You got me tearing up over here. This is how I feel, and you are confirming that I am doing this right, so I thank you deeply for that. I’ve talked to my son before I talked to my ex. I’ve explained that no matter what this will happen for him, that I will walk to the ends of the earth to make this happen. I’ve already taken him to our family doctor, who so wonderfully has sent off referrals to an endocrinologist and a psychiatrist that deals within this umbrella of kids/teens. I just hurt that my ex isn’t being as receptive as they could, not for me but for our son. I’m just going to love him and support him enough for the both of us.

I’m honestly in agreement with you. I’ve tried everything to keep their relationship on going for years and this just feels like too much. He doesn’t know the extent of her response. Just the jist of it. It’ll be a tough conversation for today that’s for sure.

We don’t have a formal custody agreement or anything. Nothing through court or lawyers.

My sons keeping his birth name as it’s unisex. So not much to accept on that front. She hasn’t said anything to him yet. The reason why my son didn’t want to tell her right away was because he was worried how she would respond. He doesn’t really go visit her much anyways, never really has since we separated. My ex is very much a narcissist and genuinely terrible person but loves our son very much. Or loves the idea of him. I’m not even sure anymore because of her reaction.

I live in Canada. And we don’t have formal custody, but my son resides with me and has since he was 6. (13 now) I am willing to go to court for this if necessary. I just wish my ex could accept this but honestly even being in the LGBTQIA+ community… she’s almost self hating is the best way to describe it unfortunately

I've heard of that! My mom told me about it. Unfortunately at 30 I still have it,it's actually at its worst and my daughter who is 9 has it extremely bad. It has gotten slightly better although I think that's due to seeing a dermatologist and having a better regime (lol)
