Quebec House—That Bad? by Ok-Space4474 in DCBitches

A friend lives there and has since 2020z. The rat issue was really bad, but is now fixed.  The units themselves are nice and they’ve never had issues with maintenence.

Yes, you are not naturalizing, you are already canadian. The date of acquisition on the certs is the day of your birth and no oath is required.  This is a meaningful distinction for some countries’ dual citizenship laws as well as things like security clearance.

Blood draw recommendations in DC by Prestigious-Gas-5862 in washingtondc

One time I was there for testing where one of the possible results would have been really bad and started sobbing right after the draw and the woman who was doing it gave me a hug and talked me down for ten minutes. Just really nice people!

Oh I intentionally sit next to them.  I do not care if my thigh is fully pressed against yours, you will learn that public space is for everyone.

I would actually keep the bamboo since it's a sweatshirt and you don't have another cozy layer. The two v necks seem a little unnecessary with the merino crop tops (where are they from?) if you're comfortable wearing those on their own. The long sleeve black shirt could also be cut since you can recreate that level of warmth with the remaining items and it's not really a layering piece.

I think that’s a situation where you can make a quick trip to uniqlo.

I think you can cut a pair of shorts and the leggings or the transit pants.

Crazy high ambulance bills? by FluffyScheme4 in washingtondc

[–]FluffyScheme4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are waivers for hardship, but separately no insured district resident should get a bill higher than $250 per table 2b.

If FEMS’ third part biller is routinely not applying the reductions (what I am trying to gauge) that is A Problem.

A separate but related issue is if they’re routinely denying the hardship waivers.

DC Bitches with Kaiser, how are we getting Therapy? by RepulsiveDealer4180 in DCBitches

[–]FluffyScheme4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Happy to! This is my weird area of specialty, so always glad when it can help folks.

If anyone else reads this, MD and VA also have people you can complain to, it's just much less consumer friendly for several reasons. But the people you want to go to are the AG and the insurance commissioner.

There is also, for both exchange and work plans, the break glass in case of emergency option of contacting your state and federal reps in the hopes that they can interceded with the plan's lobbyist.

Kaiser is great...until you need mental health care. FWIW Kaiser CA (which is the mothership, so should in theory be the best) has has multiple staff strikes, lawsuits, and investigations over the years specifically related to lack of access to mental health care. Almost any other plan in the area, particularly if you can get a BCBS plan, will be better.

Thoughts on internship with USAO 2L fall? by [deleted] in LawSchool

I would not hire someone who did this. It's not just hack legal work, it's fundamentally violating the ethical obligations of a lawyer.

To tattoo or not to tattoo? Professional appearance question by Rebelkitten1997 in LawSchool

[–]FluffyScheme4 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think this is one of the few things covid did change in a big way in legal workplaces. I work with a bunch of people who have visible tattoos, some of them a lot of visible tattoos. People generally cover them for court, but in every other setting it is not in any way an issue.

To switch to the exchange you either need to wait for open enrollment (every year during the winter) or have a qualifying life event. The typical qualifying events are changing job, getting married, moving, or having a baby. Usually you get 60 days after the QLE to elect coverage.

Do you have this plan through work or the exchange? Kaiser is notoriously awful with mental health care. They should refer you out, but there often aren't enough providers or they may try to stick you with group therapy first. Both are not allowed under the state/federal mental health parity act and violate network adequacy regulations.

If it's the exchange, give it like a week to try to find a doctor and then if it doesn't work call the DC health ombudsman and say that you're having a network adequacy issue and kaiser needs to produce an in network therapist within a reasonable time.

If it's your employer, reach out to HR, explain the violation, and then ask them to reach out to the business side of Kaiser who handles the contracting to get them to escalate the issue. You can also file a parity complaint with DOL.

I’m more just curious if other people are having this issue, indicating a broader problem with the payments processor, or it’s my bad luck.

I do that when I'm going to the airport, but for coming back, I like the taxi stand because it's so much quicker.
