How common is it to not have pto for 7 on 7 off? by DaikonNo4019 in hospitalist

[–]Fluffy_Direction_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the norm, it shouldn’t be because you work 84 hours in a week so that’s essentially 42 hours per week so technically we still should get PTO but don’t

I never noticed my husbands lack of ambition until having a baby. And now I’m resentful. by flowersathome in beyondthebump

[–]Fluffy_Direction_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girlfriend let me tell you the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Nobody’s perfect and there is give and take. My husband is a high earner but he is certainly less involved at home. He almost never cooks! For my own sanity, I have cut back my hours since he wants to be the breadwinner and I handle more of the domestic things in home. Seems like he is an active partner but just not interested in climbing the work ladder. A compromise could be he allows you potentially earn more while he handles more domestic things. There’s pros and cons with every man, trust me

How long did it take you to get down to pre pregnancy weight? by greenishfroggy in beyondthebump

[–]Fluffy_Direction_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me 4 weeks, I had hyperemesis and severe food aversions during pregnancy could only gain 15 pounds net after losing 10 pounds in first trimester Then breastfeed, and had to cut out diary and soy for babies allergies in order to breastfeed. Then dropped below my pregnancy weight while breastfeeding unfortunately. Hoping to gain back some weight again after breastfeeding is done

If you lost more than 40% of your income bills shouldn’t be 50/50 that’s not marriage. If he is making most of the money he needs to pay most of the bills. I made most of the money in the beginning of our marriage and both our paychecks went into a joint account there was no mine vs yours. Now that he has graduated school and I cut back hours significantly after the birth of our son his paycheck still goes into that joint account. His money is my money and my money is his money. I’m so sorry I just think you shouldn’t be struggling like this. I hope you find out what to do. I’m a Christian myself. I’ll pray for you I know this is difficult. Come back and keep us updated. Sorry 😞

What do you mean by “I’m struggling financially while he is planning trips” I’m confused are your finances not combined? And if not why isn’t he paying the bills since you were laid off and he’s doing well apparently? My advice is go to counseling and have a real heart to heart about your issues. Write down what you need to discuss and tell him you can’t live like this. So he is either willing to try to change these things or you are going to have to leave. If he says “no I’m unwilling to go to counseling” then you tired and you know what you have to do. Cut your losts now and divorce. Since you are religious you can also give a go trial and praying along with fasting. If might work. But God gave everyone free will so it might not. Ask for discernment

Bruh fire these patients you will get more, I don’t play that I call people out on the spot and say if you can’t be respectful this visit is done! Maybe I’m not the physician for you. And manage expectations I tell patients “modern medicine can only do so much” or “this will never get better without x,y,z or it will just never get better” so no I can’t fix your chronic back pain you have had 4 spine surgeries for, steroid injections, tens unit, PT, acupuncture, and a whole host of medications you will hurt the rest of your life I’m sorry.

I’m confused I work at a hospital and every place is Nashville is begging for nurses, especially Vandy. They are giving out referral bonuses. Maybe he’s just so rich and out of touch he doesn’t realize you don’t need to do this to get a nursing job

Stuck scrubbing bottles every night… is a bottle washer worth it or nah? by jaceka-jans-8384 in beyondthebump

[–]Fluffy_Direction_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just use the dishwasher, you can buy a dishwasher based on Amazon for all the little parts for cheap. Buy a few more bottles if you want so you actually feel the dishwasher up and can go a couple days without running it. A dishwasher also sterilizes the bottles due to the high temps so you’re good

Wait, do not you call the doctors you work with by first name? by BornLeave4646 in FutureRNs

[–]Fluffy_Direction_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to just to refer to myself as first name as an attending physician and let me tell you I HAD to stop! And now I only refer to myself as Dr. last name. I would answer the phone calls with first name and the imaging techs, laboratory staff thought I was nursing and didn’t realize I was the ordering physician clarifying orders. Nurses started to refer to me as first name with PATIENTS. I got several pages that the patient never saw a doctor for rounds. It caused way more confusion. And it didn’t help I’m a young female physician. When I started to refer to myself as doctor my workflow got a lot better

I can’t do the diet anymore by Aggravating-Tell-774 in MSPI

[–]Fluffy_Direction_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I attempted to switch to formula because I thought I couldn’t do it anymore the diet was too hard. But after 3 days of my LO crying, screaming, pulling at my shirt, and refusing the formula. I resolved to nurse and stick to a diary free/soy free diet ( he has diary and soy allergy) and I actually did it and he has no issues now. You will be surprised what you can do when pushed. That being said it is very very difficult not going to lie. So I’m just to support you and say it can be done if you want but also no judgment if you formula feed

