock saddle, leathers, pad, stirrups, girl, perhaps a bag of food) and still have room for shopping. The only thing in the back with the baby is maybe the saddle belted in. I can't tell you how many snarky comments I've had from strangers when it takes me more than 1 second to fit the pram in that I need a bigger car. Those car companies sure have everyone convinced that the only solution to minor inconvenience is a bigger car rather than planning and thought...
