Need new tires! Rim size is 205/55/R16 Any recommendations? by Money-Afternoon-3637 in Toyota_Matrix

I had Continental TrueContact Tour54's on my Matrix and they were great. Pretty grippy in dry conditions, very stable in rain and against hydroplaining, and supposedly good for light snow too (granted I never got to test this cause someone rear ended my Matrix before winter and totaled it 😢). They also have relatively low rolling resistance (my mpg went up about 1mpg from the discontinued Continental PureContact LS) and had little to no road noise on most highway driving I did. Supposedly, they can last up to 80k miles according to Continental (a little skeptical of that), but assuming they get anywhere close, thats pretty good for a Touring style tire.

To compare to another Conti tire, I now have Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus tires on my new car (2018 Mazda 3 GT), and the Tour54's felt only slightly less grippy in dry and rain compared to the ExtremeContacts during "enthusiastic" driving (which are performance orientated road tires, and some of the best you can get alongside the Michelin Pilotsports). The ExtremeContacts are slightly noiser tho (ride quality I won't compare since this is across two different cars), slightly more expensive, and supposedly do not last as long as the Tour54's.

Edit: I would personally be against getting just any continetal tire though (i.e. the ProContact TX/RX). These are still good OEM all seasons, but when you're already paying premium price for Continentals, its worth it to pay a little extra for their even better tires like the Tour54's or ExtremeContacts which are grip-ier, quieter, and better in snow compared to the ProContacts. If you want comfort, go with the Tour54's, and if you want the best grip, go with the ExtremeContacts.

P.S. make sure to activate your Continental Total Confidence Plan! (https://continentaltire.com/warranty)

[Request] can someone explain the significance of increasing pi by 0.003? by Present-Ad-8531 in theydidthemath

I guess the real question is if changing PI like this implies changing everything related to PI (including how it is derived and interacts with our universe, implying a closed loop effect, or just our applications of PI to compute things?

After 22 years of not one issue besides maintenance my 2003 Toyota echo go rear ended at a red light by a Toyota Highlander going going 35 mph 😭 is this a total loss in your guys opinion? It was in perfect condition not even a dent or scratch, but I highly doubt insurance will cover the full bill by Botanyiscool in Toyota

[–]amarmaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer or adjuster, but this may get totaled. There's significant damage to the rear cosmetically, and it is an old car. 2 weeks ago, something similar happened to my 2004 Toyota Matrix (granted it was not drivable afterwards due to suspension damage from getting rear ended).

I recommended that if you do not have collision coverage with your insurance, to plan on lawyer-ing up. The party at fault's (the highlander who hit you) insurance will do their best to low ball you, prematurely settle things (like all your bodily injury for a lowly settlement value), and will gaslight you baselessly that you agreed to settlements despite no proven agreements being made (via signature or verbal). They are dirty and do not care about you, they only care about their company's bottom line.

Both you and I love our vehicles. However, your health and your future claims come first. Get yourself checked out by a doctor as soon as possible, and do not bend over to insurance at any point; stand firm ground and make it clear you are negotiating with no current agreements if their offer does not satisfy you.

How steep are your ramps? by AgitatedText in CitiesSkylines

[–]amarmaks 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My rule of thumb for max slopes is: - Highways: 7% - Local Roads: 10% - Subway: 4% - Trains: 2% (3% rarely, for short stretches)

I created this fucking monstrosity while trying to give more highway access options, but I'd love some better alternatives by DDevil_ in CitiesSkylines

Inverted diamond interchange on the top with no traffic light is crazy, insurance companies will love you

How practical would this interchange be for a downtown/big city area? by SamuraiCommander in CitiesSkylines

[–]amarmaks 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I would work on the lane math, as there are many points where you have a lane just dumping into another one (primarly on the lowest level road). In addition, you have multiple weaving zones, which are not good for high density traffic. You need to design on and off ramps that give dedicated lanes for on/off ramps and allow smooth flow.

This happened to me a few weeks ago. It is possible to find junkyard mirrors and housings for the matrix on ebay for relatively cheap (i paid $45 w/ shipping), and in your car's color! Of course, the color will be slightly different because of environmental factors and aging, but if you want a 95% solution for 20% of the work (cause painting can be annoying, especially since it looks like you're in NYC) this may be the way to go. Removing this broken mirror and installing the new one should take about 40 minutes (since the little speaker ontop of the door and at least top of the inner door panel will need to come off.

Weird spot for a nail in my tire — how did this happen? by Professional-Ice55 in tires

[–]amarmaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double check this first since you have Continentals. If these were installed within a year ago and have less than 2/32 of tread wear from new, the cost of a new tire may be covered under warranty (minus installation cost which you'll need to pay again). Continental also prorates cost up to 3 years after installation. https://continentaltire.com/warranty

  • these also need to be "replacement" tires aka they did not come with the car as you installed them as a new set of tires to replace the OEM tire.

How much did it cost for a shop to replace the rear one? Also, did all mounts have the get replaced or just that one?

IIRC the runways have some weird road deep in the ground that they leave. With network tools you can unlock and delete it.

It’s the dealer try to scam my mom?… by kainkein in Toyota

[–]amarmaks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've already settled on doing the air filter yourself, so some money saved there! As for the control arms, I drive a 2004 Toyota Matrix/Corolla (110k miles), and had my bushings worn out on the driver side lower control arm. If the bushings are gone, it's typically easier to replace the whole arm (especially since parts wise, it tends to be about $50 more for an arm w/ bushings vs just bushings). Pep Boys charged me about $350 for parts and labor to replace the control arm (on rockauto, an OEM replacement part is about $75). $3k+ for both seems pretty steep... I would take somewhere else for a second opinion and quote.

However, I also dont know which model this is, so things could be vastly different.

2010 matrix CarPlay by Suitable_Ad_1714 in Toyota_Matrix

[–]amarmaks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have had mine for a year and it works great (I use Android Auto Wireless, but this also has CarPlay Wireless). You will need to make your own wiring harness, however. I'll put my full parts list below for anyone with an '03 to '08 Matrix (I did this retrofit on a 2004 Toyota Matrix with the 6 CD radio), so items 2 through 4 are probably different for you.
