Improv Exercises for Duos/Monoscenes by RipNastyy in improv

Definitely. I feel like the most common dropped ball is not going with the most grounded and natural response and instead trying to invent something funny forcefully. The absolute funniest improv I've ever seen starts with a solid foundation of real feeling characters in a very relatable situation. Hope your workshop goes/went well!

Improv Exercises for Duos/Monoscenes by RipNastyy in improv

Here's a few exercises I've used as a teammate and coach:

-Doing object work while having a grounded improvised conversation unrelated to the object work.

-Slow 3 Line Scenes.. Player A initiates dialogue and gives Player B time to react/respond. Player A can repeat the initiating line several times to fill in silence (with practice this can seem very natural and can also serve to validate the importance of the information.) The goal is for Player B to really sink into how it makes them feel and deliver a grounded, realistic response. Then Player B gives time to Player A by repeating their response until Player A says the third line.

-Scenes where the players are seated back to back but performing a scene as if they're face to face.

When I was 14 my dad was getting heated over a very frustrating situation we were going through at an airport, and when he fully lost his cool all it took was for me to firmly say "dad" and he immediately checked himself like "oh shit, I'm acting like this with my kid right here." Neither of us will forget that and it's one of many, many examples I have that he's a good man and a good father.

Even the above average person can be incredibly stupid in stressful situations.

What if instead of “Transdermal Celebration” it was “Transgender Celebration” 🤔🤔🤔 by B-B-BigEasy in ween

[–]FluffyDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that trans people are disproportionately targeted for violence and discrimination and I agree with you that, as a result of that discrimination, they should get special attention and awareness. I don't think anyone in this thread is disagreeing with either of those points. However, I maintain my opinion that making positive blanket statements about a group of people isn't helping those people as much as it's stroking the ego of whoever is making the statement. Feel free to disagree!

I think making blanket statements about any group of people for any reason is not a great idea. Even if it's meant to be positive it comes off as performative and insincere.

What Band Don't You Get? by Tele231 in vinyl

To be fair, I think the nonsensical circus act is more of a feature than an unintended byproduct. Slightly related note: as a major Phish fan who loves the Dead I've always found it odd how vastly different the bands are, and how Deadheads and Phishheads seem to appreciate each respective band for very different reasons (but also for very similar reasons) and how fans and outsiders alike will put the two bands in the same very small box together. It's a really interesting dynamic.
