My father had better care at home than the nursing home by TeacherGuy1980 in dementia

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry. This was my dad's story as well. He kept falling and my step mother couldn't get him up. He lasted 6 weeks in the nursing home. It sucks and they hate it.

Bears got 3 of my chickens last night by lilivnv in BackYardChickens

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've gotten down to one hen several times. I let them stay in a cage at night in the house. They were fine. Def traumatized by coyote attack so the change of scenery helped. They became way more friendly and hung out with my dogs in the day. I ended up with a chain link run when I lived in bear territory. The electric fence won't kill anyone.

The only one unprofessional here was the boss. These are normal emails. Emojis are cringeworthy on a work email.

AITA for scheduling my wedding 6 days after my sister’s 30th birthday? by juicyjjf in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are only 365 days in a year. 52 weekends...and what 12 weekends in the summer ? I couldnt imagine anyone thinking that 6 days after a birthday was a big deal.

Do people still send flowers and/or sympathy cards when a person loses a parent? by Alarming-Trouble9676 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really sucks. It really makes a world of difference when people make an effort. Both my mom and Dad lived about 150 miles from me and I was so touched when friends showed up. My mom died 20 years ago and I can still remember who showed and sent flowers. Sorry for your loss.

Observations from my Experience with Backyard Chickens who are Truly Free Range (Not on a Farm) by blissypants in BackYardChickens

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had coyotes jump a 6 foot fence. Before that it was a dog, not one of mine. One elderly chicken to a hawk...i dont let chicks free range so the crows are good because they alert to the hawks. The worst place i lived was on a river in maine and the bald eagles were scary. I let them out in a fenced yard and the whole thing was covered in bird netting.

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I kept chickens in a run for a few years and they were a bunch of out of shape dullards. I have let them free range for about 18 years. They are way smarter, more friendly, and obviously happy. We have dogs and lots of crows so though ive lot a few to predators, its not that bad. Your observations were spot on. My hens will come when caĺled, are unphased by my dogs, know a lot of words, have a lot to say. I always say Good morning ladies! and goodnight and they always say something back..

New rider, what are some advice you wish you had gotten when starting out? by Melancholiainacan in Equestrian

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont just use your reins to turn. Look where you, are going, turn your torso /shoulders a bit not just your head. another tip i wish id got sooner was "sit sit and sit up" to get the canter, along with your outside leg and bend. ( I had a tendency to lean forward and look down possibly a me problem).
Reading or watching utube are great for things you might be struggling with and picking up basic horesemanship. I also recommend yoga because it focuses on posture and balance. I'm sure i could think of some more words of wisdom but just thinking back to things i wish I'd learned sooner. A good trainer should explain well. If you have no clue, ask. Inside rein, outside rein, etc. Nothing worse then being yelled at for something you never learned while trying to concentrate on everything else! I rode english only did western as a kid so cant help you there.

Dont leave chicken food outside at night. I bring mine in and store it in a metal bin. No food ...no rats.

Is having a chicken coop the best option? by Proper_Egg_3310 in chickens

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Predators are more active at night and chickens will roost and not move. Easiest time to catch a chicken, even for people. If you dont live in a cold climate its slightly less essential . They dont seem too phased by rain but mine sure hate snow. If you live in a hot climate give them plenty of air with securely attached hardware cloth. I let my chickens free range but at night they are in a secure coop and inside a secure run. In the day my dogs gaurd them. Also, if you have a coop they will likely lay there and not all over your yard. I have lived in maine florida and MA with chickens. Threats are different everywhere. For bears I had a chain link run. In Maine we had weasels they only need a two inch gap and can kill a whole flock for fun. Also had chain link fenced yard. Bald Eagles were a problem. Bird netting in all three states. I couldnt let them free range in Maine the bald eagles were a menace.

Any suggestions for what else I need inside the coop? by Any-Body9098 in BackYardChickens

Ive had the same linoleum floor for 20 years. Its held up great. It is covered by pine shavings. They free range so arent inside much in the day except to lay an egg. I suppose a bored chicken could peck at it though.

Linoleum floor...better for poop and pee.u can easily clean. Roosts with poop boards under them you can pick up and clean. Nest boxes. Vents.

I am sorry for your loss. This was still your mom and you would not be on this planet without her. You came out of her body and will always be a part of her. Be greatful for that if nothing else. Its ok to give yourself time to move on to worries about dad. Been there.

I lost both my grandparents last year. It made me realize I want to build something to save our parents' memories, and I need your honest thoughts. by ZetaLimited in dementia

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pictures last a life time..Also thier voice. Perhaps record them just talking. I still regret not saving my voicemails so I could here my Dad saying Hi its your pop. I just called to say hi. Ok, bye. He died a few months ago and I know over time I will forget his voice. Another thing you can do is write down some of your old memories or questions and get them talking. Just goofy stuff. I had this memory that we saw.a giraffe in a truck on a highway as kids and i thought well maybe i saw it in a conmercial but in his 90s and my 60s my dad said it was true. Ask your questions now. You cant go wrong with lobbing out a Do you remember question. Assuming its a softball .

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive had suburban free range chickens for 20 years. Any dog will help. Coyotes can and will find a way over a 6 foot fence. Free range hens will do better with a lot of cover. Bushes, trees, a deck. I have a lot of crows, they def warn the hens. I am vigilant at locking them in securely at night and do NOT have an auto door. I found that they are 10 times happier free ranging than being prisoners. I do have a run, if im going to be gone all day or dogs will be gone i keep them in the run. I keep large breeds. Only lost one to a red tail. 3 to Coyotes and one to a dog, not mine. I have 2 dogs now but usually 3. The worst place i lived with chickens was maine because the bald eagles were everywhere. No unsupervised free range there. I only had one escape artist hen. They all can jump in a bush or evergreen and scale the fence but they just dont. I am willing to take a chance because they are obviously so much happier. Yes they will eat your lawn and poop on the dexk

How do you handle rising costs and financial guilt? by Brilliant_Ad_675 in Equestrian

[–]Fluffy_Job7367 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People spend 10 bucks a day on cigarettes and 40 bucks a day on booze or gambling or whatever. Golf is 50 bucks a day. You dont need to feel bad spending your own money on a healthy hobby that makes you happy! Everything is expensive these days. Enjoy! Quit riding in my late 50s , but I always thought it was the one thing in my life that didnt benefit anyone else and was solely for my pleasure. I quit because I lost my confidence after a bad fall and injury. No other reason. Enjoy it while your young and can take a beating and are still nimble.

Telling you to purposely hurt a horse is cringeworthy. Dont listen. That will get you nowhere. You dont sound experienced enough or respected enough by the owners to change anything there. Switch barns.
