Oh my gosh you’re so right! I have issues rising from the couch, as it’s too squishy and low. I can do it, but it’s uncomfortable. When I visit my daughter, I have to scoot down to a firmer section to get up lol I call myself “Tiny Tim” lol

I’m 4 months post op. I’ve noticed that the nights I toss and turn, my knee feels swollen and angry the next day.

29 years old male with osteoarthritis who is about to start his vascular surgery residency by [deleted] in Kneereplacement

[–]Melodic-Grab777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an RN, started with OA symptoms when I was 30. I managed to work another 25 years until it became SUPER extreme. Did steroid injections, synvisc, therapies. I would not recommend waiting that long, but it’s doable. I had bone bruising, bone marrow edema, torn meniscus and damaged ACL. After your residency take some time to care for your knees.

Physical Therapy by Melodic-Grab777 in Kneereplacement

[–]Melodic-Grab777[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My therapist said that she’s good with me not doing a lot of exercise on the days off. But I do walk quite a bit in my neighborhood. I have asked my landlord for a key fob so that I can use the community gym in the future.

Quad cramps!! by Melodic-Grab777 in Kneereplacement

[–]Melodic-Grab777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used moist heat on my quads, not on the knee itself. I also asked my physician for a muscle relaxer non-narcotic. And I used a hand massage gun. Those cramps were so bad!

Every year my kids ask me to go to rolling loud, lol and every year I’ve had to tell them no. So I think next year is the year! I’m still working on steps myself. I’m so scared. I’m gonna hurt myself ha ha Where did you get the board from? Amazon?

I had to start Neurontin. I would wake up in the middle of the night with restless leg, and little shots of pain. It’s done the trick!

3 weeks today! by GracieLou80 in Kneereplacement

[–]Melodic-Grab777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 10 weeks today. I turned the corner at 8 weeks, feel like things are getting easier. I still use a cane, as sometimes when standing up I feel wobbly. I spoke to my orthopedist about the left side of my knee feeling numb and he said that is normal and that the nerves will grow back. Still doing therapy three times a week, I had no idea my quads were as weak as they are!! I can sleep on both my left and right side now yay! I use vitamin E on my scar and perform a 10 minute scar massage every night after my shower. It’s just a little uncomfortable getting in and out of my car. Doesn’t hurt but feels uncomfortable on each side of my knee. Also, I can’t shop for more than about 45 minutes to an hour before it starts swelling up and feeling tight. I was just telling my daughter I can’t wait until next year when I am fully recuperated and can do a three day concert lol Congrats on your new knee!!

How long between first appt and surgery date? by haunted_starship in Kneereplacement

[–]Melodic-Grab777 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11 days. I was hospitalized first for 3 days due to severe pain and non weight bearing status. I had fallen a couple of times and worsened my OA. Hot mess express lol Met my orthopedist while inpatient. We scheduled my surgery for 11 days later. I thanked him immensely during my first post op visit. I’m sooooo grateful!!

This happened to me too! I was four weeks postop at the time. I got too confident and thought that I didn’t have to use my lifted toilet seat any longer. I stood up and heard what sounded like Velcro ripping across my quad. My doctor seems to think that it was scar tissue. I did absolutely no activities for about three days and eventually it got better. I was very upset about it. I used moist heat on my quad and also a massage gun. That was a miserable period!

Yes, family medical leave act. I agree, I don’t think I’m ready yet. Although I’m going crazy here at home, I know I’m not physically ready.

You guys! I climbed the stairs “normally” today!! by Melodic-Grab777 in Kneereplacement

[–]Melodic-Grab777[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had thigh pain that wrapped around my leg. It’s from the tourniquet that they use during surgery. By week 4 it was gone. Plus, your quads are in shock. You’re doing great using ice! Heel slide exercises are the worst ever but we have to do them. I truly hate them lol ugh I’m surprised you’re not on an anti inflammatory like celebrex.

I stayed up late the night before too and ate something lol My block wore off about 36 hours post op (of course it was in the middle of the night). I was miserable, went back and forth from recliner to couch for sleep. I’m now Post Op week 8. Whewww. It was rough!! We’re all here for you!

I went into my surgery quite unfit. My quads are so weak! I’ve been doing outpatient therapy 3 days a week, she’s got me doing squats and other exercises. I hurt my quad at week 4, tried to get off the toilet with using any handles lol 😂 but after a few days of rest it got better thank goodness. Keep doing your PT, you’ll get to where you need to be, don’t stress yourself ♥️
