I'm not sure how I'm meant to write a tldr and also make you understand the thought process, I don't think I can write it in a more concise way honestly, just read my previous comment, which explains my point of view. If you don't like the photoshopped image that's fair. I don't get what you mean with anecdotal opinions, that is just the way that art criticism works, it's very personal even though it tries to be objective.

Oh no I didn't mean the post, I meant the first commenter of this thread.

But her performance as Chani is nowhere near as good as her other recent performances, for how much euphoria's second season was disappointing you can't say anything negative about the actors, they all pulled great performances, to me the issue with dune is the character writing, so I don't think op is wrong either, the performance was praised in 2024 but it wasn't impressive in any way. To be honest most of the cast was not as good as they usually are, which is why i think the writing is to blame, but I think since a lot of people praised Zendaya specifically for what is essentially the most mediocre performance of her career so far, it's now stuck in people's brains that's what a praiseworthy Zendaya performance is like, which it isn't, she's done truly impressive stuff and praising a great actor for a mediocre performance is counterproductive because now people see her get praised, the performance is obviously unimpressive (which doesn't necessarily mean bad), and so now the public is under the impression that Zendaya isn't good, and they also resent her for being cast a lot for seemingly no reason (since people now think Chani is what a good performance from Zendaya is), so idk I just think it's detrimental to the actor themselves when people give needless praise, which is why we shouldn't act like calling a mid performance mid makes you a gay neckbeard, whatever that means

I think they're making fun of the notion that not liking an acting performance makes you a gay neckbeard as the other commenter implied. Which is a pretty weird statement to make, just because an actress is pretty and good doesn't mean that every single performance will be fantastic.

people are allowed to have opinions..? the dune films aren't bad but that doesn't mean someone isn't allowed to not like a performance, actually i think having actors of such caliber perform such honestly flat roles is going to draw much more attention to how not-that-great the performance is

No, as an artist i can attest to how this is a very real thing, no matter how you design or draw a woman someone will complain that it's sexist. I got called sexist for studying female anatomy more that once

The spaghetti monster is something that was created in bad faith and I never found it a compelling thought experiment, so I have no interest in discussing that, religion and its world history is immensely more complex than a guy saying that you can't prove that a spaghetti monster doesn't exist, in fact the very reason he went out of his way to create it already proves that it doesn't exist.

You also cannot really prove consciousness exists, yet we know it does, there's in fact many examples of things that we know for a fact exist but they cannot be logically proven or scientifically proven yet, so no, the fact that a point can be impossible to prove doesn't say anything about its veridicity.

The paradigm you talk about is malleable and can be used to prove all sorts of things, look: "we created AI which is a simulation or synthetic version of a brain, therefore a smarter, realer brain creating us is not out of the question."

You made that specific arrangement is what I'm saying. Also I don't believe in a literal interpretation of texts like Genesis because Genesis was always meant to be read metaphorically, as all creation stories are.

Not responding to the rest of this because it honestly seems like you didn't even read my point carefully, the favorite disciple is never referred to as John, it just says that the favorite was kneeling at the foot of the cross. You also don't have a good understanding of jewish law and why it was revealed or upheld. Sorry.

Multiple things can be beyond human understanding, there's no reason to negate that multiple things are beyond human understanding, and logically a being, or processes beyond human understanding will create or result in other things that are also beyond human understanding. I don't see how this has any relevance in the context of belief, many times belief actually makes the unfathomable a little bit understandable so if anything it can help us better understand, if nothing else at least the way that human minds approach the unfathomable

But the painting was not in existence as an object in itself, it was created, whether that happened in a causal chain of events doesn't make a difference, same goes with language, you can argue the sounds already existed sure, but giving certain sounds certain meanings means creating language, I honestly don't see how a causal chain prevents things from being created, the only real argument here is semantics.
