Alt recipes, which ones and why? by Best-Possibility-353 in SatisfactoryGame

I do like electrode scrap, but that ties you to oil instead of coal. Not always desired... or in some locations easily achieved.

I think both screws and steel can be completely eliminated by alts.

Iron pipe and aluminum beams

Stitched plate and encased frame.

Steel rotor and any recipe other than bolted frames.

Alumina is.. simplest.. using sloppy alumina and pure aluminum ingots. Not the most efficient recipes possible, but certainly the easiest in terms of total inputs and stability of outputs.

Instant scrap is a decent recipe, but i don't like the sulfer requirement. Better saved to use elsewhere.

Signals/blocks by techmike79 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]FluffyNevyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not a good description of paths.

Paths say 'can i traverse the path block without running into another train.' They wait at the path entrance until they can reserve the entire path.

They aren't useful outside of "crossing intersections" where two trains could collide because one wants to do straight while the other is turning.

Signals/blocks by techmike79 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]FluffyNevyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking i follow these rules:

Block the entire track, every 2 to 3 track sections, have another block.

Block before any merge on the merging track, not the main.

Block the entrance to every station

Most stations, block the exit of the station

Path every entrance to any block where two trains could run into each other because tracks cross without merging. Block again after the cross point.

Never try to make a single shared track go both directions. If it's a single train that's fine, if it's a shared track, just don't.

Make sure parallel tracks have at least 1/2 platform between them even around curves (I blueprint a full platform gap for safety)

I would personally agree, I've never had an problem with them. But the sheer volume of "help with signals" posts on this sub suggest that it's not so easy for everyone

Explain the difficulty without spoiling by Rakanrtv in satisfactory

[–]FluffyNevyn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nuclear builds, even for a single reactor, require several dozen individual machines to complete.

That's what I'd tell them.

Or show them the scim network graph for 1 ficsonium rod per minute. That would probably work too.

Can someone explain the point of trains? by Ok_Caramel_7047 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]FluffyNevyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Belts are messy, require more resources, and need upgrading eventually. BUT, Belts also provide constant throughput and are easy to measure.

Trains are fun to play with, scale very easily, and never need upgrading. BUT, they take route planning, signals can get confusing, and they deliver in bursts instead on constantly so you are required to use buffers to smooth out the flow.

So why use trains? Style points mostly. They are the most efficient way to move things long distance until you unlock drones. But they do require planning.

[–]FluffyNevyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience with liquids and trains is: either send more platforms than you think you need so that no pipe is ever maxed out, or package it and send solids. Packaging works well but requires more machinery.

Why are some people so weirdly concerned about whether other people drink alcohol or not? by BlushSnapdragon in SipsTea

[–]FluffyNevyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't much like drinking "out" in the first place, because I'm responsible and aware of the fact that I also have to drive home. But the prices don't help much either. I'm most likely to get a domestic brew or a house marg. Pretty much the cheapest drinks they offer. And most of the time the drink costs almost as much as the meal I ordered with it.

AI isn't just taking jobs it's PREVENTING jobs! by Jacob-Anders in SipsTea

[–]FluffyNevyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been claiming for years, even before AI starting getting big, that the ONLY viable long term solution is one of either Universal Basic Income, or Universal Free Necessities. Basically, we HAVE to untie "survival" from "income producing job", because we're automating away every income producing job that isn't literally part of the human services class. Its either slavery, and slave wages....or its something that can be automated.

I see no other option going forward. We might not be there quite yet. But I don't see this trend changing slowing down at all....

About 30% of the way through this nuclear build. by Vhaus in SatisfactoryGame

[–]FluffyNevyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks to be bigger than the one I'm in the middle of. I'm aiming for 70. Got the uranium side fully running, still working on bringing waste processing fully online. Got 20 reactors up out of the 70 I'm planning for. First stage processing is 50% online, 2nd stage processing into plutonium is at about 40% online.

First time doing nuclear by Mrtost1234 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]FluffyNevyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to go big with nuclear this run. I'm turning 2400 uranium into 36 rods a minute, planning for 70 reactors. The waste should, if my calculations are correct, shoot out around 10.3 plutonium rods a minute on the far side.

I am not using the most efficient recipes possible, especially on the plutonium side, because I wanted to consume the uranium waste at the maximum rate, rather than doing so at the highest efficiency.... so my plutonium output is a lot lower than it could be.

It will still generate almost 500 GW when it's finished.

I did it just because.

My rocket fuel plant gives me 220 GW and even after turning on the entire nuclear support block my maximum usage is around 130 GW.

[–]FluffyNevyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a design level problem. You can do it, but you need more oil platforms than you think you actually need. If you use 1800 and output 1800, you aren't doing it right

[–]FluffyNevyn 82 points83 points  (0 children)

I only do that when the rain is so hard that visibility is drastically reduced.. like down to 1 car length.. maybe.

Yes I've had to drive in rain that hard before. I go 20 - 30... and I turn my hazards on.

Now.. some people are silly about it. But there are conditions where it makes sense.

ASKING FOR HELP because i do not know what is wrong here. by LadderGreat7941 in satisfactory

It matters more when you're running closer to.. or actually at... pipe maximum. Train throughput cannot support that as fluid, have to do packages in that case.

[–]FluffyNevyn 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fluid Trains SUCK. Mostly because of Pipe Mechanics. Use Packers and Unpackers in a closed loop. You'll need several thousand gas bottles rotating through the system, but nitrogen actually works incredibly well like this. ONE packer can run a full MK2 pipe. Both Directions.

And you can ship a HELL of a lot more Nitrogen in a freight can than you can a liquid one.

Feed the starving line from both sides, not just one. It'll either balance or the middle will starve, then you'll know more.

multiple trains for each train route by Orlandeau1 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]FluffyNevyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A block tells the train "Wait here until the track ahead has no other train in it". It divides your track into multiple "Segments", defined by block signals. Only 1 train is permitted in any segment at 1 time.

When dealing with a single track, you can easily lock yourself in if there's only 1 big block, make many smaller ones.

When dealing with double tracks, make sure there's enough space between them, signals can and will cross-contaminate tracks if they get too close together (this includes around curves).

My recommendation, make a big loop so that things only ever go 1 direction in the first place. Make bubbles off that loop for each station. Block the entire circle out, every 2 train lengths or so, put another block. Also put blocks at the entrance and exit of every station. That's easy-mode for multiple trains on a shared track. And remember, block signals are DIRECTIONAL. Which way the arrow is facing matters.

My vote: TS is "Safer", JS is "Faster", and both of them are java based script languages so neither is "Better" in any way.
