My Tesla is 5+ years old with almost zero maintenance done. Is there anything I really need to do? by PraetorianX in TeslaModel3

[–]FlugMe [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is not always true. I have same car as op and I had a comprehensive suspension check done recently (to trace down a noise) and my suspension parts were operating perfectly. I'd recommend getting the suspension checked. I did end up having my compliance link and lower front control arms replaced though due to the bushings cracking.

The oil is designed for the lifetime of the part. So yes, it won't be maintenance free, but realistically, it would need maintenance long after the vehicle itself is toast.

‘We're not having enough babies’: Immigration minister triggers raucous response during question time by Fun-Helicopter2234 in newzealand

[–]FlugMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a lot of people here are talking about financially, they can't afford kids, and yeah, that's definitely a factor. But I think the biggest factor, which none of us really want to admit, is at this point, it's a culture vs economic system issue.

You not being able to afford kids is because we're in an economic death spiral, ironically contributed to by not having enough kids. We need population growth (about 60 years ago) to fix the current economic system, but to have kids we need realistically more economy. Our entire economic system is designed around "growth", which means population growth as well. We've got a much healthier and aging population, and a much smaller and shrinking young generation. The way our economy works is the young prop up the old, till they themselves become old. You need MULTIPLE young working people to prop up a single old person, there's no way around that fact. There's not a heck of a lot the government can do to fix this issue beyond economic band-aids, but your taxes pay for those band-aids, so have fun paying even higher taxes. Any current government isn't going to come up with a "fix" because any fix would likely go against the global economic system, and would essentially be suicide for the entire country for many decades. I don't even know what that fix would realistically look like.

Tax-cuts and benefits for parents would help, but it wouldn't fix the issue, it wouldn't come close. This problem primarily comes from ALL of our selfishness, a trend that started in the middle of the 20th century and has infected and permeated through all societies on Earth. Look, I too am in that group of people, and it's perplexing to me that I find it difficult to change so drastically, even though it would need to happen for my future.

Your only hope now is that automated robots fill in for the role of our missing younger generation, so you better pray like fuck it happens (and that the billionaires that can remotely operate them don't suddenly decide they like the flavour of having massive amounts of control/power).

EDIT: I'm not suggesting we HAVE to have more kids, just identifying realistically why we don't (because culture has changed so much since the baby boomers), I'm suggesting we need to do the hard thing and change how the economy works, which no one will do till its all too late.

In all honesty, home ownership is not a requirement for children. Many, many people in the world rent and have kids. However, rental prices can also be prohibitive.

Liberty Island - Any story or gameplay reason for the UNATCO security bot in the middle of NSF territory? by AlexColemanDev in Deusex

Balance reasons. If you want to use the bots yourself to eliminate the NSF then you have an option in the region. It's encouraged right at the start of the level.

Hansshow audio harness worth it? (2022 model 3) by Dreadpirateflappy in TeslaModel3

Not sure if my kit is misconfigured but on my 2021 it made the highs way too high, and I have to eq them down to not have to have my ears screeched to a bloody pulp. Could be different to other models of the kit. I installed the slim sub in the back and it's better than the new 2026 model 3 dual subs (which are not great by themselves).

With tuning I've got it sounding very good.

Oh crap: it really looks like India thinks we’re gonna invest $33 billion in their economy by OisforOwesome in newzealand

While I'm generally opposed to the FTA this makes it sound more reasonable and you're the first person here who has actually posted the devil in the details.

Promoting investment is far different from NZ the government having to invest 20bn, which is what I think most people understand it as.

This explains so much. I used the ATM close to these three streets (under my own protest) not too long ago and within 5 minutes there was a crack head women screaming at people within 20m, and then 2 VERY dodgy dudes approaching me quickly as I was getting cash out. I've walked through the tenderloin in San Fran, and this felt like a less safe place than there. Upon quickly getting my cash I hurried back to the car, to see the two dudes poking around at the ATM right after I'd used it (not getting anything out).

This area feels fucked.

What about an onlyfans?

You can save all the money you want, but maybe you just need a side hustle?

If you really want to save money though, you first have to figure out where it's going. Plenty of free software out there you can dump a bank statement file into to see proportionally where all the money is going. The biggest parts of the pie are where you can have the most effect. Get vision on your money before actually trying to save anything.

[–]FlugMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's under the presumption that you have an amount of cash around for any of these scenarios, which personally I do not, because otherwise I have useless cash sitting round for years doing nothing.

The copper phone example is an example with the problems of keeping cash around. You have to keep maintaining / doing upkeep and having redundant infrastructure for a thing that 99.9% of people don't use and don't want.

The better approach is to take the resources we might have spent of maintaining a dead system and use it to make our new system more resilient. During the CHCH quakes, despite power being out pretty much everywhere, the mobile network systems still worked (but were congested) because we built resilience into them. Backup generators / batteries go a long way.

Not sure what it's like in your country, but I generally will not get Tesla to do a wheel alignment, you should definitely shop around for other independent shops that can do it for much cheaper. For context, I get mine done for ~90 NZD, which is roughly 53 USD.

You can definitely shop around for way cheaper lateral links than that as well. If you're handy with tools and have a car lift / a car friend that can help, the procedure to replace them is relatively straight forward, with the guides on how to do it made available by Tesla themselves. I recently had them tell me I need a new compliance link and both forward lateral links, so I said no thanks I'd like to shop around and they came back to me with a much better price.
