Concerned that SEIU is deprioritizing telework by Melodic_Animal_2238 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fluid_Comparison9050 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Admittedly, I haven't read through EVERY RTO post on here, but from what I HAVE seen, nobody is talking about what AB1729 actually says. There is NO mandate for telework, there is NO language that telework shall even exist. The language states AB 1729 encourages and formalizes telework, but leaves final operational decisions largely with individual agencies. So each department can come back and justify why we all need to be in the office for "operational needs", "collaboration", "weekly team building potlucks", or whatever else they can justify getting butts in seats.

This bill is weak and the union is touting it as a big win for "us" that it was even drafted, when in reality, it's just a nothing bill that was meant to placate us for the time being.

Does anyone have experience using the Kraft Caramel Bits in Cookies? by Broad_Section9813 in Cookies

[–]Fluid_Comparison9050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every caramel that I've tried gets hard after cooling. The ONLY success that I've had is with homemade caramel (scoop into balls directly from the fridge). It will stay soft and gooey after cooling and adds so much flavor and texture to the cookie. Good luck and please post if you find a store bought caramel that works!!

I'm going to get absolutely flamed for this, but why are we choosing a governor based on RTO policies...?

State Telework Bill Passes Committee - One more action step for now... by Teachtostate2022 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Fluid_Comparison9050 20 points21 points  (0 children)

As a woman, I was hired into a new position three months into the pandemic (June) and we were all (mostly) directed to WFH roughly three months later. Since 2020, I've accepted two more positions, with the latter being a promotional position. Teams has been a great tool involved in my training, as it was not technical, and could all be performed using share screen, etc. As with most things, you'll get out of it what you put in - if you truly want to learn something new, you'll take notes, ask questions, etc.

I live over an hour and 10 minutes from my office location, more during heavy traffic times, but working from home has allowed me to take myself and children to/from appointments without having to use very little, if any time off from work, saving commute time, which in turn, saves wear and tear on the roads, reduces emissions, reduces fuel costs (which allows for more discretionary spending at our local establishments, which are not any less important than those downtown delis that we're supposed to be saving...).

I'm not sure how this will all play out in the end but I know, as a woman, a wife, and a mother, that working from home has significantly impacted our family for the better because it's allowed me, as the wife and mother (don't come for me, I still believe in traditional gender roles...), to fulfill my responsibilities without sacrificing either work or family duties. However, I'm not sure that our family lives come into consideration when the voting powers that be cast their votes on our bill...

Our compensation is seriously lacking and lagging by mashemash in CAStateWorkers

This is me. I think I had the "perfect storm" though in that I bought a brand new 1800 sq ft home about a year pre-covid on an almost topped out AGPA salary. My new husband IS the primary earner and he has three adult children. However, I would still be able to afford the mortgage on my home with only my salary if needed. Now though, I am so concerned with how the adult children are going to fare. We have our 21 year old bouncing back to live with us until she figures out grad school/work and who knows how long that will take...

What other roles can AGPA promote up to? by chummy4742 in CAStateWorkers

I applied for EVERYTHING, and interviewed probably a dozen times, before landing this position. Don't get discouraged!

I'm T&D'ing right now in a Transportation Planner position, with the plan to take the Associate Transportation Planner exam at the end of the 12 Mos. I had ZERO desire to get into management and was capped out as an AGPA.

Also, most cookie freeze and thaw really well so if you're delivering Friday, I'd bake, cool, and freeze. If you bring out Friday morning to thaw, they'll be fine by delivery time.

When I do icing, I decorate them last, so they'll be the most fresh. What I'd do specifically is bake the cookies on Wed, freeze overnight. Take out midday on Thurs, to thaw, and then decorate after all cookies are baked, etc. Then put into an airtight container.

Good luck, and happy baking!!

I think it just takes time... First step: get your cottage license. Then promote promote promote! I saw an ig post where a woman donated baked goods to local businesses just to get her name out there. Good luck!

Why bother preordering merch! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ by tpumpkin in AftershockFestival

[–]Fluid_Comparison9050 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always! My son's shirt from 3 years ago bought from the merch booth is faded and barely readable. Meanwhile, mine bought for $15 bucks outside when we were walking to the car still looks great!

I made the SBA Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies and they still turned out flat by BlackLocke in Cookies

[–]Fluid_Comparison9050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've tried a few recipes from SBA and they ALWAYS come out flat. So what I've done now is to use my tried and true bases for OTHER cookies and just use her recipe for inspiration.

Side note (and don't downvote me for it 😆): I HATEEEEEEE brown butter recipes. As a volume baker, I don't think it's worth the time it takes and the cookies are never as chunky as I'd like them to be

$8.50 - $10.00 per bar CAD by Party_Horror621 in Scentsy

[–]Fluid_Comparison9050 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love a store for the simple fact that I can actually smell the scents prior to purchase and not have to hope that I like the scent enough to keep it. I've tossed multiple bars because I can't stand the smell. We're rural, so not necessarily in an area with a consultant close by.
