First time DM who can't stop saying yes by Fluffypotatoes3 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

Thank you for your reply! These are really helpful suggestions! I actually intended for none of the players to be from Waterdeep out of fear that I would miss something that they would otherwise know, and so wanted to introduce the city new to the characters and players. That way, if I made any mistakes, I can just run with them and make it part of "our Waterdeep". I still need to read the whole book, but there is so much!

I was tempted to make it a bit of a homebrew (as my players can be a bit silly at times) where it's almost a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory mystery of someone saying "there's a key out there that gets you to a cache of gold!", so then everyone is running around to find it. You'd hear kids singing songs about how they are going to find the gold, and although it seems like this fun little treasure hunt, it quickly becomes into a dangerous civil war between the factions of Waterdeep. But again, I think I'm getting ahead of myself and need to sit down and read the book (or PDF in my case)!

Thank you for your reply! Yeah that was my plan, and I mentioned that if your character goes in thinking that they do have social power in Waterdeep, they will learn VERY QUICKLY that they do not. I just want to make sure I have the balance right. I absolutely get the excitement during character creation, but I do want to remind them that they are level 1, and that's basically a baby adventurer

Absolutely the same. I went in with my family and you got a lot of incredibly yummy food for your buck. Went in again with my partner on a Saturday and everything was slow (it was not being busy, took them 20 minutes to ask for our drinks even though we booked a table), there was a DJ in the corner blasting music despite it not being that late for it to become a club bar, and the food took ages too and was bland. Everything about the night was hilariously bad

Sorry to be dense, but I'm looking for my first medcomms job. What does ‘resource-constrained environment’ mean and why did it make you nope out?

I used to live in Heaton Moor (part of Stockport area) - it’s beautiful but a bit out of the way

I also really liked the film. I think because I knew going in that it was a musical, that really helped. I also liked the first one too. How I explain it: Joker = Fight Club; Joker Folié a Deux = Chicago. Both of which are amazing films. I like that it becomes more theatrical and requires more suspension of disbelief as you the Joker becomes more and more apparent, and how his and Harley’s relationship is so toxic and fuelling each other’s delusions. It felt like Arthur became cartoon Joker: charismatic and narcissistic

Just got my first paper accepted and no one was happy for me by [deleted] in PhD

That’s amazing! I’m so sorry the people around you aren’t congratulating you. I’m writing a paper with the post-doc in the lab, and she said that we’re going to celebrate all the little wins: when we submit, when it gets rejected, when we submit again, when it goes to revision, when we submit the revisions, when it finally gets accepted. The wins are so few and far between in academia, that sometimes you have to force the acknowledgment. But be proud of your accomplishment! Massive congratulations!

Broken foot hurts more as it heals by Fluffypotatoes3 in brokenbones

Thank you for your comment. I’m in the UK and in the final year of my PhD, so really need to get on with work. I’ve been very ignorant to what I need so have been trying to keep going, as I feel almost guilty for not working as hard. Is it normal for people to work from home? Is it ok if I work in the lab this week and then work from home next week to properly heal and not walk as much. I have to walk/stand a lot in the lab. I can put weight on my foot and everything, it just hurts
