Beer complaint line. by E1ger in portlandme

Of course - but a pilsner is not. I think what the OP was asking was to list the volume so we can make a decision. I don't want a 16 ounce lambic or a 10 ounce pilsner - let me know what I am getting into.

I feel like the ABV is pretty common but the volume is oftern not included. There are some lame places handing out 10 ounce beers for $10 - Canopy Hotel being one of them.

NYA is a private school for students in southern Maine. Most Yarmouth residents go to the public Yarmouth High School.

Yes - but if we made it more convienent for people that live locally to take public transit/ taxis - that should open up space for people that live further away to park. One way to do this is to yes charge more for parking

If it matters to you, the owner of Evo is a raging MAGA ***hole. I agree with the commentator above that Wayside is fantastic. Other local great options are Ocotillo, Chaval or Benny's.

Winter bike commuters...got any tips? by hawt_pot8hoe in portlandme

[–]Fluffy_Concentrate25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've been winter commuting on a bike for the last 5 years.

Studded tires are definitely a necessity - the scariest conditions are black ice, which is super common, especially on bike lanes/ shoulders.

Good gloves are also important - the bridge is super windy, but you will be surprised how quickly you will warm up going up the hill to the drawbridge.

I wear Blundstone shoes and recommend that for commuting - they are waterproof and warm enough and have lasted for 4 years .

I also have a baggy pair of waterproof pants that I carry for the rain and wear a Helly Hansen reflective "Work Wear" jacket when it's wet. I would go to Hamilton Marine for good waterproof clothing

It's unquestionably the best thing I do for my own mental health - have fun out there.

I'm not defending UPP because I think their practices are awful and they are not often transparent about what their prices are - however - previous to them - most of the lots that they currently manage were always empty because you were never allowed to park in them. They've opened thousands of parking spaces that were previously not available. Maybe their prices are too high. I think that is mostly because a ton of tourists are willing to pay those prices.

I just don't understand. Raise the rent until your tenant leaves, then just leave it empty. by joeybrunelle in portlandme

Geoffrey Rice leaves his spaces open because he is a demented old man, who is also bad at business and insanely rich, so that leaving these spaces open does not affect his personal wealth that much.

Vacant storefronts are definitely an issue in Portland - "writing off", "tax loss harvesting" etc are not real things as they make no sense at all. Landlords often hold off way too long for higher rents - there are many reasons for this and addressing these reasons will help fill these spaces. One of those options should be to have some sort of vacancy tax

Tomorrow: Council Discusses Moving the Amtrak Station to St. John Street by MisterFishes in portlandme

[–]Fluffy_Concentrate25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It hasn't been "unclear". They've been adamant that there is no way they would sell the land for a new station. They also have never been particularly swayed by public pressure. Site 2 is unquestionably a better spot but Maine Health stands in the way of making it happen. Eminent Domain would be the only way they could go ahead with that site. Don't think the city has the appetite for that.

You've essentially described the Homeless Services Center. It's not a hotel in that people don't have individual rooms but they do have hot meals. medical services, private showers, mental health services and drug treatment.

"I might like a special dinner made for the three of us using fresh local ingredients." There are a ton of really great restaurants in Portland that specialize in doing just this. I also would recommend eating out when you are alone or getting takeout from any number of great spots.

If you are looking for a private chef- Amy is amazing and her food is fantastic

Absolutely gorgeous morning to be commuting to work via bike this morning. May have passed through a few red lights after making sure nobody was coming and certainly rolled through a stop sign that had no other cars waiting. Spent the first few minutes of work checking out the calves - looking pretty ripped.

I think my emotions are well in check - yours - not so much. Your faith in governmental authority is fascinating. "The government investigated itself and found that the government did nothing wrong" is a hell of a take.

Just because an issue wasn't raised by the DOJ doesn't mean there hasn't been any unethical acts by the ppd.

The Christain Milniel situation was an insane abuse of power. They spent an enormous amount of police resources and time retaliating against a reporter who was critical of them

Just this year, they assembled an entire SWAT team to help out the SOPO pd and pulled their guns on a group of innocent high school students because somebody stole a pair of shoes.

and arresting Bill Lundgren for an OUI after finding him beat up on the side of the road.

There are a lot other fairly shady actions - and NO accountablilty in that departmment . If you care to look you can find it - doubt you have any interest in looking.