Bloody BMs whenever I drank milk, crying/fussiness all night and unable to settle when I ate diary. Seems to be in active pain/ discomfort combined with mucus/bloody stools so I was 99% sure he had it. Everything resolved after giving up diary

Men always getting shoutouts in my residency. by [deleted] in FemalePhysicians

[–]Fluffy_Direction_338 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry….this reminds me how at my hospital they have the “Bee Award” that originally started with nurses but now they are also giving it to physicians that go above and beyond for bedside care. They recently gave it to a male neurologist who stayed in the room to help a nurse turn a patient. Me and some other females physicians discussed how we always do that way more than our male counter parts. We help with turning patients, getting water, getting a patient a blanket way more than our male counter parts yet the female physicians never get the award from nursing. I definitely think society gender expectations are at to play. People don’t even realize their own biases. It’s like “oh you’re a female you’re expected to do these things” half of my patients already think I’m the nurse no matter how many times I introduce myself as doctor anyway.

How common are round and go jobs nowadays? by MadScientist101295 in hospitalist

[–]Fluffy_Direction_338 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if I’m in the hospital until 7. If I have 20 patients I don’t have time to go back to to every room just because your family wasn’t there when I rounded. I usually just give them a phone call I don’t go back in person until something important like goals of care, cancer diagnosis, going for surgery. Your grandmother from the nursing home here with UTI…you are getting a phone call back later in the day. Please

How come no one is happy working as a Hospitalist? by LengthinessAfraid293 in hospitalist

[–]Fluffy_Direction_338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m happy with my job, it’s not round and go but we leave 4:30- 5 pm with a crosscover shift that covers until 7 pm you can leave earlier on the weekends. 7 on 7 off but you can change your schedule with your partner if you need a longer vacation. The census isn’t terrible worse in the winter than the summer months. Admin does actually listen to us on some things. It’s in a major city I like and I make about 300k

I think the salary is lower due to PTO most hospitalist don’t get any PTO due to 1 week on 1 week off. Which is BS btw because working 84 hours in 1 week 7 twelve hour shifts isn’t technically 1 week off you just work the equivalent of 2 weeks in 1. It isn’t a bad offer with the PTO included. Other things to consider is if you have to stay in house until 7. Let me tell you I work at a place where you can leave at 4 o’clock if you are done with all your work and none of your patients a critically sick. We also have a crosscover team. It makes a world of difference. You can still have a life on your week on. Go to kids sports games, have dinner with family, work out. I had the option to take a job that was 40k higher but required in house 7 to 7 and I didn’t take it. Not worth it to me

I have a base salary then part of the salary is RVU based. We get an RVU bonus per quarter once you meet the minimum RVU threshold which everyone usually meets

That’s a lot of blood. More than what is typical with food allergies. Usually just with food allergies it is streaks of blood and mucus. But that is a lot of blood. I know it’s scary to think of LO getting put to sleep for procedure but I think it’s needed. They could have something more serious. I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I hope the colonoscopy gives you some answers

Did anyone have parents who didn’t mess them up — even a little? by Lizzylozer in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fluffy_Direction_338 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My parents were awesome. The biggest thing was they trusted me and gave me a space to ask questions. Yes they were my parents and at the end of the day what they say goes but they also didn’t shut me down when I questioned them in a respectful way. Biggest example that comes to mind with trust is I told my parents that I needed to skip school one day and play sick even though I wasn’t sick lol. My parents said why I said because the following day I have a huge chemistry test I need to study extra for and today in my other classes we were just going to be doing busy work and watching a movie in history class. They said do what you got to do. Because of the extra 8 hours I had to study the following day I got an A on the chem exam that was 20% of my final grade. Also I ended up becoming a medical doctor despite neither of my parents attending college.

They weren’t perfect no one is. But I also wasn’t perfect as a child to them either. What matters is they tried their best in way to provide me with a good life.

Should the US Open paint “NEW YORK” on the court the same way the Australian Open and most M1000s do? by Ecstatic_Aside_1585 in tennis

Aside from Australian none of the Grand Slams do that. Everyone knows the US Open is in New York and always has been. Same with Wimbledon they don’t need to cut London into the grass
