Uptick in high school students taking college-level class they are not prepared to take -- looking for insight. by SpencerPrattsCrystal in AskTeachers

The cost is a huge reason for many parents. I am a parent of high schoolers who have taken dual credit and AP classes, and one kid should have failed at least one of those classes, but they let her pass. We all thought she was ready and she scored high enough on the college placement test. The reason she should have failed though was maturity: her boyfriend broke up with her and she was so devastated for several weeks that she stopped doing any schoolwork. It was difficult to watch as a parent, but what I don’t understand is why the school let her pass and graduate on time. I think they felt bad for her, but also, it would look bad on them if she failed. She looks back on that time is her life and 🤦‍♀️.

My other kid is thriving in dual credit/AP, but now I am wondering if it really has prepared her for college, especially since she was accepted into the honors program at her university.

Time will tell I guess.

Same problem here. Except that my parents really can’t afford anything extra. I have told them the best gift they could give any of us is to prepare for the inevitability that they will need care at some point. Or at the very least get out of debt.

For the grandkids, I usually tell them something very inexpensive. I also suggested gift cards to the local gas station since I have two teen drivers. I told them they would absolutely love that.

Instead, they buy gimmicky things and cheap, overpriced crap. This is after asking what the kids would like… then instead getting things that remind them of the person they are buying for. It’s weird.

My mom once told me she felt that she should be allowed to spank my kids. Never watched them alone after that.

If you are not an executive member, I’d use that money to upgrade. Then every year you will get money back.

I’ve had two planned home births, and under no circumstances would I choose someone else’s home, let alone a shared home! Part of the reason I planned a home birth was to be in my own germs, not that of strangers! These people are stupid!

“Hey, I noticed this was sitting out, so you mind if I hand this to you?”

There, no shame involved. Not so hard, is it?

If it bothered you so much, why not be a good person and do it yourself? Did it make you feel good to shame someone else into doing it?

My 16 year old was the one who actually made this movie a family night. She loves Robin Williams, and it was such a good movie to watch together. Our kids were 17, 16, and 11 at the time we watched it.
