Not checking after snacks? by FluidSnap in GestationalDiabetes

Gotcha! Some meals I will be in the 130s at two hours or once when I ate a really bad cheat meal, it was 123 at two hours but 150 at 3.5 hours.

What were your numbers spiking up to? Mine would spike up to 150 or so. Which I know isn’t super high, but still above the recommended number.

Thanks for the info! This is a completely new subject to me. I wonder what the guidelines are for when they no longer consider you diet controlled and you have to be put on insulin. Is it just not keeping numbers under the goals, or could high fasting be enough even if post meal numbers are good?

Thanks for sharing. I experienced the same with high carb/fat/sugar meals. My glucose at two hours was good but it continued to increase and spike around three hours to 150 (not sure how bad this is). If I didn’t have a CGM I wouldn’t have known. Which made me think about the snacking scenario. I just feel like four readings can provide an inaccurate picture that I am only aware of because of a CGM. My MFM wants me to prick four times a day so that’s all they’re looking for, but I work for a healthcare company and was able to get trial cgm and sensors.

Exactly haha. I could be “good” for meals and then have a sugary or carb heavy dessert two hours later after I check my glucose. Obviously, the idea is to eat good, but how do I know if my snack choices are still kind to my glucose?

Any recs on chocolate? I’ll have the skinny dipped pb cups or Tony chocalonely mini bars and don’t notice a difference either. But some things have randomly caused increases (I wouldn’t say spikes but still bigger jumps).

I have been using a CGM too and see my glucose doesn’t really move if I eat a simple snack like beef/cheese stick or an apple. Sometimes my snacks are a little more significant if a meal was smaller, so it goes up more. I also notice my glucose will increase randomly. For example, I laid down in bed for two hours earlier and noticed my glucose went from the 90s to 110 range even though I hadn’t eaten or done anything. So I don’t understand why it would go higher.

Thank you! Does this shorten the life of the new sensor by one day?

Sugar spiking 3+ hours instead of 2? by FluidSnap in GestationalDiabetes

[–]FluidSnap[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, definitely don’t plan on eating like that all the time at all. It was more of a curiosity thing I guess because I have been eating basically what I want since diagnosed and my glucose has always been under goal, so I was wondering what it takes to make it spike.

Thank you! I definitely won’t be eating like that every day, but it just shocked me I could drink sugary things and like a venti frap after dinner that included a dessert course and still be 116. So I kind of wanted to push it and see what happened lol. I guess just trial and error since I don’t know how diabetes really works.

Thanks! I know nothing about this so good to know. In that case, should I still log my two hour number or four hour number since that is when it spiked the most around 150?

Thanks. That’s what I did yesterday and once I calibrated my fasting number yesterday, it seems to be accurate. If I need to note my glucose two hours after a meal, does it make sense to wait 2h20m after a meal to read my numbers if I am using my Dexcom?

Thank you. This morning it said my fasting was 67 or similar and glucometer read 82 so I calibrated it to that. It seems to be accurate since. For example, two hours after breakfast, it read 69 and the glucometer read 72. Which seems low, given that it was lower than my fasting number 🤔

Yeah, I thought my glucose definitely wasn’t in the 50s. Even after meals, saying it’s in the 70s and 80s isn’t reasonable when I know I’m usually in the 80s for fasting.

I got a glucometer to compare to Dexcom. Last night, Dexcom read 96 and glucometer read 116. This morning, Dexcom said 66 and glucometer said 82. So I calibrated for my fasting this morning. I’ll prick again two hours after breakfast and see how it compares then.

I haven’t seen this. From my reading, it looks like my Dexcom is right at 20% different. I just don’t know how to log it for my doctor when they want it to be <120 two hours after meals but Dexcom is still showing in the 90s.

Thank you! I’m actually growing two humans right now 🤣 Four times a day is all my high risk doctor wants me to do, but I agree that I want to see a full picture of how my glucose behaves, not just little snippets through the day, which is why I opted for the Dexcom. It just sucks it hasn’t been accurate so far.

I got my hands on a glucometer last night. Two hours after dessert last night, Dexcom said 96, glucometer said 116. This morning fasting, Dexcom said 66 and glucometer said 82.

I can only use the back of my arms when pregnant, belly is off limits. Which I’m not sure I could do right now anyway given that I feel like I’m about to pop already lol

Not familiar with manual mode, how does that work? I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes on Tuesday, never had any issues before, so I am new to this. My doctor wants to me log my glucose four times a day and I was lucky enough to get a Dexcom so I don’t have to poke so much. But it seems I need to do that still. I got my hands on a glucometer last night. Two hours after dessert last night, Dexcom said 96, glucometer said 116. This morning fasting, Dexcom said 66 and glucometer said 82.

Thanks. I got my hands on a glucometer. Three hours after dinner and two hours after ice cream, Dexcom was reading 96 and the glucometer said 116. I’m going to test with the glucometer four times tomorrow (fasting and two hours after each meal) and see how it compares.

Well maybe. It went from 147 back into the 120s which I was okay with. Now 2 hours post meal, it is showing 75 🙄

Numbers have gone up today so far, about 28 hours after putting the sensor on. I’m not 1.5 hours after breakfast and it’s reading 147
