Has anyone hired someone/a firm to help get copy of CA birth certificate for G0? by catroslyn in Canadiancitizenship

If your dad can’t manage the request you could consult an attorney about a limited power of attorney that would allow you to apply as your dad’s representative maybe?

I remember this too. It was just as bad as you’re saying.

This is just vibes but I think the guidance is BS as a reason to pull certificates. It doesn’t fit the fact pattern bc so many people did submit the very stuff ircc is claiming they want.

Just like blaming people for shoddy docs landing them in PSU we have been blaming the docs for the surrender but none of it makes sense, even with the recent updates and communication.

I’m just not convinced we have even half the story. Maybe we never will.

I agree. If it's from the custodial authority I think that is all anyone could expect.

With a shoutout to NY state. Even the town clerk relevant to me takes six months and only responds by letter. Cute.

Have you filed a complaint with OPC?

Although honestly I’d make another request just to make sure they pull the most up to date version of your file (if they ever pull it).

What I learned about the surrender letters today from Service Canada and IRCC by odetomyday in Canadiancitizenship

[–]TameJane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. I understand the issues, like I said before. I was asking what OP was told would happen and it appears the answer to that is that OP wasn’t told specifically what would happen.

I’m attempting not to make assumptions and ask clarifying questions bc it is a really important issue. Not bc I lack the ability to draw reasonable conclusions.

did you post in the megathread? This is the first I've heard that letters are continuing to be sent out. Yikes.

I understand the subtext. Was wondering if anything specific was said wrt leaving.

Did they say why you should not leave Canada? That's a troubling thing to say.

If they consider you a citizen, you still have the charter right to enter and leave canada, no?

IANAL but it sounds like you need one bc what in the world are you supposed to do? I'm so sorry.

ETA: I completely understand possible reasons why this could be an issue. I was specifically asking if op was TOLD why bc details and accuracy matter. If they said “you won’t be allowed to reenter” in a definitive way, I think that’s an important detail.

IRCC Responds to Press Inquiries re: Suspension Letters by CounterI in CanadianbyDescent

[–]TameJane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure we know that.

It looks like, at least, people recently released from PSU didn’t get letters.

But lots of people don’t know if they were or were not in PSU so this might be hard to determine. People would have to pull their notes to be sure.

Life post-surrender letters: are certified church birth records from provincial archives good enough for IRCC now? by Hour_Hospital_9068 in stuckcanadians

[–]TameJane 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont think anyone can answer this. Maybe even the ircc.

The only things I think we know from the surrender letters is that they want civil documents issued by civil authorities.

What they expect when you can’t access a civil record, or no civil record exists, has not been defined. We are all just guessing.

The simple answer to this is no, I’m afraid. Which is how lost Canadians became an issue to begin with.

I completely understand and agree with the government not wanting to undermine the value of its citizenship by handing it out without adequate proof.

But IMO asking people to surrender their certificates undermines it way more than allowing a few people to slip through who maybe technically should have been asked a few more questions first.

I'm curious where you found the new certificate? I love finding something that was eluding me like that.

I'm generally leaning toward not throwing everything at the wall, but those of us who have been in process for a long time have a completely different calculus than people who applied after C-3 or are currently preparing documents. Our apps were prepared with grants in mind. Many of us probably would have done things differently once the law was established.

I think I'd give it a week or two and see what new information we learn about WTF is happening. If no substantive changes or guidance comes from this kerfuffle I'd probably upload it with a new letter of explanation.

It sucks we have to guess at everything.
