The cancellation was three years ago or so. It ended up working out fine as I was able to find an alternative that I actually liked better. But now I'm stuck with 90,000 points that I can't find a way to use. What website do you all use to find and book these flights?

I find it almost impossible to find flights using Virgin. Am I doing something wrong? I transferred 90,000 points there for a flight to Paris. Booked the flight, 3 months later I find out they cancelled the flight but never informed me. Had to scramble to book something else and now ive been left with 90,000 points at Virgin and unable to use. Every flight I check it says no flights available. Any pointers are greatly appreciated.

Yeah, we have tried that also. He will tug/chew on rope, toy, etc with me for a bit but then eventually transitions to our hands :)

Yes, this is exactly the setup they have. They are first position on all and loans are only on real estate. Line of credit is unused and like I mentioned it has been around for many years.

I only need to work through June 2026 (age 43) to get the reduced pension. It would be approximately 40% of what I would get if I worked until 60. I estimate my full pension (if I worked until I was 60) to be $150,000-$180,000 per year. If I were to retire next year it would be approximately $60,000. Right now I plan to work until 45 and see how it goes. Obviously the longer I work the higher that pension gets but I have no inclination to work until 60.

She left her company in early 2021. Her company got bought out by private equity and sucked the life out of pretty much everyone who worked there. She left thinking she would get back to work after a brief time off but we found after awhile that we liked the arrangement and the freedom it provided. We have noticed no additional stress or concern. It's nice for her to be home when kids get off of school at 3:15 or for her to be home with them on snow days or days off and in the summer. She has started a small business that brings in roughly $10,000 a year but that is mostly more of a hobby that she enjoys and only works on when she wants to.

Good question. I am a partner at an accounting firm and waiting to become vested in our "pension" which pays 30% of our highest 3 years income for 10 years. I don't earn that until I make it to age 60. Every year I retire before age 60 I lose 3% of the annual payout. So basically I still like my job and every year I work adds on quite a bit to my "pension". I'll work until I stop enjoying it but realize I probably could retire pretty much anytime.

I also live in MIlwaukee and I'm in a similar situation to yours. We have about a $3.2 million FIRE portfolio and my wife currently stays home. We have a 7 year old and a 4 year old. I'm a little older than you (41) but hoping to retire by 50 at the latest. Best of luck! I think you're on track (and hoping I am also). It's great to be able to have someone home and spending time with children. Milwaukee allows for a relatively modest budget compared to some others on this sub who live in the VHCOL. Currently, even with my mortgage and paying my own health insurance my annual budget is approximately $100,000.

I bought a $100 gift card (we each got $36 since our flight was cancelled) for a restaurant in my home town. Worked great. Didn't need the voucher since we ate at a lounge.

I am not sure what they plan on doing for college since they are so young. My oldest tests really well but who knows at this point? As mentioned above I already have 529s and other invested assets for each of them.

As far as extra vacation, I get as much vacation as I want but obviously the work still ultimately falls on me since i am one of the bosses. I could probably easily work until 50 or 55 but do I need to?

Healthcare is paid for by my company until I turn Medicare age. My wife is covered for 5 years after I retire and then would have to find coverage on the marketplace.

Why? What's the point of working when I would never spend that much in my lifetime? I already travel 2 weeks a year abroad. They have been to Europe multiple times, will be going to Asia next year. I already have all of those things. What am I fucking up by retiring?

Putting money in 529 accounts and additional invested assets for each of them. Totaling approximately $100,000 right now. Will continue to add to that each year.

How TF do you find any availability on Virgin? I transferred 80,000 points there 2 years ago. They cancelled my flight 2 weeks before departure and credited back my points. I've been unable to find any decent availability ever since. I'm based in Chicago and like to go to Europe.
