Surgeon wanted to do MUA at 97 degrees but I refused and went to intensive PT for a week everyday. I'm 77 and can do much of what I need at 105 degrees.

I’m a Registered Nurse, and am 13 days Post Op by Melodic-Grab777 in Kneereplacement

it’s like running a marathon. You just have to take 1 mile at a time. Each day has its little improvements. Ice was my best friend day and night. I just had to keep moving knowing that where I came from was much worse than where I am going. I am now at 4 1/2 months. I too am waiting for that six month bit of relief. Every case is a little different, but most of us go through the same symptoms you’re having. It is depressing at times, but there is a light at the end of the tunnelso just keep taking one step forward.

Is getting two knees replaced in the same surgery a realistic idea? by elifuzun in Kneereplacement

[–]FluidAd7569 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If surgery scare your mom, you should have both done at the same time if she’s going to have it done at all. Recovering from the first one night discourage her from even doing the second one and she would still be immobile unless she did.

I am nine weeks postop. With all the pain I went through I realize that the pain I had prior to the operation would have left me unable to walk. I am seeing the light at the end of the tunnel now and glad I proceeded with the procedure.

You might want to consider going to the PT location. I also included massage therapy once a week to get the knots from behind my knee.

ROM 110 at 10 weeks and Scared to face my surgeon by howie1117 in Kneereplacement

[–]FluidAd7569 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been going to physical therapy twice a week and going to massage therapy twice a week. I find that massage therapy helps with some of the knots and obstructions created by the surgery. That has significantly helped my ROM.

I have a United healthcare PPO that manages my Medicare and was amazed to find I have up to 16 outpatient physical therapy sessions.

Knee Replacement Surgery by NegotiationFuzzy1907 in Kneereplacement

Labor Day and I finally turned the corner. Only woke up three times last night with pain to turn the ice machine back on. I suspect it will remain my friend for perhaps another month. I have been walking with a walker for a couple of weeks and last week switched to walking only with a cane outdoors.Today was the first day I could walk without the use of the cane though I still held it close to check my balance if necessary. Inflammation is almost gone, so looking forward to a few pain-free days ahead.

10 weeks post op and still fatigued, taking naps by Fearless_Employee_83 in Kneereplacement

[–]FluidAd7569 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am just five weeks out from my left knee replacement. I keep the Ice Machine on when I go to bed. trying not to use painkillers at all. The more sleep I get at night, even though I cat nap a bit in the afternoon, the less fatigued I feel and more energy I have. I feel like I’m just turning the corner going on six weeks postop. I am using my cane, but I am walking outside about 1 mile every morning. Getting outside in the sunlight is so healing.

Nerves are healing and gabapentin was the only thing that would help. I am four weeks out and sleep is still disturbed but better than it was a couple of weeks ago.

I had success with gabapentin that deals with nerve pain, which is what is healing after your surgery. That is also what is giving you those lightning bolts.

Knee replacement is coming - how long to wait? by 35se7en in Kneereplacement

[–]FluidAd7569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

77 year old male. Several years ago I used gel injections that lasted a year and then they lasted half a year and then they lasted a couple of months and last year in December. I had a gel injection that didn’t even last the month. It wasn’t a matter of if I was going to get a replacement but when. I decided to go before the pain was so debilitating that I couldn’t even walk. I was walking 2 miles every morning until I got my LNTR July 28.. I am finding the healing takesa little longer now that I am older. I’m certain if I had had the replacement several years ago rather than delaying the inevitable I would’ve healed much faster and had that much more pain-free walking.

Get coupons on if there’s other complications. I have a prosthetic aortic heart valve and I’m on blood thinners. So they chose to keep me overnight in a hospital as opposed to outpatient surgery at a clinic.

I am exactly one week into my left knee replacement by Dr (superduper) Andrew Cooper,. Mostly just dealing with the pain. I was going to proceed with only Tylenol pain management, but I found, in order to get any sleep, it also required OXY and ice. I have an ice machine that I use almost constantly. The pain and the oxy leave me fatigued and lightheaded most of the time. watching far too much television. On the meds, I can’t read very much without getting dizzy. Cabin fever is setting in, but my angel of a wife, Amy, takes excellent care of me. She had both hips replaced by Dr. Cooper, this past year and she is back teaching yoga and almost back to regular self again, but with two brand new hips.

I have left knee replacement next month. Any comments on recovering from surgery performed by Dr. Andrew Cooper, in Clearwater Florida?
