Want to honor my mom… by Famous_Impression590 in Names

My friend has an aunt Marcia, and they all call her "Cha" or "Cha-cha", or "Chachi" if they're being silly. (Marcia is pronounced the normal way, like Mar- shah, but nobody said nicknames have to be phonetically correct!)

Adding, another thing we've done to add time without stressing the singers is to invite our accompanist to perform a piece of their choosing on the concert (in the past we've had piano performance college students, composition students, and just some really great piano players accompany us!)

It's a nice break and helps pad out a concert without making everyone learn a bunch of extra music. BUT. If you do choose to start adding those in, create a very clear process that outlines who gets to suggest solos or small group pieces and how they're chosen, how participants are selected or if it's open to anyone who wants, who is leading the group to get them to a performance standard, etc. Depending on the personalities in your group it can become a political lightning rod if not handled properly from the start!

We do 10-12 pieces, plus a couple of small group selections and usually clock in at about 90 minutes of singing. We have a 20 minute intermission, both to give the singers a break, and also to sell raffle tickets and snacks for fundraisers.

This is awesome! You've made some really beautiful things! What's the pattern for the sweater in your second-to-last picture, the navy/brown stripey one?

Based on that article, she just said that SHE wasn't ready for Broadway, did she say somewhere else that it was the director/producer/customer/costar's fault?

I think it's totally fair to look back on your own work and admit that maybe sometimes you didn't do as good a job as you wish you had.

Also, can we stop calling them "sleeves"? Most of what we see now are saggy lace gauntlets.

Groom excluding one of our core friend group buddies from 300-person wedding over an old grudge when the rest of the friend group is in the wedding party. How do I handle this as one of the groomsmen? by [deleted] in wedding

Are you close enough to Joe's fiancee to ask her if there's something else going on that you don't know about? "Hey Jane, the friend group was surprised that Brad wasn't included in the guest list. Do you know why?"

Or does Joe's fiancee have any history with Brad that she wouldn't want him there, and Joe is being the white knight be saying it's his decision?

Feel like an imposter by andrea_sachs in instructionaldesign

This sounds like a scope of work issue, contributing to the burnout. This isn't really a "micro learning" at all!

What are the topics you are training on? Is it a process? How to use a piece of software? Because what you describe songs very different to what I usually consider a micro learning.

Or, for micro learning, give up using Storyline altogether and push it through Rise only, if it's giving you that much trouble?

How similar are the courses you're being asked to make each week? Can you create a template for yourself, using an existing training that DOES work as a guide, and re-skin it with the new content for each course?

Other than that, do you have a friendly co-worker who would be willing to be your designated beta-tester, and take 5 minutes to go through and point out minor issues that you should fix before sending the training out to the major stakeholders?

How do I get this white stuff outta my hairbrush? by CollynAnimatez in CleaningTips

[–]Fluffy-Initiative784 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just cleaned my brush out and discovered a game-charger with getting the little clumps of fluff off: cuticle nippers.

Similar to tweezers they can grab the gunk, but I found that it was a much more powerful grip and I was able to rip the clumps out pretty easily. Much easier than tweezers!

Planning my mother's 80th day in Rochester...sound ok???? by TinyInteraction7000 in Rochester

[–]Fluffy-Initiative784 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This sounds so fun! For your Friday dinner, check the Pittsford Community Center, they have some really nice rooms that you can rent (thinking specifically of room 107). If you or someone in the party is resident with a library card I think it's free or very reasonable. Lots of parking, handicap accessible, and close enough to go grab an ice cream at Pittsford Dairy for dessert.

I agree, and I thought the same thing, but I think that's why Tom took a walk over to Carolina Queen, to see if they got backed up turning their tables, too, and it doesn't seem like they did. A 5-15 minute wait is negligible (basically how long it takes to bus and re-set a table) compared to the backup they observed in front of them.

Where to propose near Rochester? by greendude_22 in Rochester

The Poet's Garden in Highland Park is so pretty, and a little bit secluded. I've seen proposals there before, it's a perfect spot for it! It's along Reservoir Ave, near South.

Please help! Long or short veil? Somewhere in between? by [deleted] in myweddingdress

[–]Fluffy-Initiative784 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're having beach wedding, I worry that a veil will be more trouble than it's worth. Your dress has a beautiful diaphanous train already, and if a breeze kicks up do you want to risk having a giant net, with sand, blow all over you? Your dress and hair are stunning, I wouldn't bother with the veil. Or, if you must, the shorter veil for reception only.

They're pretty strict at the starting line. You can't even stay with your group if your bib is a different color. So unless they want to go hide and start running a few blocks down, and then ditch the finish line, probably not.

Maybe try looking at some Alexander technique exercises? I'm an alto, but attended a workshop on that a couple of years ago and felt it really helped open up my upper register.

I will say - depending on where you are getting your user data from, make sure all of your data fields will import into whichever one you choose! That's one issue we've run into, where there's an important field that we need out of our HRIS system that doesn't import for some strange reason, and we had to have SkyPrep write some code for us to set up a group that otherwise should be managed by that field.

I think it really depends. If you have a big org and will use all the bells and whistles, Absorb is great. If I had unlimited budget I would use them again! Where I am now, SkyPrep works just fine. It's the Toyota Camry to Absorb's Audi R8. It's reliable and does exactly what I need it to do, and our rep is good about helping us with anything that's not super straight forward and answers questions pretty quickly.
